    Soften my board?

Hmm, I dunno if it would work, but what if you took 3 cinderblocks, set it up with one under each end, and then put one in the middle to get flex it through the middle a bit. Burton does that for their infinity ride boards with a machine, the boards start with like 3" camber and they flex them backwards to soften them up, to a point where they will never soften further. Just put like a blanket over each block so it doesn't scratch up your board. Leave it for a day or two and see what happens. Never tried this, but its an idea.

    Jib board

Sorry, your right. It is the forum street dweller that doesn't have edges. My shop doesn't carry capita so beyond the bsod I don't really know their boards.
  3. Just throwing this out there to clarify, but aren't LAST years the white/blue you want? I'm almost certain my shop sold out of them, but I'll check on thursday for you.

    Jib board

-----Jib Boards------- I HATED my Ride Kink. With an absolute passion. Great for butters, presses, rails. Horrible for riding. It is exactly as they advertised, just not my type of board. I don't like Dominants for their base material. The K2 WWW is like a Kink, great for rails, probably even better than the Kink, but not great for everything else. I like the Artifact, but again, not as great all around, better than the WWW and the Kink. ----Softer Park Boards ----- Rome Agent Ride DH K2 Darkstar Burton Twin Burton Jeremy Jones -----Stiffer Park Boards ---- GNU Danny Kass Rome Anthemn Arbor Mystic K2 Willie Burton Custom GNU TRS GNU Altered Genetics I wouldn't count the Stairmaster, it doesn't have metal edges. I personally would say pick one of the boards from the bottom two catagories and you will be happier. If you do 100% rails, take the first. If you do 70% park, 30% freeriding, or even 50% Pipe/Jumps and 50% rails, I would take from the second category. If you do 50% park, 50% all over, or 60% pipe/jumps, 40% jibs, take from the 3rd. I personally take from the third and I'm always happy.
  5. Oakley and Anon are sick, everything else just doesn't keep up. I have Anon Figments but I wouldn't mind Oakley A Frame or the Oakley Wisdom, but I got a deal on the Anon's and have no reason at all to replace them.
  6. T9 bindings are great. Not sure about the boards, but hey who can hate on a free board? My $50 Burton Jeremy Jones rides great and I don't feel bad about beating it up, unlike my GNU Altered Genetics, which is like sex on snow but I feel so bad beating up a $650 board I rarely use it.
  7. Anyone going? I'll probably be mostly at Jack Frost again. I might start at big boulder in the AM and switch over to Frost. My theory is that the park gets really busy at boulder, but most park rats don't get up there for first chair. I'll rip some park early, head over to groomers as the crowd builds, switch mountains after lunch. Burn up east mountain for a bit in the afternoon, hit Jack Frost's park before closing, and head home at like 4. Word of rain/snow, but I believe it will be all snow up there. The usual gear, red jacket, gray pants, white helmet, white checkerboard goggles, (new) white pipe gloves. Burton Mission bindings, and Burton Jeremy Jones board (really enjoying & beating the shit out of, that board)
  8. I hate ripping on spelling but come on the word idiot? If you were making a trip report and you spelled something wrong I wouldn't care. If you are calling me and idiot, and can't even spell it, I'm going to say something. Don't try to call me dumb when I end up writing grammatically correct posts 90% of the time. Start by sounding intelligent and then try to debate me on what I'm saying, otherwise no one will take you seriously. See the Thursday 12/21 thread, as well as the pictures of it and video. The ramp is unnecessarily wide and high for such a short rail and it just feels awkward to me. If the ramp had a 30 foot rail, fine. But it doesn't. I know for sure that it wouldn't happen that way with the two of them running the place. I have seen every rail setup for every park, contest, Grand Prix event, for the last 4 years, and never have they setup something like that. It isn't a big deal, but it proves that its not the same. Merry Widow was planned before they left. If you think the rails they banged out in a few weeks were the be all, end all, of their jib making, you don't know their work. That was the small stuff. I really hate beating a dead horse here, because I know the two are not going back. I think at this point even if JFBB offered them the job back they wouldn't go back. JFBB made them look like fools to all of their industry connections, who end up sponsoring this park based on their involvement. How do you think the sponsors feel? I'm just not going to let a bunch of people (2 of the people arguing against me in these forums are employees at JFBB) who aren't customers, have the last word on this issue. Especially when there was NO OFFICIAL WORD AT ALL. (Although they did address some of our concerns for sure)
