No pussy footing around, the shit is garbage. Straight up. Thats lowest level rental stuff, not worth purchasing if you aren't even getting better than a rental.

Yea its really friggin high. I kind of expect the snow to go up to the bottom of the windows. That would still be really high but do able. Blue is definitely making some big shit this season.

How does it compare with Hunter, I always go to Hunter instead but I see they have a new lift this year. I like the backside of Hunter a lot and I'm wondering if there is anything steep at Bellayre. I saw they have a buy one get one free if you show up for opening day, so I'm considering doing that.

They should have an artwork contest. People submit there pictures. It would be cool if you got a bunch of kids who could tag really well. Just tape off the top and let them go at it.

looks like those stairs are the entrance to the park, which means you will have to take your board or skis off to get into the park, which will be perfect because anyone who wants to go in can for free, you don't need a guy checking passes, but not as many people will bother. I will be used to it since at mountain creek with the gondola you have to strap in everytime anyway. It also means you probably will have a higher start so more speed rolling into the first features. good idea.

mountain creek is aiming for the 9th we'll see what happens.

pssh fuck that I wish i could give my money to mad river glen. I'll hold it against taos, alta, deer valley, but don't diss mad river glen that place is legit skiier owned, and they can do what they damn well please.

11.17.06: Big Boulder Park Update
method9455 replied to ParkLogic's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
Hmm I'm wondering how fast you need to go to do the down-flat and then gap over the down without killing yourself. Could be fun. I'm also all for going up backside boardslide on the a-frame, and switching it up to frontside for the down. Or seeing a skier do a switch up over the kink on top, that would be tight. I'm glad they're moving back to narrower stuff. The down-flat-gap-down box at Mountain Creek last year was tight but it was wide so it was actually easy and a lot of kids started hitting it, and crowding up the ramp for it. -
I really want to look into it more so I know the details better. Giro says every 3 years, or after a serious crash they can check it for you. So I dunno, but I want to look into it because it is something you need to keep track of.

They have a 37' A frame rail on the JFBB gallery which looks really sweet. Looks like it is rounded between the up and down parts which is nice. I think I might go to opening day you know they will have a bunch of jibs out for it. I just need to find all my damn gear its scattered everywhere.

PC opened today, only green trails though

I have Figments and I love them too. I have clear for night, amber for cloudy days, and gold mirrored for daylight. Never ever ever fog up on me. I have only ever had cheapo smiths so I don't know how their better ones are, but those are sick looking. figments are meant to go under goggles so the top line is flat, that is why they fit so tightly. And the frame is a soft plastic so it kind of molds to your face, along with just the right amount of venting so they stay clear but aren't too cold. I would take them over oakley, I just wish they had more lense options.

I have a full and a short, full is the kind of older style you will see still with Beori. Realize that gives you more coverage for safety. The short is more comfortable because it is lighter and there is less pressure on the side of your head. I use the full which has closeable air vents when I'm in Quebec and its fucking cold as hell and it is great to keep your ears warm. Plus I'm going faster because I'm doing steeper stuff and glade skiing up there, so extra protection is good. The short one I use here because it has a lot of vents and the ears are open, and I don't think it ever gets cold down here unless its late at night so I like having a cooler helmet. Plus I ride park so the speakers in a short helmet are nice, and obviously a cooler helmet because you exert more energy and sweat more riding park. Both will protect you from the primary impacts which are right above your eye line, and to the back of your head. That brings me to why it is a really bad idea to wear a bike and/or skateboard helmet skiing (or improperly fit skiing helmet). Skateboard helmets generally aren't strong enough for snowboard falls. Bike helmets often are, but since they are so vented people usually put a hat under them. The hat lifts it too high up off your head, and then when you hit the ground the helmet rotates backwards and your forehead is exposed - basically doing nothing. Bike helmets have basically 0 protection for the back side of your head, unlike ski helmets which wrap down. Most skateboard helmets come down on the back as much as snowboard ones, but they again are usually worn over a hat. The people with seemingly tiny helmets compared to eveyrone else are wearing skateboard helmets with no hats under them. I've never tried that for comfort, warmth, or safety but I know its not recommended. As for the face mask, there are a few ways of doing it. I usually go with a bandanna for park/warm days, even that is too hot sometimes. Then when it gets colder I go for the neck gator. There are some people who have the neck gator with an attached hood that goes under the helmet, sometimes it says helmet liner, sometimes it says neck gator, either way, that is the warmest. I personally like the softer ones like the black turtle fur style over the kind of plasticy neoprene ones. If you buy the kind that just goes around your neck it doesn't matter much, but if you are going with a helmet liner, try the helmet you are buying on with the liner. Hair effects it too, i bought a helmet with a buzz cut, then grew my hair out past my ears and the helmet barely fit anymore. As for fit, Burton has a pretty good fit guide on their website under the R.E.D. section. Measurements are a good ball park but they aren't solid at all in terms of sizing, and don't transfer between manufacturers. A XXL Boeri is about a L Red or Giro. Red and Giro are close but the differance between a M and a L is at a differant size for the two. For sizing, once it is on your head you want it sitting tightly on your head. Tighter is better until it is too tight and then it sits high because it won't go around your head. My test is usually to shake your head really hard left right, and then up and down. Think like head banger style hardcore shaking here. If it moves a cm here or there, thats fine. But if it moves an inch, you need a smaller size. The left-right shake usually tells you if it fits or not, the helmet should go with you when your turn no matter how fast your head whips. Up-down usually isn't as easy to tell which is why i do it second. Almost all helmets are equal in terms of quality of the shell that is protecting you. It is basically a matter of weight, foam quality, extras like audio or cell phone (who talks on their phone while skiing? I will kill anyone who does that), how many vents/style of vents etc. Make a budget, get the best fitting helmet that fits you in that budget, whatever features it has are great. Pick one with a muted color black or white are usually the best because you don't want to be buying a new helmet every time you change your jacket color. and for my sake BRING YOUR GOGGLES WITH YOU WHEN YOU TRY ON THE HELMET. no gaps between helmet and goggles please, thank you. Second note as to why you should wear a helmet. Two years ago, mountain creek first jump. Went off, caught an edge on the landing, fell, no big deal. I hadn't even stopped sliding when i stood back up again so the fall was benign and the helmet hadn't done anything for me during that fall. However, as I stood up, skier came over the jump. Hit the ground and his right ski released. His ski flew off and was spinning like a helicopter blade really fast and hit me square in the back of the head. Knocked me down and maybe out, I don't remember seeing the ski or hitting the ground although it happened really fast. Three people came over to see if i was ok and moved me off the run. I had a 1/8" deep dent in the back of my (full length/metal) helmet from the impact, and a few more deep scratches on top. I had a stiff neck but no injuries and I left the terrain park to avoid a concussion if I fell later that day and just cruised around but my day wasn't really effected. However, had I not had a helmet I truely believe my skull would have been broken open. That ski hit me hard enough to knock me flat out like someone hitting me in the back of the head with a bat, except with a sharp metal edge. I've also had at least 3 hits to the head on handrails that dented the helmet. Sidenote - some of the plastic helmets are one shot only, I.E. that shot would have been the end of the helmet. Metal helmets usually aren't one shot helmets. However, about 90% of helmets are one shot helmets now, including all the R.E.D. and Giro ones. This doesn't mean the helmet is going to dissintegrate and you'll have a bunch of pieces. It means that the strength of it is compromised in that area, so if you hit it again there it won't help as much. Metal just bends a tiny bit but is still just as strong. This is one of those things that not many people know and you get a huge amount of BS from manufacturs about, but check out the websites and you'll see in the fine print it says that.

