You sound similiar to my size about 3 years ago. I was about 160 at the time and I rode a 156 and it felt good all around. I'm 175/180 now and I"m riding a 159 so I feel like a 158 is too big for you. A 153 would be my minimum, a 151 would be too small.

Once there is enough snow there this winter I really want to ski the trees with you one weekday, I know about 4 routes and it seems you know a dozen.
-
They're going at 1pm, isn't 2 or 3 about the warmest time of the day? Sure seems like 24+ hours straight is a possibility.
-
Still making snow at 11am, always a good day if that is the case.
-
I don't know much about them but thats not true. We carried them at my shop prior to me working there so we had a few left but they dropped them for reasons that I don't know, so there must be something about them that they don't like.

Well technically I think Camelback and Blue had about the same amount of terrain open, it was just disappointing that Camelback didn't open the rest of the mountain they had snow on, where as Blue didn't have snow anywhere else to open.
-
Just a reminder Camelback reopens the freeriding trails tomorrow at 9. 16 trails, 3 lifts, snowmaking on a few more. Get out and make sure they know early season people will buy lift tickets.
-
I'd go to Camelback over Blue right now. Blue has no high speed lifts, shorter vert, and apparently crappy snow. Camelback has quite a few trails going, a high speed lift. Crowds are probably on par.

Not sure if anyone else likes his forecasts. I have been looking at them over the last 5 years and they seem to be decently right. He doesn't really predict snow down to a date but his focus is general trends. Here is his winter outlook, and then he updates it often from there. http://www.snocountry.com/users.php?mode=profile&uid=12

The graphic up now is different than the one before. I like the one right now (white/black checkerboard), didn't know there was more than 1 style. Now I'm almost tempted except I already have goggles.

Whats up with the snow this year? I know it will come eventually but I'm starting to get nervous. Nothing on the 15 day of any consequence. If you are planning a trip at what point do you decide to go elsewhere? I haven't put money down but I figure if there is still no snow 2 weeks before my trip, there won't be enough snow to make it worth the money.

http://www.whiskeymilitia.com/?aid=1615057&pid=2342050 $39.99 for $130 goggles, act now. Spy isn't bad and for $40 you can't go wrong right? Just ugly as hell IMO but some people probably love them

I love this quote. If businesses were so infallible, I wouldn't have lost 8 percent in my IRA yesterday. It was packed on Saturday, you are going to tell me they can get more people out on a random Saturday morning but not this week after school? Because the bottom line is that they are running the lift all regular season with few people there, and they are not running it this week when a lot of people would like to go there. They have no data points to forecast from because they were never the best mountain open during the first week of the season before, but now they are and they are squandering it.

I'm less likely to know about the topic than the guys who are going to post after me, so if they tell you different follow their advice, but I would just go with what the manufactuer recommends if it is your first pair. If you had been through a few sets and really knew what you were doing then maybe having a preference would matter, but if its your first pair of skis just follow the recommendations and don't do anything fancy.

+1 Not even directed at Chippy, but all the people who come and ask questions on forums about which gear to buy, and 10 guys who know what they are talking about try to tell that person what is the best gear for their situation, and the person just responds NAW, I really want to buy THIS. If you want to buy that product and are looking for affirmation of that, then don't ask us for our opinions because you are just wasting our time.

I have the opposite, my toe turns are where any control issues prop up. For me a heel side turn the high back takes all the force I want to apply.
-
I just have three lenses, clear for night, light yellow for mostly cloudy or snow, and a silver reflective for sunny or partly sunny days. It is pretty easy to figure out which one you need on any given day when you are at your car and swapping lenses takes all of 30 seconds.
-
The thing I notice most is that without a toe strap holding your toes down your foot often twists the stance angle a bit so that the boot is up on the frame. If the frame where a bit higher, maybe another half inch, it would keep your foot in line with the stance angle you set and the toe strap would be unnecessary entirely. I notice it a little on presses and butters but never on regular riding. The only major difference for me is that I now wear a leash because if the ankle strap fails I don't want the board falling on someone.

Salomon Board and 2 sets of bindings for sale
method9455 replied to rastasquid's topic in Classifieds
Yea I just don't try to sell my boards at all, the money you get for them is not worth it. I had a bunch of boards that where a bit shot but still plenty rideable for new guys and as my friends starting picking up the sport I was handing out boards and saving my friends hundreds of bucks because they where on par with rental equipment and it allowed me to have a lot more people to ride with which makes it more fun for me. Bindings hold up a lot better so they hold their value longer, especially larger sizes. It is near impossible to find Men's Large (or Ride XL with their weird sizing) left over at shops so the used market for bindings is a lot more lucrative. -
Yea they were the Cartels, and they replaced them I'm just saying it happened and I rode two more days on my vacation with no toe strap and it really wasn't a big deal, and I'm riding again without one this year on my Rides and it doesn't effect me in the least. I think at this point toe straps are pretty unnecessary and thats what Ride is going for with the contraband, but if it is hard to get into they basically failed on the design front.

Definately true. I have had good luck with my Anon Figments & Oakleys. Watch here for good deals on either http://www.cleansnipe.com/

Salomon Board and 2 sets of bindings for sale
method9455 replied to rastasquid's topic in Classifieds
He's not low balling you. That board never ridden would be $200 this year easily. A board worth much more than that from last year never ridden can be found for $200 from a lot of shops. Those bindings this year never ridden would be $75. Yours is not only ridden but it is heavily used and scratched. Don't confuse what you paid for it with what it is worth, these things depreciate rapidly. Hell DHarrisburg was selling new 08/09 Ride DH's which is a better board for the price you are quoting. From this year still in the plastic. I just looked at a pair of 07/08 Line Prophets on Saturday with only 6 days on them and no visible damage, and the guy was selling them for 40% of their original value simply because they didn't have the plastic rap on them anymore. I bought a Burton Jeremy Jones with about 10 days on it, 0 ptex work or epoxy work required, for $50 one year after it was sold new for $400 something. You need to get in touch with the market price if you want to sell those things. Personally I would just keep the board and sell the bindings because the bindings are in good shape, and the board has little if any value in cash but might still be a good riding board. I'm not saying the board isn't still a good riding board, its just that the market is flooded with boards people got tired of and are selling and are still in better shape than the one you are selling. So you have to undercut their prices or no one will be dumb enough to bite. To you, it has value, but to someone else, why buy the scratched up one when there are dozens of others? -
The hike park is gone though, and the new park to me isn't as great as the one in the hike park. Nipples I'm sorry I forgot to take pictures the other day it was really dumb of me to carry a camera around all day and not take any. There are probably only 2 or 3 features worth it there for you, one jump that is smaller than Boulders but still alright, a down flat down and an urban down rail. I also specifically asked at the park pass video what their policy on inverts is, officially you will still get your lift ticket clipped for them but unofficially they don't care. I saw a kid do a back flip and no one chased him down with sirens so it looks to me like they are going to let it go now.
-
There is a lot of truth to that.I am currently riding 08 Ride Alphas with a heel strap on each binding, but only one toe strap since I lost one on the last run of my last day in winter 08. And I check my gear pretty religiously so I'm shocked that I lost one. That said, I also snapped the plastic strap and lost a Burton cap strap, so screws are not the only way to do that.

I have to give you guys props for keeping the resort open despite what terrible weather you have in the south. Every time there is border line snow/rain, you guys get rain and the rest of the hills get snow but people still compare what you guys do to what they do. It is impressive but sad at the same time, I wish mother nature would throw you guys a bone now and then.
