That disappointing on a lot of fronts. I thought they had plenty of snow at JF? And if there is such a base on BB your saying its going to melt away in the sun all week just to have it (partially) open on the weekends. I can accept pretty much all of it except that some trails will be closed when there will be enough snow left on them to ride late season. If you already have the lifts running, plow out the jumps on merry widow and open it as free ride open to ease up the crowding on boulder park, I sniff some camelback style coddling here.

Eh I disagree with you there - don't defend it just because it is your 'home' mountain. I finally bailed on Mountain Creek after being a pass holder for 5 years. The difference is that I bitched and complained about my home mountain on their forum all the time and sometimes it helped and sometimes it didn't. The park crew definately listened to everyone talking on there, but above them no one really did. So if you bitched about a rail having a crappy setup it got fixed in a day or two, if you bitched about not getting enough snow in the park - nothing happened. Everyone who wasn't from MC used to come and be like THIS IS AWESOME when they went through the park, and all the locals would complain cuz it could be better. We always knew that the year before they had a better jump here or a better setup here. If you put together the best feature from every one of the last 5 or 6 years there it would be the #1 park in the country, they just never had enough snow to put them all up at once. So we always complained even though we came back year after year. Looks like the opposite here - all the CB locals defend it, all the people visiting rip on it. Its your pass man, buying a pass doesn't mean you have to take what they give you and be happy with it, everything can always be improved. It just depends where the priorities are - I don't think Camelback's priority is the park. I'm not saying it should be, it would be stupid if every mountain went all park or even their main feature was the park. Then you would just have people running all over the parks. I think Camelback should focus on progresion sized parks instead of trying to build up the bigger stuff - its just not attracting anyone so either do it right or don't do it at all.

Well I don't think the lift having technical problems/wind issues are Camelback's managements fault. Especially now - the lift was installed in the mid 90's, a decade ago. How many of the people involved in that decision are still around? Probably not many. I think it looks like poor engineering, meaning site considerations, and that would not be Camelback's fault. However anything can be fixed if enough money is thrown at the problem so either they need to buy a new lift or get the engineers back in to figure out how to get it running more often. Maybe cut back on the Camelbeach investments and buy a new lift. I wouldn't blame them for trying to keep their customers safe if the lift is having a bunch of problems - but the amount of time it is down is not normal.
-
Whatever the reason for all of Camelback's lift closures it is unacceptable, no one else has these problems. The exposure of the lift is not an excuse for closing it - it is an example of bad engineering. Engineering doesn't mean designing nuts and bolts but the whole situation. The wind didn't randomly come the last 2 years, it is the same every year. The snow/ice is inherent to lift operations and I refuse to believe it is a factor since so many other places run lifts in snow. (And what would it do? The coefficent of friction can't change that much in comparison to the force being applied by the clamp on the cable, I could see it is clogging up the mechanisms, then you need a new mechanism for a lift thats used for SKIING) Maybe they should invest in fixing the issues involved, whether it requires planting some trees to block wind up top or new grip mechanism or something, but it seems like there are more issues at CB than anywhere else.

The best part is we were joking "what will they do next close the lifts becuase of snow! haha" and then its like - we actually are closing the lifts for snow. Maybe they read our sarcastic comments just to come with new ideas. That is beyond ridiculous, its just sad.

From their perspective its "these damn snowboarders stole my trail" not the "these damn gappers are going to get me killed" that the park rats feel. I can see it both ways but honestly - they are a danger to themselves and the riders in the park and thats what makes me mad. You can't even say they don't know it becuase there have been a number of times I tried explaining it to people and their response is always I'll ride where I want. Then when they take a kid off on a sled because he got hit in the head with a board and needs a bunch of stiches daddy calls up the lawyer and starts sueing instead of remembering the time he got warned stuff like this will happen.

Yea there has to be some sort of penalty or people will scam it. At mountain creek they don't scan passes but they charge for a replacement if you lost lost it, and I dont know what the policy is if you just forgot it at home - i keep mine attached to my pants and my pants are the only piece of gear i have just one of so its impossible for me to snowboard without bringing it. Season pass restrictions are a fine line because on one hand you want to keep your core customers happy but on the other hand you have to prevent people from beating the system and losing money.

