Not really disagreeing with you at all. I am of the persuasion that not everything needs to be an argument. Basically just putting an example out there of a mountain whose customer base is basically park rats and really has to be due to their location. The people who are spending the money on hotels, rentals, restaurants and the like are not going to go to a place 40 minutes from Denver, they'll be at Vail or Aspen. This mountain seeks to attract the kids from Denver who might have other wise been driving every weekend to the bigger resorts. They have created a culture and I bet there are a lot of people who would rather just hang out there when they ride if it isn't dumping. Yes I did see the "we include everyone" type notes on the site, but through press I have read and seen and just the vibe of the Web site, it is pretty obvious what the goals of Echo are and who they intend to market to. I don't agree or disagree with your opinion that an all park mountain could not be successful, I think it is something that might be tried, and truely depends upon what the definition of "all park" is.

Click here Met with a ton of praise after their first season last year, not to mention just about more "free" press than I saw any other mountain get outside of the big corporate players like Whistler and Hood, Echo Mountain is far from dead. No they don't have a 10 or 20 year record of successful business yet, but everything I saw or heard about the mountain was positive. No they are not ALL park, and I do agree to a point that an all park mountain is a very difficult proposition, but their main focus is park and the park culture. Being thirty some miles from a major metropolitan area it does make sense for them to offer maybe a bunny hill and tow rope or something just for newbies to do a new activity on a Friday night or Saturday, but I believe that is the extent to which their family or newbie type programs go. With an all park Big Boulder, there still would be lessons given to families and first timers, but the vibe of the mountain would be the all park vibe. I do think that this vibe is a marketable and profitable entity now, and I think that Echo and Boulder are pioneers of something that we're going to see a lot more of in the next ten years. There are hills all over the country that need to do something that sets them apart from either another hill just like them, or a much larger and better funded neighbor. Everything is able to be argued, and people still try to debate the permanence, profitability, liability, etc... of terrain parks and how much space they take up. However, with kids half my age that have way more skill and natural talent than I'll ever have, we should get used to it and either be a part of it or sit back and enjoy the show.

Peak Resorts speaks with Alpine Zone

Consider this your public warning with the liberal usage of the f-bomb on your part as of late. We've had the f-bomb discussion before, and though this is a "family" friendly Web site have decided that it is ok in certain contexts. However, examples like the one above are just unnecessary and have been occurring on a regular basis. I post this so people will know where you've gone when one of us has to ban you for a few days. Cheers! -

some things will never change... In reference to the comment about industry folks not wanting to post on boards such as this one, I think it is a pretty valid point. People are much more comfortable shelling out the criticism from the safety of of their online identity rather than taking the time to put together a well constructed letter that includes name and contact info so as to give the representative a chance to respond. However, the respectul and proper thing to do is usually the hardest/most time consuming, therefore is the least popular. I think a lot of people come to these boards because they want to feel like their opinion of "that rail/snowmaking/comp sucked" will be respected by others like them. In actuality, it really does nothing except give you a medium through which to vent in the immediate aftermath of your good/bad experience, which in the long run only has a negative effect such as a company or mountain rep no longer posting due to the barrage of immature flaming. If more people took 10 minutes to write respectful posts and help censor each other we'd probably see the board grow into a forum of much more credible information. -
Who knows??? Stuff changes every year though ehh? Hopin' to see some good movin' and shakin' in the terrain park.
-
Can't wait. Gonna be some good changes this year.
-
NOTHING!!! Believe dat! Ohhhhhhh Canada. Can't wait to do it again next year!!! The trip that is, not Dan's chopper ride...
-
Shhhhhhhhh... You're loud mouth is gonna get you and I in trouble son!
-
You guys are both idiots... Bruises are badges of honor/war wounds/some type of weird ammo against western skiers... Its no surprise you both are joksters... Back to the party! PS. I'm tryin' to handbuild a jump this year for sure....

Ya sounds like the "owner/seller" really knows his stuff about skis. "bootclips"!?!??!?!?! Thats gotta be one of the better terms for bindings I've heard lately. Bettin' them jawns is stolen.
-
And they've gotta be fairly well off to boot. Sounds like a win win situation for the skiing women of the world... Like that stopped you?

niiiiice. Plans to go are in the works.

Legit and Camelback do not fit in the same sentence. Also, the new trail is going to be left as is. They will blow a dusting of snow on it now and then, and will use it to write poachers tickets to increase mountain revenue.
-
I think you're gonna need to be able to do some damn quick switchups. Fifteen feet may seem a little long when you're sitting at your computer, but you'll hit that rail once and wish it was twice as long. In my opinion if you're building a short feature like that you'll get more out of a simpler design like a double coping flat rail.

Yaaaaa!!! Got any pics to post up of said cliff?
-
Jeff you are no longer allowed to speak of your "injury" cuz Dan has you whipped now. Not that he didn't before, but now he definitely does... That is all.

Thats about 30 minutes from my parents new place... Maybe I'll roll by for that.

Congrats Stevo!! You're May's member of the month for finding and posting this extraordinary display of athleticism.

Take a look at some skis currently being marketed as park specific and get back to us on that. I regularly ski a 92mm waist ski at Blue and ski with guys on Seth Pistols at 90mm and 98mm. Someone will buy your ski, but only if the price is very right.
-
This thread should be closed, but to add something constructive to it... I reached Ian, and he said that there will be features for all ability levels to hit at the May Day event. I know this is of no concern to the pros of www.paskiandride.com, but I thought a few people might like to know in case they were worried that it would be all super technical setups. cheers, -Trev

Seriously, this could have gone down in history and Tretiak could have been forever immortalized for donating his Jeep. Now hes up $300 bux. Example: I threw forty glass bottles at my wall with a buddy last Thursday night. It was incredibly fun, incredibly destructive, and an incredible pain in the ass to clean up. However, I know I'll remember it for a long time and I'll probably do it again tomorrow night cuz I have a final Friday and I see that as the best way to study. Jumping Tretiaks Jeep could be my last Thursday night on a scale of epic proportions... Go down in history Tretiak, donate that kit to a noteworthy cause!!!

Nice TR!

If people can get Tretiak to launch it off something I will personally organize the first ever PASR kegger, which will culminate with the fiery destruction of Tretiaks airborne Jeep. Top Gear hit cars with missiles mid-air... Can we do something cooler?
