  1. Wow that backflip was nuts. I definitely would not be able to do that, I wouldn't even think about it without more snow in the landing.
  2. they definitely were forced to leave against their will. And itd be one thing if they fired two nameless park crew. They fired the two guys that they made a huge deal about earlier in the season. They at least owe us a new plan to replace the old one. All that it appears to be right now is someone with more power than those two, had his ego stepped on, and a lot of customers got shafted to pet that guys ego.
  3. Oh my god a ski area that gets it.
  4. Nope, no explanations. So far a little heresy, not even an acknowledgment on the main website they are cut although the press release disappeared.
  5. Yea I remember March like 2 or 3 seasons ago there was this upslope 3" wide rail at Mountain Creek, it had like a 1 foot overhang. My friend and I hit it all morning, came back after lunch and the lip had melted, and my friend came up low and took the rail to his hip at a lot of speed since it was upslope and it looked so painful I can't even describe it, when it gets sunny they melt fast.
  6. The first two rails are nice, the 3rd one (round bar) looks like it's setup really well. Not sure about the S rail, looks smooth but scary with the legs and no skirting, thats a leg breaker. The staircase is super tight. Props for getting so much setup with such crappy weather. Looks like the coverage is ok right now but looks thin, I hope the weather doesn't treat you too bad. Oh and Nick I bet they're high right now because they are going to melt like crazy over the next few days, if they start too low and melt you'll be screwed because you can't really build them up much without a snowcat so it has to last all day.
  7. It probably won't bring Shawn and Julian back, but it will show that the error in their decision, and that is good for us in the long run. They need to realize the vision they marketed this fall, actually needs to be followed through on.
  8. You DO NOT have to sign your real name if it makes you uncomfortable I wrote that they don't have to but its at the bottom, but I don't mind throwing mine out there since a google search of my name already yields a few newspaper articles about me,my email addresses, my high school, my college, my dorm address, my political views, and even back to PAskiandride. Pretty much everything short of my phone number and home address. Google yourself, it is a little scary.
  9. I obviously will sign it as well (to make the reply count match), Kevin Schultz
  10. Dear Jesse Boyd, Manager of Jack Frost and Big Boulder Resorts, It is with great disappointment that I write this petition. Those undersigned here are not the disadvantaged of the world so I feel somewhat embarrassed to have devoted this much effort towards a seemingly consequential issue. However, I feel a wrong has been committed by your company against the customers who support your resort. The sport we love requires cooperation with companies like Peak unlike most activities. Our experience is at the whim of constant business decisions. Every year we must make our own decision as to where to spend our hard earned money. This is based upon the previous years, and promises of future upgrades. This past fall, your company made large promises. The press release that your company put out on September 6th, 2006, promised “Shawn Orecchio and Julian Arendarski [of Mountain Creek’s Jiblab] will be responsible for developing the MidAtlantic’s most progressive and innovative terrain park program to date.” (Emphasis mine.) Everything appeared to be following your plan. I commend you for opening first, and with so much snow. I had never visited your resort prior to this year but already this season I have visited Jack Frost once and Big Boulder twice. Already I had begun writing a letter commending Peak on well things are being run. The snow was exceptional considering the weather, and the ParkLogic crew had made great progress in the park. Suddenly, this all changed. I opened a message telling me that your company had let Shawn and Julian go. While I do not know them personally, I can not overstate my deep disappointment with your company’s decision. I can tell you that no matter what your reason, there is no one that can say this move was in your customers’ best interest. The only effect this decision could have on the terrain park, was to make it less innovative, less exciting, and of a lower quality than it otherwise would have been. The Federal Trade Commission describes a deceptive advertising statement as one that is “likely to mislead consumers acting reasonable under the circumstance; and is “material” – important to a consumer’s decision to buy or use a product.” I can think of no greater example of deceptive advertising than your September 6th press release. More than a few people, including myself, had made decisions to come to your resort based upon the creation of ParkLogic and the employment of Shawn and Julian. I have seen their work at Mountain Creek, and believed that combined with your resort’s snowmaking, and the commitment of its management, the best terrain park in this area would be built. Your own press release specifically touted their personal skills, their personal commitment, and their own personal experience. Now that they are no longer working for your resort, these factors are gone. Yet, the consumers who decided to buy season passes are left with a bill for hundreds of dollars, for a product that is NOT what was originally described. It is impossible for you to say