  9. I'm glad to be an "idoit", although I'm not quite sure what that is. Maybe I "baught" one one time? The point of the matter is false advertising. And to say that this park has been running exactly as if the ParkLogic guys were there is incorrect. I would point to the first rail in the "One Park" as example #1. That is not a Shawn/Julian setup, and I don't like it. I've been riding their setups for four years, and I'm used to them. Never would they have setup a rail like that. It seems small, but it is a sign of how things are going to go. Maybe you like it that way, thats fine. But there is a reason I'm driving 30 minutes further each way and paying a lot more money (JFBB doesn't give discounts to shop employees, I can ride Mountain Creek for $100 for a full season pass, I've already surpassed that at JFBB for lift tickets). I didn't make that decision based on anything other than the two going. If this were about the quality of the park, then why was the headline of the press release for this season from that company, that TWO OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD WERE COMING. It was mis-leading. If you can't differentiate between the two separate arguments, then STOP trying to disagree with us. You do not understand the point, that decisions were made, based on advertisements and promises. Whether or not YOU are happy with what is up there now, that does not relate to the fact that what was promised, and what has been delivered, are two different things. The promise was that Shawn and Julian would run a park up to THEIR stands. The promise was NOT that Shawn and Julian would make sweet jibs, and someone else would set them up. I think the setup is 80% what makes a good park, the quality of the jibs 20%. And guess what, none of the people asking me where to go are riding park. But they are the ones who pay for our park. Do you think the jibs are paid for by all the kids running around with youth tickets/college tickets/season passes are paying for them? Maybe a chunk of it. Maybe the park rats are the growth on the bottom line this year. But the bread and butter of every mountain are families with kids. They come and pay for 2 adult tickets, a few kids tickets. They rent equipment, and they buy food in the lodge. While you are hanging out in the park, realize you are seeing the same people all the time. For every kid that comes in to a shop and knows a 50-50 from a board slide and might want to try both some day, there are a twenty or more who will never ever go in the park. Not to mention you make an assertions as if it was a fact: -You say it will be the same as if ParkLogic was there, it may be close, it might even be better, but it certainly won't be the same, that would be impossible But here is a fact: Anyone with a season pass for this year, can not get their money back, and are stuck with a different hand dealt to them than was advertised. And THAT is the bottom line.
  10. If you ordered a truck with a Hemi, it said Hemi on the back but when you lifted up the hood there was a 4 cylinder, but they took your money already, how would you feel? And maybe they are better off not being there, but maybe we were better off with them there. What action can you take to have someone hired? A boycott would be stupid, ticket sales fluctuate so much it wouldn't matter to them. I do take some action. I've been working all week at the ski shop, I've sent a dozen or so families to Blue mountain over JFBB, where had they not fired the two I would have sent them to JFBB. So, who knows, but I have certainly sent a few hundred dollars in lift tickets elsewhere in the past week.
  11. Well I'd like to point a few things out that must have gone over the head of someone who spells like - "incrediable" "supposivly" "crusify " I hate to pull out the grammar argument, but if you are going to try to disagree with the dozens and dozens of posts here you should at least try to do it with some level of intelligence. I realize you work there, but none of our anger was directed at the park crew and their work. Our anger is two fold. One, the park/park scene won't be what it was with Shawn and Julian there. Two, one thing was promised to us, and another delivered. Even if the park IS great (which I think it is), names were dropped, money exchanged hands, and then those named were kicked out. Had they kicked them out at the end of the season that would have been OK, but we paid for season passes to a mountain they were advertised to work at, and got nothing back in return. The park is great, the business behind it is shady.
  12. JF is legit this year, the park is equal to merry widow, a little short on jibs but the jumps are really nice. So I guess holiday lift ticket prices. Does that mean the tuesday college discount applies still?
  13. I agree, lower it a bit for everyone else, and the people who have music of there own. I like riding with my own music, certain songs make me ride much better. I think the only park that needs it is the Freedom park. That is kind of the vibe park, lots of people hiking and hanging out. The other parks are more flow type parks, people doing top to bottom runs for the most part, can't really hear the music over the wind when you are going fast anyway.
  14. Only problem with Ipods - the batteries die fast in the cold. I had the Mini and it became a problem. I like the Creative because it was super cheap so if I break it, I don't care, and it uses AAA batteries so you can carry 2 and it lasts like 15 hours each (in normal weather), in cold weather I bet like 8 or 9 per battery. My Ipod went from like the usual 10 down to like 4, and as the battery died over the season it eventually could go like 30 minutes which sucked. Now it can't last through a song even in normal weather, but its plugged into my car all the time so it is not really portable anymore anyway.
