I feel like Elk, Sno and JF had the most character out of the PA hills. They also had the slow lifts. Blue has the "most vert" but it's less than 1000 feet more than Elk, and elk has way less run out. You like steeps and blue doesn't compare to Sno. From the edits I've seen Blue looks to have a way better park than Sno and Elk's was pathetic the last time I was there. For spinning lots of laps and getting in the park Blue makes sense. I'll agree with whoever said hit it on a weekday. If you go on the weekend to these hills you will miss your hometown slopes dearly.

You sound a little sick to me. Also, have you ever been to WP non-holiday mid week? Get it now before spring break starts.

Oh man, Steamboat skis great with 9 inches. Storm Peak is where I usually burn out my legs but the whole mountain is fun. Morning side is kind of hit or miss. If you don't want to hike for short but steep shots then it's not worth the time to go over there. The egress is long and somewhat flat.

If you aren't taking unimportant or trivial things too serious then you aren't playing the internet game the right way. Like I said the movie made GNAR look fun and I'm sure it is. Especially in an area where it is so widely played and referenced. Still telling complete strangers particularly those who aren't in on the game that you are the best on the hill doesn't make it fun for everyone else. You just look like a dick. Naked skiing has and will always be funny, and all other sins are forgotten when you consider how much naked skiing happened in this movie/game. If you are playing GNAR and are being mean without being naked, you are adding to the problem.

Personally, I love playing games and although I haven't and probably will never play GNAR it looked like a blast. Make up a game and go have some fun at your hill.

I've haven't lived on the East Coast for several years. No one uses skis that short in the west. Why would you argue about something no one does? I haven't even seen them since I moved. I heard about a group hiking some back country in CO that kept going over the handle bars with super fat and relatively long skiboards. The snow wasn't that deep, but they just couldn't handle the powder. They were all filming and wearing skiboard.com gear. The assumption was they were "pro". Anyways, that was a huge joke around town, until everyone forgot people still use them. So yeah, it's not just the east that thinks they are short bus special.

PA does not have a single legitimate black diamond that I have been on. If you like jumps you need to go fast or you will be on the kiddie jumps forever. If your "carving" is as you put it fighting the mountain and slowing down then you are not really carving.

Revelstoke and Kicking horse are interior BC. They get a lot of snow, but not as much as Whistler. They also get a lot less rain though.

Fair and true. I'm using get off the snow as short hand for getting on low angle. Although, half the time I'll take one or two low angle runs and call it a day. Hard to justify the work when you can't reap something good.

Also similar to wet slabs, pits may or may not show the unstable layer. The water weakens the snow pack and causes a collapse, which may not be evident while the pack is dry and more stable. Since these events happen fast I would think getting off the snow a just waiting it out makes more sense than digging pits which will be dated in a matter of minutes to hours in a rain or thaw event.

Good points, went back and re-read some things on rain on snow. Take-aways: Rain on snow is most dangerous in the first few hours. Snow either slides or stabilizes within a day from a rain even. Snow which has already seen rain will handle the water in the pack well. Dan was saying everything was going which had me thinking about how destabilizing rain can be, just like a spring thaw. On the long term for sure the rain only adds stability to a pack. On the short term it can cause widespread failures.
