JL covered most of the bases. He's a super great guy, a ripper in spite of broken gear and some nagging injuries. He has the touring end of skiing pretty dialed too. The guy just gets after it. Couldn't have asked for anyone better to show me around Mt. Washington on my first trip. Anyways here are a few pictures I took. More than half of mine look identical to JL's, so I'll avoid the repeats. Standing at the top of Hillman's looking at the white mountains. Just before the snow got aweful we climbed over some rocks. This is JL picking his way through some unfriendly terrain in his ultra-light compatible ski boots. JL contemplating how to best attack dodges without top buckles on one of his ski boots. I included this to show the pitch a little. JL making it look easy and approaching the pinch with confidence. One more scenic from the hike out.

Whats the coverage looking like, and how long are they open for?

I'm still wondering how a 20 ft huck to flat with pocono powder can somehow be considered decent.

Quit being lazy and just hike it.

Hmm, I think I'm going to try to make it there to take some pictures and just hang out. I'll probably try to bring a grill and do some tailgating. Bring your girlfriends, I'll be the one in the cowboy boots.

Hah, nice to hear from you Dave! I'll hit you up on your blog, but glad you checked out the pics. Wasn't the same without you there. Glad Europe is working out though!

No problem Jordan. I'm just glad you had a good time at WP. Hopefully next time I can stay out all day and show you some other areas of the mountain.

Come on there broseph. That wreck was totally radical. I think you went inverted at least 4 times. We truely slayed the mountain today. Next time we kill it that hard we need a bigger crew though.

My season is winding down to an end. I think I have less than 10 days of riding left at this point. I've been getting a good picture or two in per day, but mostly I've been riding because it's been so good. Lots of other cool stuff happened besides whats here, but most of it didn't get documented because it was just too much fun to stop for pictures. Nick Malozzi posted a TR from today with the only evidence of the day's happenings. It was a great time and you should check out his Gaper Day TR here. Anyways, on to the good stuff... This guy was just hanging out at the base area. He's from Boulder, and usually juggles while in his stilts. It's hard to see but he's actually wearing skis; super sketchball. So we got lots of snow this week. It started kind of wet and heavy earlier in the week. As the week progressed we saw bigger accumulations and lighter snow. The last day was 8 1/2 inches in 24 hours, and the top 6 inches of that was blower. It was the best snow I've ever skied, and it was bottomless in areas (with the other 40 inches of new snowfall this week sitting under the blower). I don't actually remember what day these pictures were taken. The second one you can see the slough (sp?) heading down to the lip of my favorite cliff. I rode with some guys this week I normally don't get out with. They had some kind of strange riding habits, but it was cool to switch things up. Hunter airing out a cliff. It's hard to see him, but he is inside that pow cloud, look for his green jacket. Same cliff band different line. Dan hits the two stage cliff decent. This was from the blower day. Sam is the best skier I know. The in-run to this cliff is the steepest terrain I have ever been on. I wish I had a inclinometer to say for sure, well over 45 degrees though. The cliff is pretty big and there are trees to air over on the cliff face. The take off is between two trees slightly larger than shoulder width apart. Sam clipped one of the trees on the take off with a shoulder and still stomped the landing. Unreal. The mountain closed today which was a little depressing. Sam, Lindsy and I headed to the summit of Winter Park to watch Perry's Peak as the sun set. After a week of being socked in and amazing snow, today was spring conditions, 40 degrees and decent visability. You couldn't ask for a better closing day.

Hey VT, it looks like I won't be making it back as soon as I had hoped. Want to just meet up on the 26-27th weekend instead? I'd like to meet up with Johnny Law as well.

Temps have been high, so untouched isn't really 30" deep. Anyways took some pics earlier in the week... http://www.paskiandride.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11664 Took a few more today, but a friend got hurt pretty bad, and I don't really feel like reveling in the glory of today. Hope you understand.

I reached 99 days on the snow yesterday. To celebrate this wonderful achievment, I went snowboarding today. Here is a teaser (don't get too teased I fell). I started the day in some WP side country. Took two laps first thing. Here is dave coming down a pretty steep tree chute, headed for a pretty steep rock chute. I rode park the rest of the day but put my camera away. After packing it in for the day, one of my grooming friends decided that the fencing outside my building needed a lip (after the resort closed). He made 4 passes and put together the sickest looking 6" lip I've ever witnessed. Some friends proceed to session the fence gap. I took a few pictures then went inside to continue my work. Hunter: Joe: I met this kid about 2 min before I started snapping pictures. I think his name is Beano??? Anyways, here is me scaring myself on a narrow, and very blind landing. Snow was good though. It's taken with a point and shoot, so quality isn't really that great. It is what it is. If a mod could embed this in my post that would be cool. I can't seem to get it to work. http://www.vimeo.com/861571

Your pole is not good.

I like the dbag/acre concept. I will have to look into this further in regards to mountains I enjoy and those I don't.
-
Come on PS, uphill landings make you a better skier.

Few pics of me and my friends today. (MORE PICS!)

Source? You know, at the end of the season, they usually will lay off the whole work force. I would assume they contracted people to do the tree removal and snow making installation, but I could be way off the mark.

WP has always shut down around the 15th. Steamboat as well. Don't know much about Copper or the Vail resorts. We shut down because of Elk Migration. I really don't think the forest service would give us an extension unless the Elk were slow.
-
Guess I'm totally wrong then. Lake Placid is a cool town, but I much prefer it in the summer. Hope the trip goes well!
-
Actually I think it has more to do with National forests forcing the resorts to close than economical strains. Regardless, staying open late encourages season passes holders to buy into your mountain. Thats why A-Basin does it every year, and loses money on it every year. Thats why Blue did it for years. Thats why JF/BB offers their season passes for next year late in the years.

I'm pretty sure that is less than 2 miles from the mountain. Not exactly in town, but you will get to the mountain early.

Very much so. Good eye. There are some great views I'd like to get night pictures of. Without a tripod though, I don't think it will turn out. I'll do my best. Maybe while I'm healing I'll tag along through the bigger park and get some pictures of a few friends. I'll be ready. Not sure how hard I'm going to be riding, but I should be able to make it all day (I hope).
