I wish. Last year, ripped spleen. Last weekend, spent the weekend in the hospital with my grandfather. This weekend, a funeral for my grandfather. Next week, two jobs interviews. Not exactly my choice. Thats why I spend my time on here, its about the close I've been getting lately.

It must be something about PA, you guys are CRAZY for the stuff you like. I live with an Eagles/Phillies/76ers fan and it blows me away. I fear for my life every time the Giants beat them.
-
Ah ha, don't like to so much now do you. I like blue a lot but you guys spend forever ripping on JFBB for being short and Camelback for being crappy park/crappy lifts/policies/whatever that its fun to show all the blue fanboys how ridiculous it is.

The kid who nutted himself on the end didn't look too happy about it

No idea on the lodges, I've never been inside either. I think I walked through the bottom one at Blue to buy a ticket once because their ticket window is/was on the inside. I dunno, when I go to a hill to ride, I ride all day. Food/drinks/color of the carpet really doesn't phase me. If there was a shack with tickets and no food I would be perfectly happy anyway. No one says Blue has to open with all that crap but Blue's own management. They could open with two dozen people working and no food/lodge if they wanted to just get people on the hill, but they don't want to do that. Boulder does. It is that simple. I'll take the place that is about the skiing first please. As for the temperature difference, 1) how could you be in both places at the same time. 2) Are you judging it by what your car says? Because thats not all that accurate 3) 9 degrees is rediculous 4) water temperature plays a huge part 5) as does equipment. 6) If it is a 9 degree difference between Blue and Boulder, it is a 20 degree difference between Boulder and Mountain Creek, which is just not the case, if it were Mountain Creek would never be able to make snow. Maybe it happened once, but on average, Boulder is NOT 9 degrees colder than Blue. But fine, we'll say it is utterly impossible for them to open at the same time as Boulder - which is probably true even if they had equal equipment becuase there is SOME temperature difference, and the water is usually colder at Boulder and JF, once they're open they should get enough time to lay down a big base because the mountains don't blow snow for 100% of the time during the season when they could. Then where is Blue's superior season? If they lay down so much snow why aren't they last to close? And if they're not last to close, and they consistently have the worst surface condition, doesn't that make their snowmaking system suck? By my scorecard, they are open later or same as other places, have worse conditions, and close same as or earlier than other places. That is not a superior snowmaking, that is average at best.
-
I don't think Blue can claim its strong snowmaking system anymore. Making a lot of snow doesn't count if the surface sucks and their season isn't any longer. They're opening a month later, and I Laurentian they won't be the last to close. If you want to say they have an excellent snowmaking system that puts out quantity over quality, they better be open later than everyone else. At this point, temperature is not an excuse they have had temperatures, and they will have it. So why don't they lay down enough snow to last as long as others? Why aren't they rolling out terrain at the pace others are? How long till the good trails under the 6 pack get open? What upgrades are they going to do for the new trails, or will it take even longer to open that stuff? And sure JFBB has 2-4 degrees on you guys, but they opened a trail with a 24-48 hour window of snowmaking, Blue wasn't able to do that when they got 48-72 hours a few weeks ago. And yea they have to go for a longer trail, but Blue has such a good snowmaking system you would think they could ONE trail. They don't even open on the taller side anyway, what is the difference between the side that is open at blue now and the side that opened at Boulder on the first weekend? 300 feet? So we're talking probably 10 - 12 guns? Is that a huge difference? Not really. And they still have the older style guns which lay down inferior snow, no question. Sure it is an investment to install them, but you can't tell me the top of razors/challenge wouldn't benefit from them, or sidewinder, or paradise, giant wide open trails that just beg for fan guns. They probably could have used that instead of the 6 pack and it would pay off with better snow quality. When you read the reports from even the fan boys, Blue has death cookies and ice more than anyone else in PA. As for trails themselves, the ones at Blue beat JFBB without question. The 3 or 4 trails on east mountain are more fun than any single trail at Blue because they have some character to them, you have some turns and some dips, and they are a little steeper than the ones at Blue. But in the end, they are only 600 feet and at the end you have a slow double to get back up. You can definately get a lot more turns per day at Blue off the high speed quads. Challenge, Razors, and Paradise are just great trails. They are kind of straight and wide open, but they are endlessly fun. I don't really know the shorter side of the mountain that well. The park is fine at Blue, I wouldn't go just for the park when there are 2 other mountains (Boulder and Mountain Creek) about the same distance for me that are way better, but it isn't a detractor either. Camelback is kind of halfway in between the two. Narrower trails, more curves and dips, some spots that are steeper than blue and some that are less. They still have high speed lifts. You can't get as much vert per hour but I feel there is more variety to it than Blue. They also have better grooming and snow than blue. But their park blows horribly, it makes me not want to go there because I know I won't do any park. This time of year, I like JFBB best. Come mid january, I would take blue overall as my favorite, with Camelback to mix it up with non-park riders, and do my park at Boulder, and end of the year i'll be back at Boulder since everywhere else will be closed.

