Yeah, after reading that TR Rick James is either a decent troll, or huge gaper. I think.

Boomer is a longer steeper headwall. I guess difficulty is subjective, but I'd say boomer is the 'harder' trail. In reality, if you can make it down one, you should be able to make it down both. WL is far more difficult. I feel like all the northface except the extreme skiers right should be diamonds, and WL should be a double.

Oh come on guys. The kids just wants to get on the internet and get some ski/ride stoke. The parent is likely doing some censoring and all is good. LJJ, congrats on the medal and keep up the shredding .

I'm planning to hit tuckermans late april/early may depending on the snowpack and coverage. Anyone else interested? I've got 1 probable partner and another unlikely partner. The more the merrier though. I'm aiming for cheap and at least 2 days riding, which means camping on the mountain. It's a bit far away, I know, but just trying to see if there is interest.

No experience with JF, but most New Years days are super empty for the first few hours than just as crowded as any other holiday. If you are planning a 2 hour session, then get there for opening and you will be set. If you are planning to ride all day, it might be a bit of a human slalom come 3pm.

We have diamond inside square instead of double square here. Same difference though. 3 levels of difficulty certainly isn't enough. Even 4 doesn't really suffice. When you can ride double blacks the difference between a blue and a double blue isn't a big deal. However, when you are trying to pick the first blue trail to try after only riding greens, it's a huge difference. Cannonball should probably be a diamond, but airing off those headwalls with no idea what is behind them is reckless and stupid, regardless of the trail rating. Which isn't to say I haven't done it, or that I don't air off blind cat tracks, headwalls, etc here. What I am saying is sometimes you will find people and/or ugly terrain on the other side and you need to be ready to accept the consequences rather than blame the mountain for poor trail ratings.

Can you wait a week or so? I'm interested but can't make it happen until I get my next paycheck (fri).

Yeah, I'm trying to find something that actually matches. I've got some other random gaper accesseries but none go well with the 1 piece.
-
I just scored a killer purple 1 piece. If I can find somewhere to post pictures from I'll get some action shots.

Gates are for gapers, real skiers race down cannonball during the holidays in the fog. Seriously though Mike, if you want a taste of humble pie take a couple of runs through gates and compare your times with ski. I've never met you, or seen you ski but I know what the results will be.

Hey ski, I like reading your trip reports, but more than 3 sentences and it stops being a quick TR unless you were referring to your skiing speed.

With 2 good long trip drivers you don't even need to stop overnight. 1,700 miles or so and gas is for the most part cheaper than the LV/Pocono area the whole way here. Plus it's just a sick mountain. Plenty of pillow lines all over, tons of them still untouched all season. I think coverage is a concern, but having the balls and the will to hike to them is another factor. If you can get here after a storm (like just about everywhere really) there is tons of stuff for all skill levels. Unlike everywhere though, I can show you were some cool stuff is.

No worries. I'm sure you already know, but they are going for $250 regularly on ebay.
-
How about $200?
-
Not that I think many (any) of you will, but I have 4 discounted tickets per day at Winter Park. Also, if you are as cool as Shadows, maybe a place to stay as well.
-
Are these for real? I can only find the 2 pics in this thread elsewhere. Also it's only talked about on message boards. I haven't found any PR stuff from liberty and the ski isn't on their website.
-
I'm sure you didn't take those pics to sell the truck, and they probably won't sell the truck.

I talked to my brother last night who is currently there. He said they got some serious snow recently, but rain yesterday. So it sounds like good coverage, but maybe not the best snow. Keep in mind that conditions are typically very different at the top, so if the area you are riding isn't good, there may be better snow at a different elevation.

To be fair vehicles are supposed to be super safe in electrical storms. Not because the rubber tires but because the tendency for the charge to move from the frame rather than through the cabin.
-
Hey Dan, give me a call a day or two before you roll through these parts. I got a place for you to crash, and some options on tickets.
-
Well I don't really have internet. I'm talking to you on a cash register.

Now I understand what you mean about Camelback
Glenn replied to darklordofsys's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
TN, I have no idea what the exact factors are. I will say that in general I like the snow at CB over that at Shawnee, but not quite as much as Boulder. Night skiing/riding is a big killer of conditions and things start getting bad right around 4, so it's not surprising you didn't like the conditions. The biggest killer for good conditions though is skier traffic. On days with favorable temperatures (either stays really cold with good snow, or stays above freezing) the traffic just creates mounds of snow, and rollers. On days with bad conditions you get ice, and sometimes mounds of snow and rollers. I've had my issues with CB, and they certainly have their bad nights with conditions, but I'd say in general the conditions at CB are pretty good for the area.
