Ski patrol was busy today. One lifeflight as of now for a 19 year old first timer who went off the biggest hit in the lower park and did a perfect half flip and landed on his head. No helmet, broke his neck, ahhhh the good times up at Blue. I'll put some pics up later. I think I'm gonna go home now.

You start drinkin' early tonight Boyer? I would love a freeride park closer than Mt. Creek. There is ENORMOUS potential in this. I even know a shop that would be a huge sponsor. Just PLEASE don't build a waterpark. Keep your mountain outdoor sports oriented...

This would make sense if Big Boulder had the same hours as Jack Frost, however, Big Boulder doesn't open till three. On Tuesday I was with a little crew who rode Frost for a couple hours in the morn and then went to Boulder in the afternoon, and all our runs at Frost were down the parks. People must do this on a regular basis, because there are signs at the Wawa between Frost and Boulder that say "No ski boots please."

If anyone needs an example of a well thought out and well written post, please refer to the above. Great post sgt.

You wouldn't have a chance in hell of making the landing. You'd basically compress on the flat, blow up, most likely injure yourself pretty badly, and the joke would be on you. Congrats Nips! Good to see you gettin' some more exposure. Blow it up son!

Yo peep Accuweathers headlines right now on www.accuweather.com. Its pretty much the wackest attempt at forecasting that I've ever seen. That site has gone from one that I used to trust on a regular basic, to one that I trust about as much as a British tabloid. They are sayin snow all over the place, and have the most generalized graphics I've ever seen them put up. Place is goin' down the effin' gutter.

Go for some of the new Line Invaders. The ones with the green swirly type topsheet are this years, and the ones with the pink and blackish topsheet are last years. You don't want last years cuz they had a bunch of problems with the skis coming apart, but everything is said to be fixed on them this year, and I actually think they year would be one of the better years to buy them because they will probably overbuild them after all of the problems they had last year to attempt to rebuild their rep. You can find them for as cheap as $250 brand new, and they are built real strong for rails and boxes, and have "butter zones," which makes them ideal for doin presses and whatnot. Do some research on em, you'll probably like em.

yes. if you went out and got soaked and skied those crapass conditions then feel free to put down two days. Should I get three since I skied all morning at Blue too?

Yo I got a Smith Holt this season. Thing is sick. Look through the Gear Forum, I think I wrote up a little review of it after the first night I wore it. I'm definitely liking it more and more with each day. I'm right in between the fit of the Giro smalls and mediums, and the Smith small fits perfectly. Comfy and warm helmet. I got the white one, and dirt and scratches show up kinda easy but who gives a .....

Nice pics Bill. Good meetin' you man. -
Title is pretty self explanitory. I think there may be a difference between boarders and skiers here. On smaller tables (10ft to like 25ft), I like a pretty poppy/vert lip. On step downs, I pretty much always prefer a long flat lip that has a small pop at the end to it. Soo much easier to take these with a ton of speed and carve into your spin, one of my favorite ways to hit jumps. Step downs with super poppy/vert lips are a huge no no. I feel like this applies to all stepdowns no matter what length. Everyone keep adding to it. I would keep the list goin' but I need to get some other stuff done right now. Remember to back up why you like it a certain way so people can understand it.

Aight we need to get this debate goin. I think I'll start a new thread for it.

Thanks guys. Who knows? Maybe we'll start gettin' the PA scene some exposure and respect.

Sweet! Good luck on that interview, I have a ton of family friends that are Microsoft junkies. I spent a lot of time at Alpental when my parents didn't feel like driving up to Baker. From Seattle's eastside/Redmond, you'll be able to get to Alpental in 45 minutes to an hour. If you can wake up early, Baker is definitely worth the drive to ride it at least once, and if you can make it to Alpental in the morning on Sunday then hit that up too. I've been getting phone calls from friends telling me that both places are goin' off. Crystal is also a great choice, but like Baker it is around an hour and a half or two hours outside of Seattle. So my advice if you're not feelin the 2 hourish drive up to Baker is to go to Alpental. They have great inbounds steeps, and if you hook up with any locals they can show you some of the backcountry. Hopefully I don't need to tell you to not try to explore the BC on your own. Almost every week in the Seattle Times there are stories about missing people in the Cascades. Have an awesome time!!! Take some pics and post a trip report when you get back and make me miss home!

