  1. Ha yea dude, it was legit snowing, sticking and all. I had almost an inch on my car when I left at 6:30. And if you don't like to ride when it snows? What? It wasn't even enough to slow the snow down (kind of windy). I hope they get a bit tonight, and my car said it was 25 degrees when I left, but they hadn't started blowing that early as far as I know.
  2. I'll be there, Red Jacket, White helmet, gray pants, white/black checkerboard goggles. Burton Jeremy Jones Snowboard. I'll be around, name is Kevin I'll be alone so I'm looking for people to ride with.
  3. I'll be up today (thursday), red burton jacket, gray technine, white helmet, black.white checkerboard goggles, burton jeremy jones. Name is Kevin. Drop me a pm
  4. Well its not 3 days, its a whole week. JFBB will be open in 2 hours, a few jibs up. Then they will have the next week to blow snow on top of that, so by next Tuesday I bet their park will have a lot more shit than yours. That being said, we all know Bear Creek is the warmest mountain around here, so I don't think anyone is actually surprised by this. I'm sure you guys are doing the best you can with your weather. Imagine if some of the other park crews were given the weather Bear Creek gets, they would never open up a park. So all I can say is, I hope you blow every second you can to get enough snow to survive the lack of snowmaking weather right before the holidays, because i want to ride some of those nice jibs we've been seeing sooner rather than later.
  5. Mountain Creek has started pumping it out. The only place they have those guns are the South Base, the Superpipe, a few above the Superpipe, and on the Sugar slope. I'm guessing that one is for the South Base, although they could also be blowing on the Superpipe. Either way, they make a shitload of snow per hour, not sure what kind, but its impressive.
  6. I think I read somewhere it is like 3 degrees per thousand feet on average?
  7. It is the warmest of all the mountains, that is a big factor.
  8. Well realize you aren't comparing the right numbers here. Camelback is counting every gun they have - which includes a lot of fixed mounted guns on the sides of trails. However when they run the snowmaking system Camelback can't run 1500 guns, they are only running a fraction of them. Killington was running something like 200 guns when they were trying to open. If Bear Creek has 94 guns, and runs say 80 of them at once (because some of the automated ones won't be on the trails they are working on), that is a good deal of snowmaking. However I would still say they are outgunned by other resorts. Look at Blue. There are so many fixed towers on Razors, and now on Sidewinder, at least 100 guns on each trail. If they run every single one of them, they are making more snow. On top of that number of guns doesn't equal amount of snow, Mountain Creek uses 4 big guns to make the entire super pipe in about a week of snowmaking, maybe a bit more. That would take about 10 of the tripod mounted snowguns at least to equal it, they make a rediculous amount of snow. About the most even statistic is how many gallons of water per hour are pumed through the guns, because air output is very dependent on type of guns and temperatures, and number of guns is inconsequential if you can't run them all.
  9. I'll be there
  10. 50/50 on going or not, my final project is due on Wednesday and if I finish tonight I will be there. Otherwise, thursday and friday I'll be there. Anyone free those days? All the guys I ride with aren't free yet this week.
  11. I can see the drinking age being 21/18 from both sides. I agree that the responsibility necessary is beyond what a hell of a lot of 16 and 18 and yes 22 and even 40 year olds have. That being said the drinking age is legally 21, but in high school we could get alcohol easily, it was mostly just difficult to find when/where you can drink it. In college you can get/drink it without fail as often as you want. So the reality is that there is a huge amount of underage drinking anyway, so what is the best way to deal with it? I'm not sure what the answer is. When I was in high school I was all for lowering it, because I drank and my friends drank and we never had many problems. But now that I'm in college I've met so many people who aren't as responsible as my group of friends at home, who just should not be allowed to get drunk, that my opinion has changed a lot. I'm not sure what the answer is. All I know is that the age should be standardized across the country so people don't border hop. We're about 2 miles from MD, 10 from NJ, and 20 from PA at the university of delaware. If the drinking age was 18 in one of those states there would be so many kids drinking and driving to get to bars, it would be completely unsafe.
  12. Do you think they will have open before 3 any day this week or the typical 3pm opening? I want to go thursday or friday but I was hoping to go during the day.
  13. (borat voice) .... Nice ....
  14. Check - A few of us went down to the lounge in our dorm and made assholes of ourselves buttering and spinning around, hitting tables, good times. Only a few more days.
  15. I would say a MiniDV is your best way to go, the harddrive/flash drive type ones are too expensive. Don't mess around with anything analog that ends up being a bitch to edit. So now narrow it down to 1 or 3 CCD. Basically, 3 CCD has better colors, 1 CCD is cheaper. Depending on your budget, the switch to 3 CCD is worth it. For brands, Canon, Sony, or Panasonic. Check out CNet.com and DVSpot.com
  16. Well realize the name of the game for a ski shop is to prevent hurting someone (liability) so the shop of course is going to tell you to get them checked. And get more money out of you? We charge $15 for it at high country, thats less than the gas on one trip, like Justo said its more than just the 1mm because the ski tech set the bindings last time might have made adjustments specific for your boot. I convinced a guy the other day to spend the $15 to get his bindings (older) bindings checked out when he had them in for a tune, and they ended up failing. When we told him that hey, your bindings were seriously messed up and you probably would have hurt yourself if you skied on them he realized it was a $15 worth spending.
  17. Not sure, someone said so but I'm not convinced. They started making snow and will have tonight, tomorrow night, and monday night of very good snowmaking weather. 3 nights will be enough to put down a good bit of snow for tuesday. It is safe to say they will be open by Saturday.
  18. I'd go Thursday or Friday if anyone wants to go, and I'm buying a ticket which is unusual for me because I usually only buy tickets when I'm on a trip, I did all of my days here last season as a season pass holder except 1 day at Blue, 1 at Shawnee, and 1 at Camelback. And I also think JFBB will be first to open.
  19. UDel postponed their ski trip as well, I'm hoping to get my first day out next weekend when the PA resorts open.
  20. mountain creek has had 2 or 3 rails on opening day for the last few years.
  21. Yea better to melt off when only 10% of the mountain is open than having half of the snow melt across the board.
  22. Just a heads up to anyone who was considering going anywhere this weekend, Hunter closed down yesterday but apparently now everyone is close as far north as Killington and even farther north to Jay Peak. Tremblant is still open, but only 5 trails. Looks like Sunday is good for most places but I wouldn't hold my breath for it. By next weekend though, looks like the north will be solid again.
  23. That park is tight but if I flew all the way out west I wouldn't waste my time at 650 vertical foot mountain when you can drive an hour further to Breck, get a sick park and a full mountain. Of course if you lived in CO and wanted to save some time driving, it would be sick on the days when there isn't powder.
  24. Ok thats less insane than I thought it would be, I was trying to figure out how the fuck someone was going to gap to the hand bar on the right side if they had to clear a bunch of steps and then aimed for like a 3 inch wide piece of metal. So its kind of like a table top jump with battleship boxes on the sides, stairs as a landing, a rail up the middle and a rail on the landing. Not going to be dangerous AT ALL. I can't wait.
  25. Well where are they? The blue site or their myspace or what?