Been up to Tremblant 3 years in a row, all 3 times Mountain Creeks was open before them.

Yea man, your talking about pipes from about 10 years ago. Shawnee, Camelback, Mountain Creek (GRAND PRIX SUPERPIPE), Blue, Hunter, Mount Snow, they all use them for sure. It basically just supports the outside edge of the pipe instead of using snow, has nothing to do with inside that is being cut. None of those places use hand cutting anymore. The only serious half pipe on the east coast that I have seen without dirt was the superpipe in Tremblant which is 100% snow, but again they are below 30 degrees for about 3 months straight so, snowmaking is a hell of a lot easier and cheaper. Even then, I went up last year and Mountain Creek's superpipe was open before Tremblants.

Well everyone uses dirt under it. Its not a 'mold' its just two mounds of dirt that save on snow on the outside. the middle is all snow. Every mountain around here uses a cutter of some kind, they haven't been done by hand in ages, and almost all of them use dirt.

I've got my fingers crossed for the 2nd of Dec.

where do you get longer than 14 days? now that herb stevens is gone I don't know where the long range stuff is.

I looked at a few forecasts for the area today. Snowmaking looks possible sunday monday and tuesday nights this week, but very marginal and for a very short amount of time. It will warm up wednesday and thursday to about 50. Thanksgiving weekend looks like some snowmaking hours for sure. Not 24/7 but at least a few hours at night. Unforately blue looks like it has warmer weather coming than MC and JFBB for the next week, so not sure if they will make the first week in december. How many hours does Blue need to get the first few trails open? Mountain Creek has their tentative date set for Dec 9th but I hope Blue and the rest of the poconos beats that because they usually do.

Checked a few forecasts today. Looks like about a high of 40, low of 30 for Saturday & Sunday. Unfortunately cloudy so it won't cool down quick at night, and high humidity, 70-80% will hold through Sunday. Monday night looks like the first night that they COULD make a decent amount of snow. Not sure if they will. Possible snowmaking weather Monday and Tuesday. Marginal to no snowmaking wednesday and thursday, but the high is only 48 and its partly cloudy so not much meltoff. Friday the 24th the high is about 38 low is 20. After that looks like 5 days of night time snowmaking weather, a little rain on Tuesday that could be snow and/or ice at the mountain. Doesn't look like any 24/7 snowmaking weather in the next two weeks. From my amateur estimation, they could get 5 solid snowmaking nights and 2 possible ones. If they start this sunday they could get a little down but not much. If they do it will be one of those take pictures for the marketing blitz type things. If they wait until the 24th which is more likely, they will get at least 5 nights of solid snowmaking. Not sure how many hours before it warms up too much, but i would expect them to be open first week of December on at least a few trails. And I expect to be there for Dec 3rd.

The have pictures of the new zaugg on their website. I didn't know they were getting a zaugg. The good thing about them is they cut the pipe into a really smooth shape. They also do the originally shaping better. However they don't deal with ice as well as some others. It is one of those things that has to be done often too, and timing and quality of the groom is more important than what they use to do it.

I bet the pipe will be improved next season at JFBB, that is something that takes more than a few weeks to prepare for unlike building jibs.

I know you have no idea how disappointed I was. Basically, the music is so bad it brings the whole thing down. Its not "i don't like the music" its "i can't listen to this without cutting my own jugular". The riding was so so, all solid but nothing that would make it worth listening to the music for. Very few original camera angles aside from this one follow cam through a pillow line that is pretty cool, but nothing as revolutionary as last year. THere is a reason i got the MDP and the Absinthe ones first, they along with Robot Food are the best video production companies out there. Benedict does good shit with 91 Words and I hear he is doing a follow up, we'll see how that is.
