If the ADKs got snow I would seriously consider living there. Great TR and looks like you got relatively good conditions compared to what you said those peaks are like 9/10 times.

Sorry not describe your potential best run, but the actual best run you have taken.
-
On a powder day are you more inclined to spin as many laps as possible or will you take less laps at a higher quality per lap? Assume they are mutually exclusive. Which do you consider the better run: a mellow (your definition not mine) pitch with untouched snow or a run that pushes your abilities with good, but a small handful of people have been down it? How likely are you to ditch your friends? Describe your best powder run.

Looking at the trail map camelback increased the ratings of a couple of trails including Nile and Pharoah. Your wife looks familiar. Is her name Jen?

0 creek has a hut called Boris that has had ongoing issues with the FS. It used to be really nice with a full size door and windows, bedding and a wood burning stove. I never stayed there, but the last news I had from it was the door was replaced with something more natural, the forest service removed the stove and most of the amenities inside. It's in a somewhat flat field of pillows almost directly next to the creek about 1/4-1/2 mile from the road. If it were me, I would just stay in my car at the turn out, but I buy cars specifically thinking about how comfortable they are to sleep in. YMMV. All 3 cirques can be accessed by the ridge from the top of the pass parking lot in 3 hrs or less. South (best IMHO) side of 1st creek has best access from the north parking lot (I think there are 2) of 2nd creek. The top of 1st and all of 0 are best accessed from the resort, with 0 mostly being accessed by ducking ropes.

The first time I ever did mines it was bullet proof up in the vortex, then super punchy like that. I think I did no less than 25 unintentional cartwheels in the runout zone to a slidepath I was very scared of. Current Creek cirque is cool, but always seemed to get tracked well before I got my shot at it. 2nd, 1st and 0 creek cirques all have fantastic terrain far less used, but we still accessed them just fine on snowshoes and snowboards.

Just curious. How was it skiing? I wanted to get the fingers for a while, but it never seemed quite right when we were thinking about it. Heard mines 1 & 2 went real big this year. Ever explore zones that aren't in the books?

So does nearly every hill in CO. What's your point? Are you saying an expensive town, ticket and lodging somehow become worth it for $1.50 in "Freebies" you could just bring yourself?
-
I work from home, set my own schedule and develop software... ....NEWSFLASH... you don't know shit.
-
Doug you don't hike, I wouldn't expect you to like Bridger Bowl. Your comments about your experience at the hill are very telling about your skill level and your experience at this hill. Keep telling yourself bigger is better and vert is king. The rest of us will be having more fun...

.....NEWSFLASH... you don't know shit. Plenty of rich people can hang and many many skiers are complete dirtbags who have figured out how to budget in order to afford a very expensive sport. Any skier/rider worth their weight would have a blast at almost any hill anywhere. Aspen is over 3 hours from Denver and as you noted doesn't get much snow, and requires driving past or farther than many other quality destinations, with cheaper tickets and more snow. I want to visit the highlands because some people I trust said there are a few fun shots there, and photo evidence seems to agree. I would much rather be at any of the following: Telluride, Crested Butte, Wolf Creek, Jackson, Snowbird, Alta (if I skied), Baker, Whistler, Squaw, Bridger, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, Retallack, Silverton, Crystal, Alyeska or for the price of going to half of these spots: any number of BC zones with a sled and a trustworthy crew.

I think its a 3-4 min ride on the quad at the base area. Longer for the taller one. Definitely takes longer than 30 secs from when you get off the chair to when you sit down on the next, even with no lines.

Issues to consider: Risk homeostasis Helmet impact ratings Helmet hardness Helmet strength Helmet compression Type of accident Helmet fit Your own ability to control a situation (skill level) Your inability to control a situation (other people, act of god, lack of skill) Additional risks of wearing a helmet

In some cases yes.

Doug you were the one who stated multiple times this year that that much snow is both too much to ski and dangerous because of avalanches and you don't want to die. You sir have been the hater.
-
I'm sure Doug didn't ski today because it was too deep.

Is this lookers right of a lift right up the gut of the main bowl?
-
I thought this too, but the reality is it's not clean. It's an air in, a smear turn, another turn and then killing all your speed in the mini-apron to avoid blowing out your knees on the traverse. Without the traverse it's an A+ mini-golf line for anyone with balls. As is, it's a sketchy grade C, because the best would be turns are in the mini-apron.

I thought I had seen a picture of a bigger crown than this in the PNW region. This was is pretty big, and it's labeled in a TGR thread as a 6 meter crown which it clearly is not where the guy is standing. Maybe in another location it is that deep. I regularly hear reports that say the crown was X feet wide and X feet deep. I don't think the way JT purported was incorrect but it was vague.

I fail to see the need for a saw unless you are doing PSTs which do a good job but haven't shown any more prejudice over ECTs. Saws are heavy, and on a normal day trip they don't add a lot of value for weight.

Money makes the lifts turn.
