Its old school, thats why I put the link to it below. If you follow mountains long enough you find that trails (especially glades) come and go over the course of time rather drastically. --Oh and I won't be at JFBB tomorrow, probably on thursday, I'm going to Belleayre tomorrow -

I'm deciding between JFBB and Belleayre. I thought my girlfriend would be studying tomorrow but she is free so I might head up there with her. If I don't go up there I'll be at JF around 12:30-1 and I'll be there until close, then hop over to Boulder for about 3-4 hours and then come home. Thanks for the info on the trail, I'll post what I'm doing in a bit. If I don't go tomorrow, I will be up thursday unless Blue opens challenge or razors, then I'm going to Blue. Ah ... the decisions during vacation are so much better than the decisions you have to make while working. -

http://www.skireport.com/images2/trailmaps/large/221.jpg So you come off the east mountain lift - head to challenge, go down challenge a ways, go through the tree section and end up back on river shot and take the east mountain lift up again? Or is it just glades on the skier's left of lightning and you go out a ways towards challenge and then back onto river shot, sorry but I just wasn't following, I am planning on going tomorrow and I want to try it. -
Nice perk for unlimited pass holders
method9455 replied to RidgeRacer's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
JFBB does definitely have the worst system of all. I have a clear pocket in my jacket to hold the season pass card, I don't want all these damn tickets hanging around on me. Between waiting in line to get one, and cutting it off I lost 10 minutes a day to it. Its only 10 minutes a day, but it adds up, and what is the point? If they are going to check at the lift line every time you get on anyway why check at guest services also? So they can look at your picture? Guess what, if I wanted to I could use my season pass, and cut the wicket in the parking lot and sell it to some kid - its even worse than just passing the season pass among a few people. Before I had to trust the person I was giving it to so I could get it back, now I can sell it to any loser who wants to poach. It is a stupid system with no obvious benefits. -

There is a serious problem with it though, every time I'm up there I see a few kids busted. Although in the parking lot I get approached to buy lift tickets off me about as often as I did at mountain creek. At creek though you didn't get lift tickets you had a card so they couldn't get it, doesn't giving pass holders regular tickets make it MORE likely they will get sold in the lot? I never sell mine, but a lot of people ask. -
True, mom's know how to fix stains. Scotch guard is a good plan also.

I really avoid the solvent base cleaner, it dries it out so much. If the base is really that bad, bring it to a shop and pay to get the bottom run over a machine. You can do wax & edges at home but nothing compares to a real stone grind. Especially if you do any ptex work.
-
GSS you should get an airblaster and start that fad for vert hounds.
-
Depends what your doing. If it is rail paint on your legs, its like the scratches on the bottom of a skateboard, shows you aren't a pussy. But if it is mud from sitting on your ass, then it sucks.

I dunno I'm with Adrian. I've seen the amount of camo, plaid, bright colors go out the door of the ski shops that now if you wear a one tone you are standing out. Look at the jacket in my pictures, solid red jacket, solid grey pants aside from a logo here and there. I stand out from the park guys way more than if I had any kind of camo. The only flashy thing I have is my goggles and they stand out more so it all comes together really well. Oh and I match which most people skip over. And yea, queer eye for the ski guy, but it pays the bills because knowing this stuff sells more jackets than not knowing this stuff.
-
It's not the stores, the stuff this year is just god awful. It took 4 shops to find something for my girlfriend that was acceptable. Do you have any idea what kind of stuff you want, sometimes it is easier to ask who has one brand or another and go from there.

Normally I would say hiked it, but that was Jeremy Jones I believe and I know he has a sled he shows it off in Chulksmack so maybe they drove up the night before? Or hiked up? But hiking up and down would be stupid just hike up at dawn, so they probably dropped it off with a sled.

Is that a butter snow box on the right? Oh man I have been wanting to ride one of those for YEARS ever since I saw the northstar at tahoe shots of them like 4 seasons ago, and I've never seen one on the east coast except for Quebec.

Are those the Head skis? They're nuts. I kind of thought "bullshit a micro chip that controls stiffness", but the head guy came in with one cut in half. One guy holds the wires coming from the chip and one guy smacks it into the ground. You get the shock of your life if you are holding the wires. Their is a piezo electric material that generates electricity from the vibration of skiing. Hypothetically then the electricity stiffens the ski and smooth out the vibration. Truthfully there is no "microchip" but it works so who cares?

No way, give me a steep landing every time and I board. The hardest part is dialing the speed on something like that. Usually I find a kid who is nailing it and follow him in to the hit but don't hit the jump so I don't crash down on his head.

Truthfully I'm not expecting Sidewinder unless they had opened it as free ride only, but if they have Paradise + Challenge I'll be at Blue one of the two days. More likely Thursday, I might hit JFBB on wednesday with some friends for the $10 college night.
-
I dunno, thats how we've gone my whole life. I guess because we're an hour away we have to make the most of it, I'm the opposite of you though. I warm up for a run, hit the park for an hour or two, and then free ride for the day. If you make a mistake on a regular trail whatever, if you make a mistake in the park you are getting hurt. My first day this year was 4 hours without a break and it felt really short. I also play a sport at school so my legs are relatively in shape, just the little control muscles are dead at the start of the year.

Ernie rolling over - Taos to allow Snowboards
method9455 replied to Johnny Law's topic in General Chat
Interesting, I'm glad they opened it for the local boarders because there are not many mountains near Taos for them. That being said, if I'm buying a plane ticket to go somewhere I've got Whistler, all of Utah, all of Colorado, Mammoth, Mt Bachelor and Mt Baker on my list ahead of Taos so it will be a long long time before I ever buy a ticket from them. -
Blue certainly is hands down the best for vert hounds, no one will deny that. As soon as the fast trails open I'll be there to get in shape, nothing gets your legs going like lapping a fast trail for 6-8 hours straight.
-
Do you think they will have any of Razors, Challenge, Paradise, Sidewinder open by Wednesday/Thursday? I'm trying decide where to go and Blue's cheap college rate is appealing since I'll be going with friends who don't have season passes.

Now I understand what you mean about Camelback
method9455 replied to darklordofsys's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
The night ice is completely based on the day temperature and sun that day. If you go on a night where it was 20 all day, cloudy, with no wind, night riding will be fine. Go on a night when it was 40 during the day with sun, then at night it gets to 20 and its windy, forget it. The snow gets soft/wet during the day, freezes at night, bam ice. I wouldn't compare night conditions at different places they are invariably difficult. But basically, stay on the trails and learn how to deal with ice. You will be much better for it.
