I wouldn't put the chance of a park pass at 50/50. As much as I would prefer to have them, it is still a HUGE maybe. It has to be cost effective for the mountain in some way. At alot of resorts out west and in europe, they have turnstiles that provide access to the lifts by scanning a barcode of picking up a magnetic signal of a card. I see this as the best way to control the access to the top of the park. Of course you're still going to have people who jump through with their buddies, but it will cut down on john q. public just wandering in with 6 kids in tow. I know I'm gonna keep pushing a park pass at Blue as hard as I can, and I don't think I need to say why. There is more than enough evidence arguing for passes in previous posts.

There is a lot of talk between people about whose park is better, and everyone has their own opinion. I have had a blast in Bears park over the past couple of years, but it was obvious to many that Bue really raised the bar themselves this season. I'm sure there will be many more threads along this topic as the '06-'07 season draws closer, but why not start throwing ideas out there now. We forecasted a competition of sorts between the mountains this year in terms of whose park would be "better," but unfortunately the weather was rough in some spots which made it very hard for both places to keep their parks consistently top notch. Both mountains incorporated alot of suggestions from both the public and employees into their parks this year, and next year they will likely be an even bigger part of the final product that you end up riding. There is a pretty good presence on this board of park managers and workers, so you can guarantee that your voice will be heard. What kind of jibs, airs, and other features do you guys and girls wanna ride? Use pics, diagrams, and examples from movies whenever possible. Lets hear it! I personally would love to see a quarter pipe at Blue. I saw Bears at the end of the jump line, but unfortunately it was pretty beat by the time I got to hit it.

If it means anything I don't count carpet runs as a day. It really doesn't mean anything though cuz I don't call the shots.

Make it out of cheese...seriously. I've seen great features made from all the materials mentioned, I guess the point of this post is just to say that it depends on how much you want to spend. I would recommend all the materials suggested, but I've had some of the most fun on some of the cheapest features ever. Like 2x4s rigged up with ghetto PVC coping.

When will be Blue's last day? Let the arguing begin!

Until this year, they let the cafeteria staff take tips, and they always said it was for an end of year party. Then this year they told them they couldn't do it anymore for whatever reason. -

What kind of helicopter do you have that you can get from University of Delaware to Blue Mountain in an hour and twenty minutes? -
"I heard someone died going down razors or challenge on a tube- most likely bullshit." No. A kid did die about 6 or 7 years ago. From what I know he was an employee at the mountain and tried to take a tube down Mainstreet and died from head trauma when he hit either a lift tower or a tree. Not a fun way to go. "I personally have to give thought to maybe getting a blue pass next year instead, though the price difference kind of sucks." If you are into park then I don't think you will be dissapointed if you decide to get a pass at Blue. The management really showed how serious they were about having a legit park this year, and I'm stoked with the way the park turned out at Blue this year. You can be sure that riders will see many more park improvements next year.

When we were at Bear on Friday night Andy told us that he will be working on tearing down the park this week so that people aren't able to come up and session the features. Once they stop selling lift tickets that pretty much closes off the mountain to access for skiing and boarding. Blue's policy is pretty much the same, and from what I know they are very strict when it comes to people hiking the mountain. Several people have asked about hiking Blue in the spring, and have been told that they will be cited for trespassing due to the concerns about liability.

Unfortunately PA just isn't a place where skiing is part of the mainstream local culture. When it starts to hit mid 70s down here in philly, people arent exactly thinking snow because they remember the last time it snowed, but cant really remember how many immobile objects they hit on the way to work that morning.

"trev busted up his face on the down box in the big park, which was amusing to watch" Thanks assclown. My lower left eyelid is like 5 times bigger than the right one, kinda funny lookin. Saw shadows out, didn't talk to him too much cuz I was bitter about wrecking on my face, but definitely good to see him out there. I expected bear to be a mud puddle after hearing Marks comments on why they will be closing on Sunday. With some strategic snowcat use I definitely think they could have consolidated some snow here and there, especially on the tubing park jump line which might I add is serviced by its own magic carpet. Close down for a week or two, let the other mountains close, and then open a small terrain park in there and charge 10 or 15 bux to get in and I think you'd make a little money and perhaps even recruit a few new season pass customers for next year. Oh well, I got mixed opinions from people who work up there. Some people are glad to have a little break before their summer jobs start up, but most I talked to wouldn't mind seeing a bit more effort from the grooming and snowmaking crew, especially with the current 15 day forecast from both accuweather and the weather.com. Good time overall though. Hopefully next year is a different story, can't wait to see improvements.

Better Ways to the Spend the Money than the 6-Pack
snorovr replied to trackbiker's topic in Blue Mountain
Yeah Papa, there was an article in the Morning Call at the end of last season about zoning issues if Blue would build condos. I'm under the impression that the condos are not allowed to be rented out year round, but only during the actual ski season. -

Everyone I've ever talked to that has been at Blue for a long time has told me that Blue owns quite a good deal of land to the east of Paradise. That is why there has been talk from some of putting trails over there Kmar. -
Yeah lot of those people went for the audience experience rather than the music itself. I myself turned around after sitting on 91 for 15 hours after driving 9 hours up when Mike came on the radio and told everyone that they werent letting anyone else in, how was I to know they'd let people on foot in? How did this thread end up here?

If you want a good green run to take your girlfriend on, you forgot Vista. It is serviced by its own lift, and is definitely one of the better beginner hills in PA on a non windy day. -
Let me be one of the first to thank you for trying. Keep pushing the PA freeride scene like you guys have. I was only able to come up twice this year, but had a blast both times. Thanks again!

Ya I'll be in class from about 3:30 till 9pm this evening. Hate you all...

Actually this season they installed a larger water pipe on the main street side of the hill and it greatly increased the amount of snow they could make on that side of the mountain. -

They actually had those in Europe so people don't get lost when the normal trail poles get blown over. -
Hey Assasin, I've made skiing a JOB, and I couldn't be more stoked about it. And by the way, I was at the same bars as Bode, having drinks from the same bartenders, and skiing the next day as well. When I first got out on the slopes, I felt awesome. But that hangover starts gettin to you, and you get tired way faster than usual. I have no idea if Bode is affected the same way I am, but I wouldn't doubt it.

I agree with papa, at alot of my favorite resorts the best trails are the narrow and somewhat winding trails with whoops down them. Up at Okemo they have one trail that is bump after high speed bump, and you can floaty 180 and 360 down that trail all day long. -
Dont believe anything he says... Hopefully southern Vermont can add to there base a little bit, I'm trying to get an easter trip in with Justo and Toast.
