Where's Phillycore??
GrilledSteezeSandwich replied to GrilledSteezeSandwich's topic in Blue Mountain
Thanks shadows. Yeah I guess those numbers seem decent for people with a college degree but if you have kids double those numbers unless the spouse is also bringing in good $$$$. I think a major factor is being a minimilist. Aside from ski stuff I really don't buy anything, I don't have cable, I barely have any furniture, I wear the same purple polo shirt for 4 years...wearing it today...then you have more money for fun stuff. If somebody makes over $60k they prob aren't buying a used car in the boondocks. I believe the average salary around here is about $35,000 a year and that's not starting that includes all people from fast food workers to doctors. Average for a household is around $55,000. -
Nice reports. I kept all reports for Jackson hole in the same thread cause my goal was 5,000 views in the thread...snowbird tomorrow for the big powder day? How early do you get in line for the Tram?? Report says 3" and looks deeper!!!!

I don't remember you explaining anything just that you'd commute to philly for $60,000 a year. I think it depends on a variety of factors..whether you have kids, what your living expenses are like and if you're in debt. I do know what when I graduated from college in 2001 most starting salaries for business school undergrads were around $35-40k a year..I actually made $38k at Merrill lynch and today starting salaries aren't much higher. First year I worked for my dad I made $22,000 and still went to Jackson hole that year but only for five days. To make 5 times my age we'd have to match our best year which I think was 2008..so I make somewhere between $60,000 and $185,000. -

The guys at the CioccaSubaru dealership make at least that but they are super high volume. Anyway $60,000 a year would be about 1600-1700 per paycheck every two weeks if you didn't have any write offs or deductions. My office manager makes over $60,000 a year..probably closer to $65k with bonus but she's a broke single mom putting two kids through college. -

I still don't get where that $60,000 number comes in. $60,000 a year is barely middle class. After taxes that's like $40,000 a year. -
Best Mountain in Catskills Midweek?
GrilledSteezeSandwich replied to Mess's topic in Other Mountains
Hunter is the best ski area in the Catskills but not the best one for intermediates. Belleayre only has two or three blues from the top. -
Nice although this should be in the Utah thread :-)

It's gonna rain in Vermont Wednesday morning but doesn't look like much rain. Just be hopeful of snowmaking and natural snow after the thaw freeze. I don't think it's worthy of cancelling it's just gonna put the woods out of play most likely. -

It's simple supply and demand. They set the highest price point that people will pay. If people would pay $80 that's what it would cost. Blue is expensive but has deals like $30 Sunday nights, $20 for night skiing on the super bowl and $14 for a four hour ticket on Valentine's Day. Jackson hole charges $130 a day..it's not about warranting a particular price that's just what people are willing to pay. It's basic lemonade stand economics.

Almost every big game thats lopsided at halftime the other team comes back and ties it. I'm not a big sportsball fan but it was the same thing in that penn state bowl game. Your grandkids won't care about the game they'll be more into the flying car races and robot Olympics. I'm out of touch with football but saw that Tom Brady is about the oldest pro football player to still be relevant so that makes it more impressive. 39 years old wow just wow.

The question is do you live to work or work to live. Most people work to live and nothing wrong with going to work regularly to pay for your bills and the things you enjoy to do. -

Hey All, I'm back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 7:25am and in the house were Atomic Jeff, Shadows, Toast, Johnny Law, Indiggio, Tarponhead, MBike Mike, TP4, Matt Edge, VTMark, Slim, GahSkier George, Marty, West Chester honeys, Allie, and many more. Got Shadows his buddy pass and he booked me up with a dank beer..first run on challenge was alright groomed hardpack..I had issues with my pass and got a new pass and picture ended up riding the lift with MBike Mike after replacement pass and was like 8 chairs behind the PASRs so did challenge while they did nightmare to Dreamweaver to catch up. Main Street was super good..run of the day and nightmare Dreamweaver was also super good although got crazy later on. Switchback was the fastest run of the day with no new snow and also empty when I skied it. Lazy mile also had nice snow as well. Crowds were similar to yesterday no real liftlines but blue was definitely making some serious Johnny Cash as crowds from NY and NJ and even VA were in the Hiz Ouse. Parking lot was fun and good beers were had by all. Atomic Jeff brough Jai Alai and I had some hop ranch and some cans of Vermont beer seem to still be in circulation. Temperatures were generally in the 20s and sky's were cloudy. This week looks like nice skiing tomorrow then rain and warmth Tuesday and Wednesday and then next weekend cold again with snowmaking temperatures. Anyway no fog or rain and some solid skiing this weekend I'll take it!! Thanks blue you're my boy!!!

I had a lot of fun being back at Blue for the first time in two weeks. I pulled into the lower lot at 7:23am and it was sunny and 17 degrees with a light wind and snowmaking blasting on many runs. Got first civilian six pack and first run down challenge was pretty nice stiff cord. After Jackson hole challenge felt like Lupine Way the blue that leads into amphitheater. Razors was a challenge with a variety of snowmaking piles, stuff snow, whoop Dee doos and other hazards. In the house were Toast, Atomic Jeff, NMSki, Johnny law, Indiggio Root, Phillycore, MBike Mike, Nastar Glenn, Tarponhead, Slim and many others. Switchback Was nice early on and smooth. Main Street and nightmare dream and lazy had fresh man mand made and paradise was nice and chalky. Was nice conditions and from 8-9 no liftlines and 9-10 only a minor line maybe 2-3 minutes still s solid amount of people out. Enjoyed ample sunlight in the parking lot and had a few beers from moderate to high test and looking forward to more fun at blue mountain the true mountain tomorrow morning!!! Hats off to the snowmakers for taking advantage of every window of snowmaking possible!!!
