  1. Don't drink the kool-aid...
  2. Guess they're stockin' up for the warmer temps ahead.
  3. Just wanted to throw it out there that Blue will be opening with a four foot base. see www.skibluemt.com for more details.
  4. I'm hoping that there will be NO jumps. Just setup a nice rail garden type run with a few beginner, intermediate, and expert rail setups. Jumps on Come Around are plain and simple just a bad idea. Saw soooo many folks get hurt by maching into jumps on Come Around last year and gapping over the landing to flat. Maybe even setup a small hiking section with two rails side by side on the wider part where its real flat. We'll see...
  5. What!?!? bummer....
  6. Nice!
  7. General accuweather headline says 1-3 for most of the area, daily Philly report says 1-2 for Wednesday. Hopefully it hits at the right time and really messes school up. I need something to throw a wrench in the spokes of this machine.
  8. Definitely cheating...

We all have our opinions about things and thats fine as long as you back them up. I'm mostly just playing devil's advocate with you because I also feel like I know a good amount about parks and resorts. Basically I feel that people who come onto public forums to openly flame do a disservice to whatever their argument (as well as park riders as a whole) is because it takes five positive comments to de-escalate a negative comment. Anyone who has worked in any type of customer service oriented industry will tell you that positive comments are often much harder to come by. This leads to a sentiment among management at some places along the lines of "when all we hear is negative feedback from people who whine, complain, and are in general just immature; why would we want to invest in that?" I've heard almost that exact thing directly from management at a couple local mountains. Yes, todays kids are tomorrows customers, but I think everyone would be surprised what a little more maturity would get us around here. You can call me immature or lame for trying to make a point with you by going back and forth, but you keep coming back...
  10. Ya I know I was only playin'. It is also kinda difficult right now because they have the connector at the top roped off.
  11. Thats cool man its mad easy to get lost at Boulder.
  12. The girl on the posters is wearing them...
  13. Good laugh... Well keep in touch. Its tough for me to try to get anyone in that hasn't taken the Instructor Training Course, because this is kinda where they show you all the operations policies at Blue and whatnot.
  14. Due to it being a seasonal position with season pass and equipment discount benefits, the pay is pretty much minimum wage for someone who would be doing it their first year. PM me for more info on this though... Also, I should mention that if you are seriously interested in becoming a coach, you would need to complete the Instructor Training Course this coming weekend at Blue, which is $50.00. It is two days of instruction that many say really improve their riding, and when you look at it this way it is pretty much the cheapest lesson from PSIA/AASI instructors you can get. I did it almost seven years ago and it really improved my skiing.
  15. Very solid riding outside of the park is a must. It also helps if you've spent a lot of time in and around the park and are comfortable doing basic maneuvers like sliding rails, smaller spins, and small jibs in general. You don't need to be Shawn White or Tanner Hall, but being comfortable with the basics really helps. If you're what one might call "sick" in the park, that certainly doesn't hurt. Also, one must be very good at analyzing riding and relating that to athletes. Much of what we do involves helping give people the skills to do a certain trick, and then giving them the little push they need to nail that trick.

Maybe I was a little harsh, but I just gotta hate on people who don't back stuff up. Don't say/claim a bunch of stuff and then give up when people call you out on it. If you want to take a stance on an issue, then be prepared to defend it, don't just puss out when stuff hits the fan. Besides, it makes my night more interesting if you don't... I'm not a kid or a ski dad, but I do enjoy a good conversation now and then, even if the words used make it sound like an argument. BTW, what position ARE you coming from?
  17. We never know until the day of... Makes it kind of hard to plan but there has been a lot of interest this year from friends of people currently in the program, children of instructors up at Blue, and of course the racers who piss off the race coaches so much that they give them to me.
  18. Hey guys and girls, There is a chance I'll be hiring one or two more coaches for the Freeride programs at Blue Mountain. Below is a short description of the programs: "This program is designed for advanced riders/skiers ages 8 and up. All participants should be comfortable on every trail on the mountain, as well as capable of riding a chair lift without an adult and be able to follow directions in their groups. Participants will be divided into small groups depending on their age and ability. The emphasis will be on strengthening existing skills, practicing boardercross/skiercross technique and time will be spent improving freestyle skills in the half pipe and terrain park. {Jumping, spins, grabs and riding rails}. For those athletes who are ready, we will focus on preparing for some of the local and regional competitions." The focus of the program is coaching athletes on their way to becoming better park and all mountain riders, and we meet every weekend from December 15th thru February 17th. This means Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9am to 1pm. If you're interested please PM me and I can give you some more information and perhaps schedule an interview for this coming weekend. Thanks. -Trevor

