Jackson Hole 2025…A-Holes in JHole..
GrilledSteezeSandwich replied to GrilledSteezeSandwich's topic in Other Mountains
The Tram opened slightly earlier than the gondola and a few of the very lower lifts were running. Saturday and Sundays powder days were on time starts even with avy bombing but today was a once or twice a year occurrence such a delayed start due the the copious amounts of moisture in the last load of snow. Normally a delayed start like this means a boner doner pow day but it wasn’t powder today just new snow. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of sympathy from all y’all. It’s very rare for JH to have a day they completely shutdown. That happened once last season as avy conditions were way too dangerous and also back in 2009 the whole mountain shut down around 10am because winds were so strong. Years later strong winds over 140mph knocked out power to the entire Teton village and the resort was shut down for four days. Thats a real stoke stomper. Also hearing patrol on radio yesterday,”42 year old male right side of Grand knee pop” big yikes. Fantastic supper at Orsetto I had cheese garlic bread and steak Diane. Atomic Jeff caught me walking to the Loaf and Jug..I swear I can’t pick my nose and eat a booger without him noticing -

February 3rd 2025 Day 6 of 7 Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Jackson hole. The snow report indicated 15” new in the last 24 hours but only 6” overnight. Overnight it was in the 30s and rainy in town and a massive amount of snow melted and I didn’t even go to the bagel place much to atomic Jeff’s dismay cause I didn’t want my shoes to get all wet. We arrived at the hill at 810am and got into the singles line and waited and waited and waited some more and right before 11am the gondola finally opened. First run to Thunder via Amphitheater was untracked and slightly tracked thick crud..a couple inches of it. Up thunder and grand was a little better..lots of untracked but I haven’t skied this kind of sierra cement much so was trying to stay in control. Sublette was closed due to high winds and we went back to Thunder which had a massive liftline so took marmet to the woods we skied the other day. Untracked of course but a lot more effort to make short turns through tight spaces. Up Marmet again to a similar run and then I skied lower tram line to the base and that was it. The longest short ski day ever..Me and atomic Jeff went to the mangy and Dan and Nazareth Jay did another couple runs. I like powder, nice spring snow and groomed..bumps as well but not a huge fan of sierra cement…some like Johnny law will say you can really slut it up in that but not like in pow pow. So I’ll say it was a new snow day not a powder day like the previous two. I still have an afterglow from yesterday’s Hobacks. So im actually hoping it doesn’t snow overnight or just a little bit so it’s not such a shit show tomorrow. I’ve had plenty of sleeper pow days at Jh but this storm cycle was announced so far in advance that I even rode the lift with somebody who drove from Wisconsin for this storm. Sorry no pictures today with a delayed start I wasn’t stopping to take pictures. -

Three Avy bombs so far in snow king. Leaving for the mountain in a few. 15” in the last 24 hours and 6” overnight the caveat is it’s pouring rain in town and on the lower mountain prob real thick. -
Thanks @saltyant
-
Yeah or maybe @Johnny Style what’s up with that
-
What day do you leave for Stowe? I’ll check their forecast along with Jackson hole and Arizona snow bowl.
-
@saltyant I’m glad you wrote a camelback report because no PASRs were at Blue mountain this past weekend
-

