  1. It is something that they are talking about for the 2006/2007 season. From what I last heard they haven't decided where to put it yet. There were rumors last year that it would be between the Falls part of Razors and Paradise, I heard the "on top of Sidewinder" one too, but no one really knows yet. I think I posted before that they wanna use the new Zaugg to make a quarter pipe on riders right on the back wall of the halfpipe in the lower park. Probably put a soap box or something up there. They used to have the mailbox setup on the deck of the pipe, and hopefully we'll get to do something like that again this year.
  2. P-Tex will work alright for that. You could also use 5 minute epoxy, that works pretty well. Somethin my buddies and I have tried with success this year for topsheet gouges is surfboard resin.
  3. Nice. Did that guy from up north finally roll in today? Sidewinder for Friday or Saturday?
  4. Big Mountain! That place is sooo awesome. I took Amtrak there from Seattle back in the day and it was one of my favorite ski trips of all time. I dropped my poles on the backside chair right after they closed it and they took a sled and found them for me and had them waiting for me at the main lodge when I got down. That place is sick! Wanna go back after seein' those pics.
  5. Fists flew in Blue's park over the weekend... It was like driving southbound on New York I-87 on a busy Sunday night.
  6. Yeah today at Blue we were having a park crue training session/fixing up the hits, and people were yelling at us, givin us the finger, just bein dicks. All the while we are takin' 10 minutes to make sure the stuff is as nice as it can be. Ridiculous... Yesterday my buddy and I were just takin a few runs, and you had the customary kids talkin shit and then making fools out of themselves. Shut the hell up and ride.
  7. Doug if you were a parkrat you would understand why people drive from all directions to ride Bear. They have been by far the most park progressive mountain in the area. They are one of the biggest reasons why mountains like Blue are trying to step up their parks so much this year.
  8. In between face shots, I got to have a real interesting talk today w/ blues park crue, which I might be on, and some of the features that are being planned for this year sound tight. There are going to be a ton of new rails, which are gonna begin being made sometime this coming week. There is also talk of a fairly large quarter pipe with a soap box on top in the lower park, and some interesting ideas for sidewinder. For those who couldn't clear the first hit today, it was made more to give people an idea of what is to come in the park, just think that on bigger scale. Also, there will be a fair amount of beginner friendly features in the lower park. Let us know what you guys want to see.
  9. Haha a good beer choice for sure. But I don't wanna hijack Skier150s thread. Talk up Blues Freeride Ski Program. All ages welcome except if you're to young. Check Blue's website for details!
  10. Hasn't this topic gotten kind of played out here? It's not doing anything for the "ski and board community" PASR is trying to bring together... If you can get something for below cost, then go for it. But if its possible for a shop to match then give them a chance and just ask. Papa makes a great point, supporting local shops just supports your local ski scene in general. If you go on Blues website, a ton of the events are sponsored by Nestors. If you are in Camelbacks scene, I think the Loft sponsors a fair amount of stuff up there (correct me if I have the wrong shop). Its not that I'm not guilty of buying online, I bought stuff from Nestors this year, but there was also a pair of bindings online that were mis-priced for $100 below what they should have been. They sold 60 pairs before the company realized the error and corrected it but they had to honor the price that was posted. I jumped on that for the skis I just bought at Nestors. There was no way Nestors could match that because they were like 40-50 dollars below cost. I think the consensus of most of the "pro-shop" crowd is that you should support your shop whenever you can, because no one can deny that good shops are an invaluable resource, but if you see a smokin' deal, no ones gonna knock you for jumpin on that now and again.
  11. At the right store in Vermont like $35 will get ya three 12 packs of Magic Hat or Long Trail. Anyway, if you're up at Blue look for us in Blue's park this weekend. We should be handing out flyers or something about the Freeride Ski Program. We'll be the skiers playin' around and hikin' stuff. 5's off falls this weekend???
  12. "How many people actually spend 75 dollars for a one hour private lesson at Blue mountain? Does the instructor get about half that plus tips right. It seems like alot of cheddar but there are definitely alot of rich people that ski Blue." Doug you would be amazed at what people spend. You gotta remember that unlike many people on PASR, many of Blue's customers ski no more than 3 or 4 times in a year (if that even), and often make a weekend out of it. Also, many of these people don't have discounts or passes like alot of people on this board, which is what makes skiing such a hard sport to get into for the average family. Take a family of four for example, 2 kids, 2 adults. Lets say the parents want the kids to be in the kids program all day, thats $150 right there. Then lets say both parents want a private lesson together for one hour, which comes to $110 dollars. So this family has already spent $260. That doesn't include food, gas, lodging if this is a vacation, etc... People drop some serious cash on ski weekends. Even with all the discounts I get I can't spend a weekend in Vermont for less than 100 bux. Although if I didnt spend $30 of that on beer I'd probably be better off... My favorite line cut abusers are ski patrollers who bring up their buddies and then cut with them in tow claiming that they are on duty. I also love the race kids who have cutting priveleges in the morning, but seem to think those last all day...