that Shawn and Julian could have imparted all of their knowledge upon your terrain park staff, when a large number had never been created, and anything larger than a flat box set up by them. More over, the two brought a certain intangible element that clearly has not been replaced since their firing. Thus, I feel that you have completely misled your customers, and left your resort with a product that is inferior to that which was promised to us. The FTC is not going to investigate this matter, but I would like to know what your company is going to do to mend your customers’ angst. Peak Resort’s own website declares “What sets Peak Resorts apart, is the spirit, pride, determination, commitment, passion, and integrity that is the integrity behind everything we do.” I would like to know what part of pride, commitment, passion, or integrity led to firing the two most influential figures in the MidAtlantic terrain park scene. From here, there is obviously a problem for your company. There are over 1400 visits to the discussion where a group of us have unanimously decried this decision. Realize that number represents the most passionate of your customer base. The type of people that advise everyone in their network of friends on where to spend their weekend skiing. More personally, I spend my winter working at a ski shop, where dozens of people ask where to take their family every winter. My initial answer this season had been to send people to your resort, but after this experience where I feel cheated, I don’t believe I can any longer. You have angered your most loyal, and most vocal, supporters. Dozens of us followed these two men from Mountain Creek, and brought our friends along. Now, your company has to deliver the product we were promised before this turns into a marketing disaster. Word of mouth helped you this year, but when your promises fail to materialize, it will end up hurting you in a way advertising can never repair. The best solution would be to bring back Shawn and Julian, although I realize this probably won’t happen. If your company could put the hundreds of customers who are alienated by this decision, over the handful of employees who found them to be a problem, the right decision would be clear. At least for this season we would like to see the two brought back. Next year, their lack of employment would no longer be affecting our decision to purchase passes, but for this year, your company deceived us into supporting your resort. This is an insult to those of us who have been spreading the word marketing your product for you. If the two do not return for the year, we ask at least that someone equally replaces what they were doing. This means not only on the hill, but off the hill. Shawn and Julian were receptive to our ideas. They communicated with the local riders. Since their firing, there have been no updates on the website, or in the forum. Since their absence, very little of the work promised to be done this week has been done at the hill. Clearly, their loss has not been replaced. The new park manager has yet to reveal himself, much less give a hint that he is equal to the task. This situation is about responsibility. Clearly your company is not smart enough to stick with a business decision that was turning your mountain into the best one in this region. At least then be responsible enough to deliver some of what was promised to us. I hope that you can lead your resort back into the esteem I held for only a few weeks ago. A good start would be by making the right decision here, bring back Shawn and Julian, or at least deliver what was promised to us earlier this year. I ask the moderators here to help me with this, if possible making this ‘sticky’ at the top, and also by deleting the people who will invariably start debating in here about it. I made a separate thread talking about this petition, for debate. Personal names would help although I understand if people don’t want to post them. I also ask Heather-Big Boulder to forward this to the appropriate people. Ultimately I will send a print copy in the mail, can someone please help me with an address?
  11. Related to the other thread found here Agreement (beyond your signature), disagreement, comments - whatever. I just want the reply count on that one to equal the number of signatures of people that agree with me.
  12. And its not like they used them and kicked them out at the end of the year, they were used and kicked out at a time when no mountain needs a park designers. If you don't have a park designer right now, its just not happening. So basically, they fired them and are paying a bunch of lower paid guys to finish the job. Thats bullshit. Beyond that, I don't think anyone is saying BB will now have a bad park. Thats not what this is about. But it won't be the same as when they were there. And yes, a lot of people went just for these guys. It is about the vibe, the scene, the whole package. There are plenty of people out there who can weld nice jibs, it was a hell of a lot of intangible stuff that went with it. That is gone. I really want to ride there jibs but I actually feel bad throwing money in Peak's direction now. I'll probably just ride Creek again and visit JFBB once or twice when they have the full park setup, and hit up Bear Creek when I'm down in Delaware because those guys are the closest to Shawn and Julian in terms of caring about the riders.
  13. Anyone ever notice that Mountain Creek has almost all foreign lift attendants at times? Last year there were a bunch of guys from New Zealand on their summer break. It was strange.