One of the coolest events every year is when you bust out the bbq and hike the park on the last weekend of the year. its kind of like having a park in your back yard, those events sound fun.

I have no idea how much I go through in a season but I generally use Swix (because its what we buy in bulk for the shop), all temperature for most of the winter around here, warm wax for the end of the year (from about now to the end probably), and try to match the temperature I'm expecting the night before I head out on a trip west/north. Once in a while I use fluoro and I can feel the difference but generally its overkill for me becuase the limiting factor on my speed is the people I'm riding with not the wax.

Ah man this is the features I've been wanting to try out for like 2-3 seasons since I saw it in a few videos when they built it at Northstar. Damn it I wish I could get to bear creek right now. Shawnee had a getto one last year, like 2 foot gap on, 25 foot long, 2 foot gap off, and even that was fun.

jonesys is suppose to be the big one this year it just took them a while to get it going, now its huge

I'll be getting mine soon. I'm only getting a weekday to JFBB and then a full pass to Blue because Blue is closer to me at school but I'm off from Dec 15th-Feb 7th next year so I can ride midweek at JFBB which is closer to my house. I'm always looking to ride with pasrs because most of my friends are too broke to ride often.

Mountain Creek will close South & Bear this weekend for the season so get out and ride it before it does, Sunday is the last day. Granite & Vernon will continue to be open but only 9-5 during the week and 9-9 on the weekends. They have hours until the 19th, but they say "maybe open until APril 1st" - we'll see. Just a warning before someone heads up expecting them to be open to the normal 10pm, or to have all 4 peaks open (despite having plenty of base on South they don't have enough people to keep it open)

Yea that shot reminded me of the mammoth mountain patio handrail that gets shot a million times, in a good way. I thought about hitting it myself earlier this year but there wasn't enough snow at the time. I think my favorite part was that there were some legit shots of jumps and spins, so many videos are just jibs and that doesn't get my attention as much as a good mix.
-
Not to come across as hostile (cuz its not) - who are steve and evan and where is the video? I've seen a lot of videos from creek from tank/ahi and some of wezlo's earlier stuff and some others posted here and this impressed me more than any of the other ones from around here but i'd like to see other stuff if its out there
-
Well, it sucks you missed out on a little but at least it was nothing. I got hit by the opposite of that when I thought it was nothing and it turned out to be real serious and I haven't been snowboarding in 2 months, where as last year I had 35 days. So atleast you'll get more days in this year.
-
Wow I can't say it wasn't coming but they fell pretty hard pretty fast. It would be hard to do worse than ASC - although Intrawest tries at Mountain Creek.
-
Ha no joke Mountain Creek is closing 2 peaks this weekend. Just another reason why I (and many others) are not getting seasons passes there next year. I would love to see the season pass sales this year vs next year.
-
Will it still be like that next year? The 3pm opening is the #1 thing that bums me about about Big Boulder. I understand why the do it but honestly if they said like fridays we open Big Boulder all day that would be sweet because I want to hit those parks daylight without the weekend crowd. Friday a lot of college kids have off and they could get an OK crowd. Even if they only some lifts I would be ok with that, you really only need 1 by Freedom and 1 for widow/boulder. They would probably break even on that and make a lot of people happy.
-
people definately hiked mountain creek into april/may on the shady side of the terrain park up until last year. then last year the park crew pushed all the snow out flat at the end of the year - why they spent the time/gas to do it only says to me liability insurance made them do it. Otherwise why bother? but before that people used to go up and session the jumps after the season was over. The jibs usually don't even make it to the end of the season they start pulling them out when the feet show. But a table top jump will last a while and you can make a new lip by yourself with a shovel, shovel a 2 foot wide in run and your golden.

