  1. Wow Sunday will be busy for me... What time is the Bear Creek premiere?
  2. C'mon guys. It may not be the car of your dreams but respect that hes tryin to sell it.
  3. You're an employee Rob.... Get on that man. Start e-mailing blue, let them know your an employee and you think you could do a better job.
  4. Everyone has and will continue to. This thread has many obvious examples of personal attacks using different techniques. Some are subtle, others are more direct. Realize that sometimes the more subtle attacks are actually worse than the more direct, yet they are let go. Group cry... Then lets play nice shant we?
  5. Thin ice Papa...
  6. The increasingly used argument that many freestylers never really learned to ski is a very valid one. It something I've said myself many times. The coaches at Blue are at least PSIA Level 1 instructors, so are first and foremost skiers. I don't know how many other mountains require this, but I think its a good way to make sure that if something needs to be corrected from a skiing standpoint, we know how to spot it and correct it. Is that to say that we are gonna be harpin on these kids and nailing them every time they come out of posture, hell no. Just run a demo if its necessary and remind them every so often and you can usually coax someone into correcting themselves without them realizing it. These freeride programs are a great second option because kids are still getting many of the fundamentals and skiing instruction type pointers from well qualified instructors, but since it is in a freeride format they have a lot more fun than they were having in the race program. Note: I'm not saying that racing isn't fun, just that people wanna do different things and I think its great that kids have another option.
  7. I've been talking to parents, instructors, other coaches, and people deep into the freeride community for a while now trying to see what the best way to coach the freeride program is. We've talked about making a program that is very structured, where we would spend alot of time on gates or doing drills and things of that nature. The kids like to call them "race team things." When I talked to parents, since they are the ones paying for the program, I asked if we should start doing more gates and work more on skiing fundamentals along with the freeride aspect. The answer I have gotten so far from the people that have been involved with the program is an overwhelming "NO!" We heard time and time again last year that kids went home more excited about skiing than they ever were while racing (which felt to them like one long boring lesson), and that they couldn't wait to come out again next weekend. I do want to do more of that stuff this year, but am definitely going to find ways to make it fun. Maybe the fastest or most improved skiing switch through the gates gets a company t-shirt from a sponsor, which brings me to my next point. The kids love to have the same clothes that they see us wearing when we ski, and in a way we are coaching them in that too. Positive or negative influence? You decide, but I know I was always trying to wear the clothes that the big kids were wearing when I grew up. Are there kids still having fun on the race team? Hell ya! I've always loved to go fast and would've loved to race as a kid, but it just wasn't something my parents gave me the option of doing or I didn't beg enough. However, there are a few faces who watch us as we go past, and they have openly said that they would switch in a heartbeat if their dad or mom would let them. Some kids wanna race, some kids wanna jump and ski backwards. We don't force any of our athletes to compete, but we encourage them to. Not only is it a great way to get some experience under pressure, but ya might win something too!
  8. Nah. I saw last years CR Labs on there in a 180 though. I forget how much they were going for. Lowest price I've seen on the Dumonts is $499. Make an offer on mine if you're interested.
  9. You got any experience in the newschool movement outside of your observations? Coaching a freeride team, helping run comps, working in the park, etc...
  10. Its honestly closer to fact than you might think Ski. Right now unless they're full on sponsored, most kids do think about the amount of stuff that is given as prizes in comps and base where they go upon that. You can be sure that alot of people will show up if you have a 5,000 dollar purse and 1,000 bux as your first prize. The way I see people get sponsored in skiing is mostly through media, which you can easily get a ton of at any comp. USASA venues are actually the hardest to film at because they keep them so tightly run. People sending promo media to companies is the majority of who gets sponsorships of the people that don't follow the race way and go to summercamp and train all year. It is much more rare to have someone that gets a hookup through firsthand recognition of their talet. I don't know a ton about racing culture, and maybe you'll have some better insight on thist, but the impression that I'm under is that most racers are sponsored through firsthand recognition on the slopes and standings in nationwide rankings. Newschooling kids wanna do their best, but in this day its their best so long as there is immediate gratitude or some guaranteed hookup. I haven't met a ton of kids who want to participate in a structured system like USASA, especially if they aren't hookin it up with all kinds of free gear, when their buddies who are doing local and company run jams are walking around with the latest gear that they won. I definitely see the benefit in having a structured system for ranking would have, like racing has, but right now it just doesn't seem to be the way that things are going from my standpoint.
  11. The Oakley High Intensity Blue or Smith Sensor Mirror are hands down the best night riding lenses on the market that I've demoed. You could argue with that opinion but you'd likely be wrong unless you prefer clear, which in that case I completely understand.
  12. Underrated just because they're so big. Very progressive as far as I'm concerned...
  13. Nice. Kids whorin Salomon somethin fierce! Ya I bought these and have just been kinda stewin on how long they are for me. I was gonna center mount them cuz I ski a 176 Big Trouble that I can jump with no problem, but I just think I'd be sooo much more comfortable on something right around 170 that is center mounted...
  14. HollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHollaHolla!
  15. Title pretty much explains it. Picked these up on a whim and then decided that I think I want something a bit shorter for park, closer to like 170cm. The Dumonts are 176cm. 117-83-110. 18.5 radius. $425.
  16. Used?
  17. Boarders only huh... Just wait!
  18. Keep your eye out. The fire lens is pretty tough to find for a decent price, but I've seen the iridium and fire lenses go for closer to 65-70 bux on a pretty regular basis.
  19. Sounds cool. I hope they have good luck with their freeride program. Its hard work but a lot of fun.
  20. He wants at least 200 tickets sold before he'll go ahead with the premiere. So far I don't think anyone has contacted him about buying some. I love the guys that scream Yeah!!! I like when premieres get rowdy. If I wanna be alone with a ski movie I'll buy it, but I love watchin it with a buncha bros and being able to turn around and be like "Holy Shit!!!" after something gets me real amped. The speakers were definitely loud enough anyway... Ingrid is the hotness. I didn't see you Dan!? We don't bite man you shoulda sat with us.
  21. First mountain to do what?
  22. I was there with BMTROUBLEMAKER and Justos brother. Definitely a good premiere. Thank god for a bar! I couldn't do that drive with a beer in between. It seems like The Loft threw in a pretty good amount of product, but like 3 people walked away with it. They were giving everyone whose ticket got drawn like a full outerwear setup complete with helmet and goggles. I guess the odds are better than the lottery and its cool if the stakes are higher and you can walk away with a ton of gear like that, but I think its better vibes to have more people walk away with gear. Better for sponsors too, get your name out to more people. That was my only complaint about the whole event, and the losers ALWAYS have to complain about the product toss. Its in the skiing premiere handbook.