A lot of this is opinion that doesn't really substantiate your claim. For instance, your point about the park people vs. weekenders is totally off in the context you deliver it. Do you have numbers to back up the "fairly decent amount" of park riders outnumbering weekenders? I didn't think so... Maybe your perception is skewed because you spend the majority of your time in the park, so that is all you know... I can see how if all the people around you are of one type, then you might think that everyone there is of that same type. I can understand if you've been to Bear Creek and haven't seen the restaurant, hotel, conference center, and spa. It's easy to miss. They are certainly building these things for the park riders, as they outnumber the weekenders who businesses should ignore because as you argue there isn't as much money to be made on them. Instead of talking so much sh*t and polluting this thread with your nonsense arguments, perhaps you might send Bear Creek an e-mail that says something along the lines of "Hey I'm stoked to see you guys are doing the movie premiers this year. I was a little disappointed that the rail jam wasn't able to happen, but I hope you are able to do one next year. As long as it means you are focusing 100% of your efforts on opening then I'll gladly let it slide." Maybe even add something about how if they need any help you'd be glad to do it if it will make an early season railjam a greater possibility.
  20. Got the wake-up call from Justo at approx. 7:50am. Hit the turnpike after a shower, banana, and glass of OJ. Traffic was light and was able to make decent time from Abington to the Valley. Stopped at Wawa on Schoenersville and scored a hoagie, chips, and sausage egg and cheese. Got to Boulder around 11am. First day on the new Line Invaders. I'm soooooooo used to my Troublemakers cuz I've been on them for like two years, so these new boards are gonna take some getting used to. They have a lot of potential, but with grippy edges and hard snow I didn't feel like gettin' too zesty. The edges are gonna get some severe lovin' with the file tomorrow. That being said, they ski surprisingly well for how floppy they are. I was able to lay over some really nice turns on Big Boulder which we lapped a few times. Story of the day was COLD. It was f*ckin' cold. Being used to the past few weeks of relatively balmy temps and soft snow at Boulder's Freedom Park, today was a big wakeup call to what Pennsylvania is all about. Welcome home for real... We filmed for a little bit but all the footage sucks because I was freezing and wearing huge gloves that kept pressing random buttons. Whatever... All in all a real fun day though. Skiing with KT and Justo is the same old, but today we got to ride with Nick and a kid named Brian from Sno. Nick was about to kill some switch lip 270's onto the downbox, but it was late in the day and he wasn't able to stick em. Huge props for goin' for it nonetheless and they're gonna look ill when he gets em dialed. Good clean fun. Blue Mountain Friday...
  21. How did I miss this extraordinary post! The best...
  22. Boulder's crazy sub-climate is what gives them the best advantage. Blue and CB really can't get open before they get a week of solid temps, where Boulder only needs a couple days. Those places just aren't able to blow when Boulder often is due to temps. Its a lot like the difference between Blue and Bear Creek. The difference 20-30 miles makes is amazing. I think the key is just a massive earthmoving effort that increases Boulder in size by 800 feet to become the new tallest area in PA.
  23. Decent halfpipes are works of art. So much different that just pushing dirt around or mowing grass. If you mess up dirt you can just push it back and start again. If you mess up a pipe to a certain point you basically have to fill it in and start over, and snow is waaaayyyyy harder to work with.
  24. Rumor on tech Web sites is that Youtube is actually increasing the resolution quality of videos and will soon start accepting larger, higher res. files. This comes at the perfect time with the news about Brightcove.