I totally agree on liking Camelback, it was the only place I went with my dad/brother for the last 4 years out of the poconos - even though I had a free season pass elsewhere. It has the best real skiing near me, and I've always found their snow quality to be very good. Lift lines are generally acceptable even on the weekends. However I would never cross the line from weekend trip with my dad to season pass holder because of all their issues - which is my main complaint. Would I rather have a season pass to Camelback than buying one to JFBB (which is further away, and only good for park) and one to Blue (which is further away and only good for freeriding) of course. And thats why I complain so loudly, becuase it would be so much more advantageous to combine the mountain I ride park at, the mountain I ride with my friends at, and the mountain I ride with my family at. Its not "hating" Camelback, I really don't even have any ill will towards their management. I don't like all of their decisions but they're hardly evil people. I think the WORST management is at Mountain Creek - that place is rediculous. People are complaining that Camelback closes 1 lift some days - Mountain Creek only opened 1/2 of the mountain for 6 weeks this season - and only half days at that. They are closing south/bear this weekend, and they opened last week of January I believe. As for reps - generally it is a personal thing. Mountain Creek it goes on and off (even though they have their own internet forum) based on who is working. Generally it is the park crew that posts on there now and then, depending on how busy they are. But what forum does - go to teton gravity or epic ski - much bigger boards and they don't have reps. I don't think their is a healthier region specific board than here. The only one that came close was the Mountain Creek one before snowboard.com crashed for 4 months and the community dispersed.

Really? You have a short term memory. Might want to get that checked out. As for why I think he works for Camelback - he joined TODAY, but has a name that mocks one of our regular members. Obviously he reads here a lot. But he doesn't write like a troll. I think there is some astroturfing on this board, and this is a prime example of it. As for me being a dick, I think the post I just threw at you a moment ago was the last mature one I've ever thrown out at someone. And your response to it includes the word "douchenozzle" (creative) and a "knotted tampon string" reference. As for me (and since you used the 2nd person don't say you are not referring to me, if you wanted to point to Papa it would have been 3rd person) being a 'tool' - please do enlighten me on how to live a life. I obviously have failed your standards, if your definition of living correctly is not posting on an internet forum often. I guess schools/grades/activites/sports/relationships mean nothing - daily post count on paskiandride.com is the measure. On a side note - arguing with people like you has done a lot for me in my life, so I'll continue doing it. Whether its the satisfaction of getting something changed for the better, giving my opinion in front of a thousand people (about a dozen times now) or getting a job becuase my future boss was impressed by my ability to debate Rush Limbaugh, arguing with others is basically my passion. I should be a lawyer but I don't want to represent criminals, don't want to make the money of a prosecutor, can't fathom dealing with frivolous civil suits, and don't perceive a big market for constitutional lawyers so instead I'm going to be an engineer. Theres not much debate in engineering - so I'm here arguing with people like you (as well as some other forums). As for why I dis like you and your opinions so much. 1) Your name sticks out so you come up a lot 2) You made fun of Papa's son, I don't know the kid but seriously - thats low 3) You never contribute anything positive 4) Whenever you attack anyone you curse and ask rhetorical questions which is a sign of weakness 5) It's fun to get you mad 6) (and most importantly) you struck a nerve with your "stop complaining" lines. I really dislike (politically) when people say anything along the lines of don't complain/our government knows best/they know better than us etc etc. People talk about fighting for freedom - and then try to interfere with free political speech and true debate of ideas. Although you may not like how some people say them, there are a lot of legitimate points being made here, and a lot of people saying them constructively (or at least civilly). Basically your position defines what I perceive as whats wrong with America. Whether you are republican, democrat, libertarian, socialist, or green - if you tell me to stop talking about something that I think is wrong - I respect that less than someone who completely opposes my opinion but will debate it. Imagine how great this country could be if the majority of people didn't have such an apathetic attitude?

Check It Wow Wezlo thats the best video from our region I've seen since the internet started getting covered in them. After all the ones I've seen it took 3 years to top the Tank video from Mountain Creek but that was nasty, great riding, great flow, good editing, I liked the music, lots of different features/shots, no amateur feel to the editing (i.e. too long on the credits) it was great. i've seen all your other ones but that tops it. And bonus on top - its on fucking Transworld - and read the comments, thats the least negative feedback on a video clip I've ever seen on that site, which is saying something because it is swamped with trolls. Good work
