  1. Ok, first thing is find a jump your size. You don't want anything that you have to clear a huge distance to make the landing. Second it should be on a trail that you are VERY comfortable riding. When you land off the jump you will be carying some speed and you want to be well within your comfort zone, as you may have to recover from being off balance or whatever as you are carrying this speed. Just be comforatable on the trail. When you have selected the right jump approach with medium speed (not sure what this is for you, but just take it at a medium speed). Assuming you don't have to clear a huge distance this should suit you fine, because, medium will be a relatively comfortable speed, and if you have been riding for a little while medium should also be fast enough that you dont stop before the lip (the very top edge) of the jump. When you take your first jump, I would say just ride over it. Maybe work up speed a little bit so it throws you, just get comfortable with how it feels and what the landing is like. When you are comfortable with that you are going to jump off the jump. Basically jumping is real easy. When you are at the bottom of the transition for the jump, bend your knees and get your body weight low, as you feel the jump, push you upward, push with it. As your tail moves over the lip of the jump, boost off with any extra knee bendage you have for the most boost. The later in the jump you spring with your legs the higher/farther you will go. You may want to try jump on the ground, to get the hang of it. Just keep in mind, the flat ground does not have a lip, so you need to concentrate harder on popping off the tail of your board. Its fun/good practice to jump over small pieces of ice, leaves, small branges, gloves, ski poles, and anything else that might be on the trail. Just starts small. As far as landing, if you practice jumping on the flats you will have a better idea of how to land while moving. You want to land SLIGHTLY on your tail, but its very subtle. So, for beginning it might be easier to think of just landing totally flat on your board. Again if you start small and work your way up your muscles/mind will do things automatically and you won't have to worry about them. Hope this was clear, and helps you a little bit. Also, depending on how your gear is setup you may want to loosen things up a little. If you are used to cranking things down, for super reponsiveness you may have some problems with jumps, just because things don't always go as well as planned. They are not as predictable as trails, so. If your bindings are a little looser, they will give you some leniency when your body weight isn't exactly where it is supposed to be.
  2. As I mentioned before, you cannot give up your rights, including your right to sue. It just give the mountain a case when they can say, hey you agreed not to do this. Of coarse if they are being negligent, and you can prove it, I don't know why a court wouldn't rule in your favor, as long as the settlement was appropriate.
  3. We have an on campus power station, so we don't really ever lose power. They also rarely give days off, and I doubt they will do it on the first day of the semester. I move back into the dorm on sunday though. If I'm bored, or get moved in early I may take a trip to CB sunday night, but I will probobly just chill with my friends, since I haven't seen them in a few weeks.
  4. Just got back from CB. It was pretty bad. Crowds were insane because of the ski clubs. They only had doubles open, they closed the park. Just a lousy day. Julius Ceasar was empty, so I could make some laid back turns on it which I can never do because its ALWAYS crowded, but besides that the day was a waste. At one point I was actually contemplating riding sunbowl because the lift line wasn't as bad. Saw lineski, or rather he saw my brother, then met up with us. He saw me take a REALLY haggard run down marjies. It was pretty much a sheet of ice on the left (which is my prefered side), the right looked a little better, but not great. Kinda weird because rocket was at least nasty granular, so you could hold an edge much easier. Oh well, my bro bombed down it, and did fine. Better luck tommorow. It's my last day before I head back to school.
  5. So I was talking to my friend who was at CB for a few hours today. He said the conditions were horrible. I asked if it was granular like the website said. He said "There are a few spots that are granular, most is just uneven ice" HAH. That on top of the ice storm would tell you not to go to the mountian, but I couldnt sleep last night because I hadn't ridden, so I'm heading out into the ice hehe. Just wanted to know if they other mountains are in as bad shape, or if anyone is even braving the weather. Oh, forgot to add, apparently CB isn't running the quads because of the ice. It's funny because on their website they said they had nile open... How is that possible
  6. All this hype, I think no matter how horrible it is, I think I will laugh, and like it when/if i see it.
  7. Like I said, the guys I saw roaring through the base area (yeah, so no excuse for not getting up the trail) were ski patrol. They fired by me before I could even think about flagging them down, and asking what the rush was. I suppose I could have reported it, but it would have meant missing out on riding time . Not sure if the blue moutain admin reads this mb but if they do, I saw SKI PATROL.