Great post about staffing Bill. That is one of the biggest problems as I've seen with fairness in judging competitions. There just don't seem to be a ton of people who are in the scene that are doing the judging, it seems to be people who aren't quite as "in touch" in a way with what the latest tricks and combinations might be. I was tempted to attend the USASA clinic at Camelback early this season, but between PSIA and other organizations, new gear to replace broken stuff, and other expenses, I have to watch where money goes, and USASA just didn't seem worth it. Maybe this year will change my mind and I will pursue coaching and or judging certifications next year or later this season. However, your "independantly wealthy" comment kind of runs true with this too, as fees for both USASA and PSIA are ever growing, and our pay scales are not. I could buy a pair of skis with the money I would need to even start earning my PSIA Level II. Welcome to the site! Please post often and let us know whats going on with the USASA side of things.

One only needed to hike up to the first jump and see the multiple bomb holes and craters and hear some kids slap to realize that maybe the jump wasn't quite setup correctly. I saw skiers and boarders both throwing some of the sickest tricks I've seen this year off the bottom hit, and on the top hit flailing straight airs and spread eagles with a loudly yelled "OH SHIT!" seemed to be the trick of the day. I'll reply to this thread more after I ski with some things that I've noticed about newschool skiing and comps.

The weather for Palmerton is usually a little closer to what conditions at Blue are like since it is on the same side of the mountain. The weather on that other side can sometimes be totally different.

Haha they had a slideshow of the Redbull Illume photos before they presented the awards, and everytime a pic of that rail came up people would shout out "See!!! Its still crooked!!!," because soooo many people were having trouble clearing it. The one pic that shadows took right down the rail brought quite a few rowdy yells oabout the botched setup. Meanwhile management is off to the side shaking their heads and glaring at people. Good shizzz. Hopefully I'll get my pics up sometime tonight.

Ya that was nice the first day I was up there when the gapers were not yet out for the season. Every visit since people have been gettin' their one or two feet of air off of every part of the lip, and most seem to think the closer they jump to the rail the more dangerous/extreme the move is. Snow quality has a bit to do with how easy it is to keep the features up too. They normally give everything a fresh coating when they can, and the snow they blow is packable and movable without heavy machinery. Beatin' a dead horse man. It's what we've been given. Hopefully it does something...

Thanks man, but I know what "critiquing"/constructive criticism is when I see it, and I know it doesn't include "Your..........really sucked." At least he is doing something in general... Keep it lite. -

Wow... Nick, Did someone abuse you as a child? This has not the first time you have unnecessarily been a huge ass to someone. Tryin' to make enemies? I was up at Boulder today and it was a great time. I participated in the Illume Photography Workshop and learned soooo much about cameras and how to set them up and what makes a great shot etc... I even walked away with some cool stuff. The riding was definitely good, but I think the lack of a season around here is definitely hurting people, because not too many people were throwing the stuff that they normally do. Revival won the team, and I'm not positive who won the open. -
Just more area for people to jump off the sides. We're kinda hopin' the steps solve this problem.

From what I know its only open for the comp in the morning and early afternoon. Its probably going to be a madhouse up there tomorrow. I went up tonight for the first part of the Redbull Illume Workshop and it was sweet. They lent us Nikon 200D cameras that we get to use to shoot the comp. I have no idea how to even go about trying to use this thing, it is such a step up from the 35mm SLR or Pentax digital point and shoot that I'm used to shooting with. I've been playing with it a good majority of the night, and doubt I have even scratched 5% of the camera's capabilities. We got out a little late tonight so I wasn't able to go out on the town and play with the camera at all. I left the damn manual for the thing on the floor of the lodge . Hopefully I can learn a little more about it tomorrow so I won't have to shoot on auto all day.