  13. "Ideally, slalom and GS are the same turns, just without the delayed transition." yes because turning at 10-20mph is the same as turning at 40-50mph... and if they are the same turns, then why don't they use the same pair of skis?
  14. I was talking more of just fast GS type carving. Something more like the average skier would do. I dont see a whole lot of people who ski all mountain type stuff on skis with a12 meter turning radius, so I was basing everything off of more all mountain type skis with a turning radius from like 16m on up. Modern slalom is a totally different ballgame.
  15. I love those days when you're not even thinking about it and you just nail everything. Doing what works for you works to a point, but not everyone can think about what they're doing and realize what is going to make them faster. Bode didn't really see alot of success in the international arena with his crazy style until his coaches told him to open his stance (and other bits of advice), and then he took the title. Now that he has incorporated some of the advice other people have given him, he has made drastic improvements in his times and the amount of events he is winning. Nah I don't race...unless the course has gaps, berms, and large jumps...
  16. Yeah thats exactly what I was getting at with keeping move even pressure on your skis, and the hip width stance allows you to get the uphill ski way more on edge. Bode is a total anomaly though, what works for him hasn't helped a ton of other skiers to a noticabely large degree. The thing that has helped Bode and many other racers and people in general who love to carve is opening their stance, so that they can use their edges in a more effective way.
  17. Have you ever skied powder? Turning in powder isn't correlatable in any way to turning on very firm hardpack or ice. Its a totally different sensation. It isn't about "throwing your weight on the outside ski," if you did that then you'd be on your ass. Different pow has to be skied in different ways, you have the heavy pow of the Pacific Northwest, the light pow of the Rockies, and everything in between. Watch some of the older TGR flicks where guys are rippin' through pow and wind berms and lifting their outside ski and carving huge turns through pow. If powder was uncontrollably hard to turn in, then myself and many other skiers and boarders wouldn't be here talking about how awesome it is. Also, instead of throwing your weight on your outside ski while rippin hardpack, try keeping your skis about hip width apart, and apply close to even pressure on both skis. Alot of people drop their outside ski back and let the inside ski lead the turn, while putting all their weight on the outside ski. This points your hips off the trail, and doesn't let you make the turn nearly as efficiently. Try to keep your outside ski tip close to parallel with your inside tip, if not in front of it leading the turn, and this will keep your hips facing down the fall-line. This will let you rail your edges alot harder, keep more speed through the apex of the turn, make the transition from edge to edge/turn to turn much quicker, and overall make you a good deal faster while still rippin hard carves. Works wonders on boilerplate too!
  18. Its pretty easy to argue that pow gives you more control because it slows you down...
  19. Yeah I'm an instructor up there now. My little bro will be doing ITC this weekend. They give you a ticket good for all day, so it should be no problem riding post-ITC. Usually they start at 8am and let you out around 4pm or so. Do you know what department you're gonna be working in yet? if you need more info on ITC, go to www.bluschools.com and there is a link that should give you most of what you're lookin for. yes its supposed to be missing the "e."
  20. Haha I'll never understand racers... Right now it looks like 3-6 inches is a definite. Maybe more if things come together right?
  21. Its all about the 92mm waist! The National Weather Service has ALREADY posted a severe weather bulletin for the surrounding area in advance of the thursday/friday storm and its only tuesday night. Still calling for 6-12 inches... I always thought Blue should put chains on one of their buses and run a shuttle from a parking lot on the Allentown side of the mountain. I've seen sooooo many cars get stuck tryin' to get up Blue Mt. Drive after even small snows. It probably wouldn't make any money for them, but its just one of those "wouldn't it be cool" ideas.
  22. Haha she would be smokin' kids on Main.
  23. "How is Blue opening tomorrow, when they are over 100 miles south of GP and the base elevation is about 1000 ft lower. They must have one kickass snow making crew." Yeah Blue has totally surprised us this year with how quickly they are trying to open. A week or two ago all the talk for "first to open" was about Shawnee. Now Shawnee isn't opening till the 9th. Blue must have taken alot of hints over the past couple seasons because this is starting to look like a really progressive year for them. With the new freeride ski program, all the work on their park and pipe features, and a few other improvements, hopefully this will continue and we can expect the improvements to keep coming. Sure there are still complaints, all the positive things Blue has done in the pre-season have me stoked for a solid season.
  24. I wonder how many times I get in trouble tomorrow for building hits on Main Street...
  25. "The perimeter of the cold will support an active storm track. The first will occur in the East late Sunday night and Monday. Later in the week, another storm may slip southward along the east slopes of the Rockies and hook up with a disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico. That would open the door for another big weather event in the eastern part of the country by next weekend. " Direct accuweather quote. Things could get interesting over the next week and a half or so...