  15. I agree with the music thing. Just turn it off. I've never been to a mountain where it added anything to the park at all. You will never get the music right for everyone. If you want to ride with music, head over to ebay. I spent $30 for a Creative Zen Nano, it is the size of 2 AAA batteries, 1/2 gb, bought it last week. Spend 4 dollars for earbuds or hook up the helmet. Head out for $40 and have whatever music you want, the whole package weighs like 5 ounces even if you bring an extra battery, less than my car keys. It was great today with my own music. And shadows is right, there are some features missing from that list, BUT i think they are going in overnight
  16. Ok so went up today, Jack Frost in the morning, Big Boulder in the afternoon. Have some pictures on the camera I'll put in tomorrow. Jack Frost (9:30-2:30) -Worked from the west side over to the east side, did each trail once. Good snow across the whole mountain, no dirt spots/rocks anything. They blew snow last night on open trails, and unopened trails. The snow started a little slow and firm. As the day heated up it got broken up into softer stuff, kind of corn but not quite warm enough for that, just soft and smooth really. Great conditions. No bumping up because it wasn't too busy (mostly beginners actually and I was on east mountain and One Park the most). East mountain (I've never seen it before) is hell of a lot of fun. Not sure what run I did, its the only one open, but it equals Challenge/Razors for me in terms of fun. It has those 3 drops that are great, narrow with a drop off on the right side for a little excitement. I saw glades up there that looked really fun if they get snow, and there are some sweet locations for jumps that land on the trail which was fun too. -Hit up the intro park once there, I remember a flat box and a small jump. There might have been more but it was short, it is a fun run though. -Spent most of my time split between east mountain the One Park. -One Park: Starts off with two rollers. There aren't the barrel jibs they mentioned but they could be putting them up this afternoon. The first thing up is a wide downslope rail. I really hated it. The rail is straight and smooth, but I think it is new? Or there is paint on top? But I have paint all over the bottom of my (new) board from that rail and it sucks. It needs to be scraped off by more people. I think my board will be okay after a scraping (if not I'll throw it over the base grinder at work for free nice) but still, lame. That, and the ramp for it is HUGE. I mean like, 10 feet wide, and about 2 feet high. I feel like I should be rolling into a 40 foot box but then there is this small as thing there. So you come up this ramp and the whole rail is hidden pretty much. Luckily it is so short you slide the whole thing every time, but its a massive waste of snow. I wasn't big on it and I don't see the point. Its not like you are even going to go wide and 270 or long gap onto the thing, it is so short you get nothing. Then you roll down, 2 step down jumps. I would say they are the same size as the ones at Big Boulder on merry widow (20-25 feet) step downs, with like a 4-5 foot step down. They are REALLY nice. I would say better than the ones at Big Boulder. You go down, small down box or 25 foot flat box, riders choice. That was a good setup. Next, flat rail, 10 foot long with a solid ollie up to it, can't take it straight on. Pretty good setup, I liked it but it took a few tries to get the speed right, not many people were trying it. Next to that is a big open spot for a rail, probably going in tonight. I was very pleased with the park, mostly the jumps. The snow made them very forgiving. Big Boulder - Showed up like 3:20pm - 5:15pm. Hit up merry widow, boulder park, and the freedom park. The snow was bad. Coverage was good on everything but one side of Merry widow where it was more like the cat dragged mud across the snow than anything else. But the sun had beat on the snow all day and it was super firm. It wasn't icy yet but it was slick and turning to ice fast. Not their fault, snow looked DEEP on Boulder Park. Big Boulder - didn't try the 40 footer, no comment on it. I did 3 runs through the park but the snow was really firm and I had been riding for almost 8 hours now, and I had stopped and had pizza, garlic knots, and stromboli. Wasn't really in a mood to fall on a full stomach. Next to the 40 footer was an easy down box, going into a long flat box that was really good. comes around the corner, 2 jump line. The jumps were ok, same size as Jack Frost, less pop on them, shorter landings, and firmer. I think the line at Frost is better but Boulder's isn't bad, the trail just isn't as nice for it. Then at the bottom a battle ship box on the right and a rail on the left. I did the box all 3 times, perfect setup. gap on but not difficult and very mellow across the top. Went over to the freedom park. They replaced on the first left box with that picnic table. Still the same box on the right. Didn't much like the picnic table, caught my edge on it but that is more my board not being too tuned yet, and anything wide it hangs up on. The shape/size was pretty good on it. The box on the right is still nice. Roll