  14. Yea a bunch of new lifties there, they're nice but it was kind of funny on the 3rd day they were open. I kind of raced onto one and the guy paniced and almost hit the stop button thinking I was going to get hit by the chair on tennanbaum. Later I heard him ask his supervisor about it, and the guy was like 'if he looks like he knows what he's doing its fine'. Then I was getting off at the top and there was a kid down in front of me and the guy was standing outside the shack looking at the kids and then at me and couldn't figure out to hit the button or not with this classic paniced look on his face. I told him I got it and he left it run, but he said something about it being his first day. I laughed a bit because almost everyone seemed new, but at least they're nice and they'll get it soon enough. And actually the guys at JFBB checked my pass more often than any place I've been to that doesn't have a person designated to checking passes (visually or scanner - u no what I mean). Although both days I was there they were taking out kids who were poaching the park because it is right at the base and everyone was hiking anyway (which is bullshit, don't scam the one mountain open that actually made a bunch of snow for us, its not free people).
  15. I wouldn't worry much, they have a pretty solid base right now. Worst case scenario, it rained, it froze, and they'll groom it out tonight. Best case, it barely rained/flurried, still it will be groomed out tonight. It wasn't a very warm or very heavy rain so it won't melt much at all, just make the base a bit wetter. If you are coming during the week, the snow will be pretty good. Not sure how it will be by mid next week after weekend traffic and no snowmaking temperatures, but for now it will be fine.
  16. Vernon is warmer than the Poconos, being that is lower and closer to the ocean. Generally not as bad as BC, but a few degrees warmer than Blakeslee which is significant in marginal snowmaking weather. Usually 3-4 degrees difference.
  17. Usually not. Season passes are generally to bring in pre-season capital for them to spend on the power to run early season snowmaking. Once the season starts, they have little incentive to offer you a discount. Some mountains do a deal at the end of the season, if you buy a pass for next year you can use it the last month of this season. Maybe Blue is different, but largely, its not looking good for you. Of course if your a student, the price isn't that bad. Its like $30, so to pay off even a discounted pass thats 10 days of riding minimum, and if you won't be getting it till january, thats saturday/sunday of every weekend from then until the end of the season.
  18. "MOUNTAIN CREEK WILL BE OPEN THIS WEEKEND!!!! Yes boys and girls, it has arrived. From 9am (8am for season pass holders) - 4pm on Saturday 12/16 and Sunday 12/17 there will be riding and skiing for all. We will be open with 2 top to bottom trails: 1 on Bear, 1 on South. We're also going to do our best to have some little jibbers up for you, though jumps may be out of the question. So come one, come all to Creek this weekend for sun, snow, and friends. Thanks for all your patience and crazy (somewhat fanatical) support during this preseason. It's been great!" So only 2 trails, a few jibs, no jumps. All the other mountains (except maybe bear creek) will have more open. I won't be there, I get to pick up my girlfriend at the airport on Saturday and I haven't seen her in 4 months so that has is more fun than riding 2 shitty creek trails. Anyone going up? I might head up Monday when the crowds aren't as insane since I have to pick up my season pass anyway. On one hand, mad they didn't blow much snow. On the other, we all know MC's snowmaking budget is small, so glad they didn't make a bunch of snow that will melt off anyway. Maybe after this warm spell they'll make snow and it will stay cold for a while, I hope they actually get 100% open this year.
  19. Hmm, I've heard rumors of MC opening on the 16th, but far from concrete.
  20. I thought they seemed slow to me. I know they're not detachable but there are faster non-detachable chairlifts out there for sure.
  21. Your right, haven't been at JFBB at all. Was a Mountain Creek local. Followed Shawn and Julian to JFBB from all the marketing hype, and knowing they could deliver on it. Now they are out of MC because they were attracted by JFBB, got shafted by JFBB, and aren't making a park anywhere around here. Sucks for the large number of Creek locals who were excited to see them get some snow to play with, now we don't get to ride anything by them. In my estimation Peak fucked up 2 parks, they hurt MC by pulling those guys away, and then messed up their own.
  22. Well the ParkLogic guys were by name, lets get some names up in here? Who is going to try to fill these shoes. I'm just wondering who Papa will be addressing his request for a refund on those season passes later in the year when JFBB turns out to be no big deal.
  23. Good work SMI + Snowmaking crew
  24. Big Boulder has more vert than Ecko Mountain and you see that everywhere.
  25. We'll see. However even if it is good, we won't ever be able to compare it to what would have been if they hadn't been kicked out. I don't doubt it will be good, maybe still even best in the region. (Hell Mountain Creek has no body left really, the new management is old school again, and Bear Creek is getting raped by the weather). I really feel like it is a bigger long term loss than a short term one.
