Melissa Gets Mountain Cred (sort of); TR 3/21/08

just ski it! if thats the worst thing you are worried about then it shouldnt be a big deal at all. hiking to get your ski if you fall isnt a big deal. i had to hike down the mountain today because my ski shot off 200 yards. i think you can handle it. if you dont do it this weekend at some point, then our relationship is over. -
Blue closes tomorrow. boo. i got up there today around 10ish. 70th day of the year. last year i had 69 days and the year before that i had 89. it was pretty damn good. right from the start i met up with Skier1112 (Ben i think). we skied mostly park all morning until Doug got there in the afternoon a little after 12. when i pulled in today it was sunny and there were about 20x as many cars as i expected. i didnt think that people came out to ski once it got warm. i guess i was wrong. that parking lot was packed and i couldnt get my traditional spot that i always get so i was pissed. when we first cruised through the park it was pretty beat. but after things started to soften up, park crue actually did there job and made things pretty nice. they didnt really rebuilt any lips (which is needed in many places) but they raked stuff and salted the jumps which made them 100% better. ironically, this next picture is of park crue sitting on their sleds for about 30 minutes doing nothing other than watch people. cool. since it was kinda crowded today there were some pretty serious encounters with the Lift Nazi. he definitely set some line cutters straight and gave them a good scolding. people must have been confused today. there was a guy who was wearing a nice neon one-piece outfit that looked stellar. he is actually the guy who set the Lift Nazi off by cutting lines. that stupid jerk. Towards the end of the session we met up with TMaki, Matt Stoudt, LilMiller, and some other part rats. we had a pretty good time. there was some dude throwin down some SERIOUS daffies. we rode the lift with another guy who was talking about how he had to tuck his bell bottoms into his boots in the 70s by folding the bottoms in half because they were so damn big. called it a day after that lift ride and on my last hit of the day (the stairs) i landed and my ski popped off and shot through the trees onto challenge because my brake is broken. it ended up getting so mangled that i couldnt even put my ski back on, so i had to ski down on one ski from there. i looked like a loser holding my ski in the other hand. oh well. it was a great day and the sun was still shining over good ole' Blue Mountain when i left. I hope to see a ton of faces there tomorrow!

i agree. i didn't see you though.

also, it wasn't cold enough either. just because it is below freezing doesn't mean they can blow snow. 30 degrees doesnt cut it. and it is windy as hell out there, they wouldn't have gotten any snow down even if they tried. -
i'm heading up soon too, i think. its just windy as hell out there.
-
what time are you going?
-
because of this mistake that you made of posting in the wrong forum, you BETTER be at Blue on saturday to ski with all of us PASR's on closing day
-
if you are going to Blue i'll see ya there. i'll be there for opening and i'll stay until lunchtime. i'm sure i'll see you there since there are 7 people on the mountain...
-
oh i guess i missed you up there today..........

i have been up pretty much every other morning and i dont think there was a single day that i didnt see something groomed, unless you are specifically talking about the lips to rails or something like that. from what i saw, they have been grooming all of the trails. but yeah, park crue is being lazy as hell lately.
-
as long as somebody does it. while you are there, whip Rice into shape and get his ass in gear.
-
it was fun. nice and soft. you will enjoy it. there are only a few random ice patches from the base showing.

what a great day to ski Blue. the rain stopped, its warm out, i have nothing better to do, and it closes in 2 days. so i got up there this morning around 8:15 and booted up to get first chair. nobody was there that said they would be for opening that i saw, so i just went on my way and took a few runs. paradise was decent, razors was good, lazy was good, and burma were all pretty decent. cloudy skies all morning and lots of skidmarks on the trails of the original base showing through. Burma was the best of the day. i really dont head over there much, but lately it has been groomed real nicely and isnt getting much traffic. i didn't see many other tracks on it other than a snowmobile, so it was a nice run. the bumps weren't too bad either. kinda soft, but still hard... i guess. something like that. after a few more runs down challenge and razors, i saw Justin riding up the lift. when i got to the top he was waiting up there with TP4. first time meeting TP4. he's definitely a pretty cool kid. real chill. its crazy what you imagine people to look like from this site and then you meet them in real life. anyway.... we hit up come around park first, which is a DISASTER. (if you are going to Blue to ski park, go home) everything was trashed, and park crue hadn't touched anything in there yet. that lift ride up we say Oakley and one of his friends so we waited for them and then took a few runs through Sidewinder, which was also a mess. park crue at least came in there and fixed some stuff up. the first two and the last jump were 'alright'... extremely small, but still in okay shape considering the conditions. so that was my morning at Blue. i'm not gonna lie, its probably good that they are closign this weekend, because i dont know how much longer they could make it on some of the trails. the hard rain and warm temps yesterday killed them. they could probably keep at least 50% of the trails open, but its not really worth it for them to do that. oh well, there are other mountains around here that might still be looking alright. maybe tomorrow will be better...
-
if conditions of the park agree, i'm in as well. see you for opening.
-
thats the spirit! thats crazy early though... you realize they open at 8:30 right? how long of a drive is it for you?
-
for sure that would be a good idea, but i dont think it would be economical or even beneficial for them do do because it would require an extra staff member, resulting in providing them a paycheck, and also it would mean they would have a higher electric bill. i'm guessing they are going for the least cost possible and still trying to provide the best service as possible. that would be so nice to have though, like a nice rail garden that you didnt have to hike. i'd be there in a second.
-
last time you said you were going to be there you drank too much. and then you overslept or something. so you just hit bear. you better not puss out again, or i'll hunt you down...
-
no problem. i'll snap some shots so you have some visuals to make your decision. you should probably just go up saturday as well. there will be a ton of us there and you are pretty much guaranteed a good time, regardless of the shittiness of the conditions.
-
damn i'm not sticking around that long. i'll be there for opening until 12 or 1 at the latest, depending on conditions. i wouldn't expect much from the park at this point if i were you. i'll be up tomorrow morning to check things out, so hopefully it isnt too bad.

CB redeemed themselves for sure this last month of the season. they closed a lot this year for random stuff, but then to give FREE lift tickets to any other season pass holder and then a free season pass to the 10 millionth is just pretty damn cool to do. great PR on their part. i'm impressed. anybody know when they are closing?