into a table with 2 ramps. I was doing the one on the right, seemed to be the same size, like 6-8 feet tops, pops you like 3-4 feet up. Nice to try stuff on. I tried to grab a spin for the first time, got stuck halfway and caught the heelside edge and went for a tumble. Even with the firm snow it didn't hurt so the jump isn't going to hurt you. Then there is the hip thing still, then another identical jump setup. You go down, same 2 down boxes, then 2 flat rails. There is a log QP/spine thing, but I couldn't get enough speed to get over it even taking 2 rails in a row into it, although I could almost get the stall. Probably the paint on the bottom of my board. Bailed on BB when it got crowded/icy. Overall: good riding at JF. BB was ok but the snow got really firm and I was tired so I didn't work it much. Weekend outlook is good, PLENTY of snow, park features for all abilities spread out well. I would maybe like to see that first down rail on JF changed a bit (bigger rail or a smaller ramp), but otherwise, all the setups were nice. I have pictures tomorrow
  17. Ha that was me. Its Kevin Schultz but I guess I didn't sign it and my email address is KSchultz@ so he just used Kurt. I'm glad, because you always see Mount Snow hyped up in magazines, and while they have a really good park as a whole, each individual feature isn't as good as the equivalent from Mountain Creek, Bear Creek, or the ParkLogic jibs. What Mount Snow does have is a lot of snow, straight trails (cough BB/JF), and really good flow between stuff. They also setup their parks by level very well, and really had the whole progression thing down long before anyone else. They had a mini park, a small park, a medium park, and a huge park. No matter who you where, they had a whole park for you. It really separated the crowds out too which was nice. I can't wait to see their big park this year. Oh and I love how they have artists paint the rails, that is pimpin.
  18. When you set your bindings there are basically 6 factors. -Angle of each binding -Width between the bindings -Setback -Forward Lean -Centering -Boot fit Each of them is important, and each of them can make or break a good binding setup. Most people over look the bindings a lot when in reality properly adjusted and good quality bindings can make snowboarding so much more comfortable. Angle - I ride Duck myself, 21 and -18, which is pretty duck but my feet are naturally ducked to begin with. If you strap me into a board that is 18 and -3 (like 90% of the boards out there because it is the 'standard' setup prescribed in binding manuals) I'll break my knees. How did I arrive at those specific angles? Well it takes a lot of experimenting, I brought a tool up with me for a long time and just kept trying them. The one key I would say is when you are strapped into your board, do a deep knee bend all the way down. Then stand straight up. Your knees should be comfortable in this motion. If you sight down your knee, it should be flexing straight in column with your legs when you go down, rather than twisting inwards when you go down. This is tough to get perfectly right. The reason why my angles are perfectly symmetrical - my knees aren't the same. If you have get a footbed with the Align system, there is a laser that shoots up and shows where your knees should be, and my right one is not there. It made it clear why that boot is always different. Width - This is a personal preference thing. People say 'go really wide' for park. I somewhat agree with that. The closer together your feet are, the easier it is to turn the board, but it looks really bad, and isn't the proper way to ride. The farther apart your legs are, the better you can balance on rails. So it would seem really easy to just put them on the outermost holes and go with it for park. BUT - it might not be comfortable for you. AND, the wider apart they are, the less your board bends in a nose/tail press. The bindings make a flat spot and kill that smooth curve on the nose or tail the closer they are, you will feel a big difference. My personal preference for width is as wide apart as you are comfortable with, and just work out your legs more in the off season for those presses because you will have to push much harder, even if it is only a 1/2" - 1" difference. When you combine the right width and angle, it makes all the difference. A little tip for setting up your board for the very first time, put it on the ground and jump on it naturally, bending your knees deep on the way down. Your feet will end up in a pretty natural place. For a more natural stance than that, jump off something higher so you don't think about it on the way down (not your board becuase you will slip and fall), tape where your feet are and measure it. Setback - this means where are you bindings. For powder, you setback a bit from the front. For park, I would center them on the board. Take a measuring tape and see how setback your inserts are, some boards (true twins like my Ride Kink) are perfectly centered. Others (my Altered Genetics and my Jeremy Jones) are setback an inch, so I move my back binding a little forward to get as close to centered as possible. I would recommend this for all East Coast riding unless your board reacts badly to your center of gravity being forward, but so far all the boards I've owned are find centered, and for powder I move back an inch on my back foot. Forward Lean - This is just the little crank on the back of your bindings. For pipe I have a few clicks of forward lean, and for free riding. For primarily jibs/jumps, i keep my high back straight. When it is cranked forward you get tired faster but ride much better, although I find I can balance a little better when the high backs are vertical because you can push the back of your leg a bit differently. So just play with it. Centering - this has to do with what size foot you have. Mens boards are designed for a 9, if you have a 9 your bindings should be centered between the edges. 