Which rails are you talking about, they all looked fine to me.

Is 2 trails all they have? Is there a lodge, anything besides gates? Is the silo the ticket window hehe.

Hehe, those are always fun. Could you at least shake it and knock everyone off speeding up the lift?

That hill makes me laugh. As much as I rag on CB they HAVE to be better than that mountain.
  12. When I was at hunter, there was a few runs you could barely see the snow at your feet. It was only at the top of the mountain though. It was the worst fog I've ever been in though. REALLY scary to ride through. Plus, you didn't have any peripheral so you ended up riding way faster than you should have, cos you just didn't realize how fast you were going.
  13. Yeah, but you can never tell with that, cos the resolution is so poor.
  14. YIKES I didn't even notice that before.
  15. Things were real nice tues. when I was up there, don't know what the snow/ice/rain made things like. Coverage should be good though. It beats camelback and probobly any other mountain around here for the time being anyways.
  16. He said it was an estimation, he got off the lift at 9:58, I would be surprised if it were really as late as 10:15. Also like he said, it wasn't a you're out on the trail too late, it was a the pipe is closed deal.
  17. He doesn't drive, he rides in on this
  18. I think what atomic is touching on is the larger issue here. The trail was closed, but if its poorly marked, or marked in an unusual way its difficult to tell if its closed. Usually when the pipe is closed they have lollipops the whole way down. Thats because people enter the pipe the whole way down. Its not a normal "trail" so its stupid to treat it like a normal trail. If CB is going to have a policy of marking the pipe with lots of lollipops all the way down the pipe with a gate at the top one day, then two lollipops at the top none down the sides the next day (or in this case the same day) of coarse its going to create confusion. They guy let him off (which is cool) after lots of arguing (not cool), but its more than just a problem with patrolers/rangers/etc. Its a problem with policy. The whole thing is if you have a consistant policy it makes everything a lot better. I don't have a problem with people doing their jobs. I do have a problem with people being jerks while they do their jobs, and putting blame where it doesn't belong (ie people riding the pipe rather than whoever was supposed to mark the trail, have the gate etc).
  19. Bonus points for cop cars and mountain vehicles
  20. I didn't think that ptex drip was that hard. Maybe because it was in the basement, and it didn't matter if it got on the ground. I got a tiny bit on my and it burnt a little, but it was still soft so I got it off me pretty quick. That repair kit sounds nice though, I'll have to look into that.
  21. The pipe ALWAYS has stuff at the top, even when it is 100 % fully open there is stuff blocking the top of the pipe. I'm not sure if you've never patroled that area or what, but there is ALWAYS at least a net. So of coarse there could be confusion.
  22. Wow, well its a good thing you went then, and a good thing I don't have any trees within falling distance of my car
  23. Yeah, the fact that it was 10:15 would have been enough to clip your ticket technically, but I think most resonable people would just say leave. I always end up riding through closed stuff to get back to my car at night, because I park right next to the stevenson. So I just flip my pass inside out or take it off and hide it, then head over. If I ever get stopped I'm just gonna run. It sucks though because I'm pretty identifyable, with my helmet, beard, and I always wear a hoodie. If they made a concious effort to id me as I was running off they could definitely pick me up the next time a came.
  24. Yeah, they are really starting to piss me off with the "convserving for the weekend" crap. I ride all week. I paid for my season pass. When are you going to start caring about me? I guess you aren't. Whatever, I'm not going ot CB next year for a season pass.