Sleet + Snow = Dust on Crust. Hopefully you will get a lot more snow than sleet. We have straight rain in Newark, DE. Mail all your rain down here we'll take it, just snow up at the mountains please.

Yea first time I looked down it last year I got that wow this is steep feeling for the first time in about 5 years. Too bad it didn't have snow on it at the time, I can't wait to try it this year.

I like the 50-50 to land 90, thats style right there. I never understood how/why boxes got sticky but I hate that shit

Morning Report for Wednesday December 12, 2007

Friday at 12, if thing go according to plan, Belleayre on Sunday, JFBB on wednesday/thursday of next week. I have job interviews monday, tuesday and friday in the city though so I think those days are shot. -
Mmm poor example that is exactly his point. JFBB HAS a park designer, Sno doesn't. Sure doesn't change the fact that he came in here flaming but that is kind of the name of the game. Go in Camelback's forums and look and see if you guys have it bad. At least you guys are getting flamed now, no one bother criticizing unless they feel threatened.
-
hell yes, its finals week and i don't have one till friday, what am I going to do? study? if only I had my board here I would go riding today.

If he has big feet then they could be off center. I have 12.5's so I'm in the same boat. You want the bindings as close to the toe side edge as you can get them without having your toes drag in the snow. How close is that? Trial and error. For now, keep them centered. With big feet most of your force is coming down on the heelside edge if you have them centered, so heelside turns are easier. Plus, when you are doing a heelside turn you have the highback to push against. So anything you can do to make the toeside turns easier makes it more balanced. Also, when he is riding, keep your shoulders in line with the board. If you have your shoulder perpendicular to the board (a skier reflex, often people coming over from skiing do it, I'm guilty of it) then your board will constantly be trying to do heelside turns. So kind of lower your front shoulder and look more towards your toe edge, your body will follow.

If you snowboard, you have to be an aggressive person. If you aren't, then you would never have the balls to try the shit we do. Add a bunch of aggressive people and their opinions in an internet forum and people fight. End of story.

I'm ending up doing them at Mount Snow. Mountain creek I would have to pay $49 a day for lift tickets + lessons, which means I have to either do it all in one day (bad idea, I would get hurt) or shell out a bunch for lift tickets. Blue & Camelback are better, but I can't imagine spending money at Camelback for anything park related. Blue was a maybe but still, I have to buy at least $60 in lift tickets. JFBB didn't seem to have much of a program. Mount Snow, I will already be buying the lift tickets, I can spread it out over 4 days, and they have a program for it, it should be good.

That is true. There are two binding adjustments I can think of that might cause this, but 99% of the time it is in his head. These only apply if he has large feet. The first one moves the bindings from edge to edge, if they are off center then this might happen. Just put the boots in the board without him in the boots, and look at it from one end. If the boots looked centered then its fine. The other is the highback adjustment. That is the part behind the boot that is vertical. There will be a little wedge near the bottom of it, usually you have to twist a little lever and you can adjust it. Push them all the way back so it is max vertical. That makes it less responsive, you don't want high response until you are confident in your riding.

You actually have good points when you critique videos you just need to soften your delivery this is basically people's art, some people paint some people film you know
-
Ha I know right. They sent me some videos and I was like damn it you guys act like all the rest, trying to hit the park before you know how to ride well. I'll straighten them out when I start riding with them in a few weeks.

Woah we all know the first storm of the year gets over hyped and under delivers, every time. I'm saying 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch. And then I'll be really stoked when its more. -
Two of my friends are going but I don't know what they are wearing. if you see two asians fumbling around trying to learn 50-50s, thats them. One has a rome machine and one has a ride timeless.

Will Boulder Go 100% Before anyone else is open?
method9455 replied to Papasteeze's topic in General Chat
Yea but 33mpg + actual pickup is nice. My brothers accord took 9 years to get to 60. The mazda is good at 0-60 but awesome from 40-80 and that is a lot more fun anyway. -
hes just a troll
-
Is that the same split rock that had a little ski hill with a T Bar way back?
-
5 miles? You get off 80 at the same exit, head right about 2 mile for JF, left at the exit for 2 miles to get to Boulder.