11, push them towards the heelside a little bit. 7, move them toeside a little bit. Mid wides are usually for a 10-10.5, wide for 11.5. When in doubt, go too far toeside since heelside turns are easier, just watch for toe drag. Some combinations of bindings can't do this (burton on any kind of board other than a burton for example) Boot fit. This is one of the most important and overlooked steps. Make sure when you have your foot in the boot, and all the straps are cranked down, they are centered on your boot. Also, make sure you have the gas pedal stretched out longer or shorter depending on your boot size. A large size binding is generally a 9-13, but most people just leave the gas pedal where it is, which isn't best for a bigger boot. Also check our your binding, older Ride bindings have adjustments on the heel cup to slide them back for bigger boots. Finally, you might want to adjust the high back inline with the back edge of your heelside so you can tweak sideways better. On burton bindings there are 2 screws in a track. On Ride bindings there are 3 holes on each side to adjust it. What kind of bindings do you have? I know a few brands and their adjustments pretty well so I can point you to where the screws are to adjust all of this.. In the end, you could just screw your bindings on there and try to ride, but if you set everything up very well, it is a whole different experiance. When you put your bindings on your board, do you know what every screw does? Every screw on there has a purpose, and if you go over them when you mount it, you will know your gear much better, even if you don't know WHAT to do with them, eventually you'll figure it out. Make sure you take your bindings off for the summer, try to dry them after you ride, and keep them clean so the dirt doesn't get in the screw threads. They will last for years if you take care of them. MAKE SURE YOU BRING A TOOL WITH YOU on the first day after you play with your bindings. No matter how tight you screw it, when everything vibrates, it loosens up. I still haven't found a way around this, I can crank all day with a screw driver but one run, the screws loosen and I have to tighten them, then it never does again for the season.
  19. didn't know where to throw this, but check out Mount Snow's blog: http://www.mountsnow.com/snowblog.html They got my first name wrong, but they had challenged anyone to find a bigger park on the East Coast then theirs right now, so I sent in that JFBB has more stuff up than they do (which is true) so they admitted they were wrong. Nice.
  20. way to hi jack my thread Doug. Although I'll allow it since I'm going out to PC in march, i was stoked this morning when I saw it.
  21. I'll reserve judgment, but I think the rail on top killed the kick ass butter box aspect. If it had a big gap on jump, no rail, was a big butter box, and a long gap to the landing it would be great. Basically it would be a step up jump. Now, I can't tell how wide it is next to that rail but I think spinning onto it with the thought of hitting that rail is very risky.
  22. Got a good amount of snow tonight, 2 feet in Park City, probably more in the other canyons. Anyone out there right now? They've been pretty starved for snow lately.
  23. So I have found I usually hit up Jack Frost first, then drive over to Big Boulder. I stopped at a pizza place on the corner of 940 and 115 that was pretty good last time when I left Jack Frost, but I'm wondering if there is anywhere else for deli sandwiches, burgers, whatever, in between the two mountains to avoid paying a huge amount for food. Edit: A place with a good bacon egg and cheese sandwich would be clutch.
  24. Hey, I am definitely going up to JFBB on Thursday with my girlfriend, possibly some other people too. Jack Frost in the morning, break, Big Boulder in the afternoon. I will have a digital (still) camera, and will probably have some pictures up in this thread thursday night/friday to show how the park is setup. I'll be wearing my red jacket, white helmet, white/black checkerboard goggles, tan pants. If you want to ride with us, just pm me or when I'm up there my name is Kevin. See you guys out there, can't wait to see Merry Widow's jumps. Kevin
  25. I agree with that, but I won't be up this weekend. I'll be snowboarding on Monday, but how many people are up there on mondays? In the future, I will do that. The percentage of people at Paskiandride.com versus the general riding public is very very small