February 2nd 2025 Jackson Hole day 5 of 7 Today dawned with 7” of new snow in the past 24 hours and 16” in the last 2 days. I saw Dirtwolf at the bagel place again today…had first tracks at Pearl street bagels and a lot more first tracks throughout the day. A slow and steady drive to the mountain had us there around 8am and in line for the gondola at 810am it was snowing hard with a temperature around 30 degrees and we were maybe 15 people back in the singles line. Amphitheater was deep..as deep as yesterday a tad lighter density but medium to dense I guess..the left side all untracked my goggles were giving me some issues so I skied it a little slower and kept atomic Jeff waiting like a whole minute at the Thunder chair. Next run getting to Grand low vis plus goggle issues I just decided to ski alone…but don’t cry for me Argentina..my goggles got a little better later and all I skied was untracked..lots and lots of it. Grand was boner doner..Jeff was like it was so deep and untracked on the left, well the center was as well..then off to the Hobacks and second or third best Hobacks for me…the line I usually take is less travelled to begin with but just a handful of people in there and that’s where I took the most pictures…I literally felt old moguls like three spots in 2500 vertical feet. Union pass had a bit of a line and the heavy snow on the mountain was more a rain snow mixture with some sleet pellets..I was pretty soaked already…the guy I rode the lift with said his son is at mammoth and it’s raining to the peak. I skied into the village used the restroom and went into ski shop to see about cat poop which is something that prevents goggles from fogging but honestly my helmet and strap and foam just so soaked wouldn’t have mattered and the line was so long and others using hand dryers on goggles in the restroom. I just used a few paper towels and last few runs like 40% better…i took teewinot to apres vous and the main blue run was giant pow bumps and Jerry’s everywhere so I ducked right into the Moran area to the skiers left of the Teton lift and that was really good and not a ton of people. By now I was super soaked it wasn’t a big vert day but a big untracked snow day and I didn’t want in any long liftlines..doing the hobacks early today the pro move. I’m sure it was great later but not blank canvass…I stopped at the mangy moose store while boys were still skiing had an iced tea outside and like fifteen minutes later they were done and then went back to town changed into dry clothes and went to the snake river brewery for lunch. Mexican food tonight I could go for a frozen strawberry margarita served in a chalice the size of a small bird bath.- 100 replies

Visibility is no problem and yesterday woods were definitely in play even before the snowstorm. Airhead you should get out here, you’d have a blast and really maximize the experience. -

Jackson Hole Day 4 of 7 2/1/2025 Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Jackson hole mountain resort. The day dawned mild and snowy with a temperature of around 30 degrees in town with a couple inches of new snow and 9” new reported on the mountain. In the house were Atomic Jeff, JFDan, Nazareth Jay and Dirtwolf. We arrived at the mountain around 8am and were in line for the gondola around 810am to the sounds of avalanche bombs above. Miraculously the mountain opened on time and a few minutes later we were whisked up the mountain in the Bridger gondola. Down Amphitheater to Thunder was some thick new snow and was pretty tracked already by all the wallets and people ahead. Up Thunder and center of grand had a lot of untracked still kind of sierra cement. Up Sublette and into the cirque for the first time this trip..lots of new snow and untracked down into Amphitheater which was beat. By now Thunder had an overflowing corral but we waited once for about ten minutes to ride Thunder back up, then traverses below the expert chutes for some untracked and here it seemed lighter. Back down and we took the Marmot chair since it had no line. We ended up doing four laps off the Marmot chair skiing a couple short sections of slightly tracked glades..here the snow was more medium density. After the fourth woods lap we skied down to Casper chair and I was beat so skied to the base via blacktail and Sundance and like 20 minutes later the boys were done. We ended up at the Mangy moose again it was super packed in there but we got a table. Fun skiing a lot of untracked today and I think tomorrow will be even better and they needed the higher density snow to cover up the hardpack. jADIP -

From the JH Avalanche forecast. The approaching multi-day atmospheric river will bring widespread snow with periods of heavy snowfall of over 1 inch an hour. By Saturday evening (5pm) forecasted snow totals are showing over 12 inches of snow across all forecast zones. Areas favored by the storm in the Tetons and Snake River Range could receive closer to 18 inches of snow. Strong wind is forecasted to peak in intensity Saturday. Another strong pulse is followed on Sunday with continued snowfall into early next week. Powder season is back as we roll into February. -

I wouldn’t feel bad for these people it’s badass they get to ski in Arizona. Weather patterns are weird. Tahoe had like 3-4 dry seasons in a row and it was 49 at the top of Jackson hole two days ago. The fact that people in Phoenix have better local skiing than Philly peeps is remarkable.
