Also thanks to ski for the unexpected but still appreciated support for the park scene. Anyone who thinks he isn't open minded is a moron.

Ok, I'm going to give this a shot but it seems a few people in this thread are hell bent on "shutting up" the park rats. As mentioned before a good setup does not require very much snow at all. I'm not talking about jumps and other snow features, just rails. Also you will notice that for the most part the "whining park rats" have kept their mouths shut about jumps because they know snow is at a premium right now. I'm not sure this point is being driven home enough so to re-emphasize... rail jams happen in the SUMMER because so little snow is needed for a jib to work. If you can open a trail you can have well setup jibs on that trail bottom line. CB has the opportunity to setup a fun and progressive park because they have 1) more than enough snow 2) a talented park crew 3) the capitol to make it happen. Unfortunately there is a list of excuses why it won't happen which can basically be summed up with, CB management has decided how to setup the park rather than letting the talent and knowledge of the park crew (ie those who can/do ride the park) shine through. Also, they purchase/make (I'm not sure which) bad jibs. I don't know who is responsible for this but it seems pretty obvious they don't ride. The poor management decisions are what is so frustrating and what most of the park rats are complaining about. They have nothing to do with the bad weather. There are better ways of setting up parks (including beginner parks) and it appears that CB management is ignorant about them. This is not about park being more important than racing or free riding. The resources are ALREADY allocated they are just being used poorly. The complaining is a call for help to get the resources that are already being used for park to be used more effectively. CB is my home mountain, I ride their pretty much every day and I've spent a lot of time in the park (as most of the other terrain that I like riding isn't open yet). It's a shame they don't do more with what they have.

Nothing contrary to say about this one. Signs are good, so is reading. Great tip!

I thought the pipe was going to be on the park pass all along. Anyways this should keep the pipe in decent condition. Maybe they will even re-cut the pipe after every weekend... I'm not holding my breath though.

Best lift arrangement out of any Poconos resort. I agree with best variety as well. Best trail grooming of ANY resort I have frequented, although trail conditions don't necessarily directly correspond unless you get to the mountain first thing in the morning. Great season pass parking at the stevenson. Mostly easily outrun rangers.

Not an absolute beginner but I think he's been to the mountain less that 15 times. He can't connect carved turns...

Yep article 3.4 of our "challenges" bylaw document. Thanks for reminding us ski... what would we do without you!

The sunbowl lift is open, so basically you would just take the sunbowl lift up, then skate across the base area (slight uphill). I personally wouldn't hit those trails because it's not worth the effort, but it's not like you have to hike a long distance.

I don't know if anyone else is doing it, but pro-tec has multi-impact foam in many (all?) their models. I would say the multi-impact is the "better" way to go, as I never replaced my older helmets after falls. Unless it cracked I don't think I would have replaced it.

My roomate broke his wrist this week at camelback, he will probably be out for the season. It seems to be mostly beginner types that haven't figured out the art of falling in on a snowboard that have the wrist problems though. Any comments on that?

Wild turkeys are native to the area. I think there are three flocks which live around big pocono state park and camelback. I think the forest rangers keep loose tabs on them, but I'm not positive. There was a herd of about 5 deer on the asp about a week ago. I'm still hoping to see a bear at a mountain sometime in the fall/spring.

I asked one of the lifties but she mumbled and turned her head away?!?!

If you want to try something else you might want to think about Shawnee. The customers are a little more reasonable then at CB. Also I think the free skiing will be a little more varied than at BC and I think it's a little bit taller (maybe someone can verify). If you take a day off and go midweek, you will have a great time at any mountain including CB, but the weekends can be a bit sketchy. I believe Papasteeze does most of his skiing/riding on the weekends so his opinion about BC and JFBB being a good place as well shouldn't totally be discarded. Based on this I have to agree with Papasteeze, wait until they are 100%, some of the best beginner/intermediate trails have no snow on them, and it's a mad house right now. At the very least wait until nile mile and raceway are open.

Eh, I've seen it but it's ugly. The same can be said for whomever is throwing the 7's over the 3 foot long table top.

Another great post method, thank you!

The progression park was pretty jank the other day. For some reason all the features were located on the side of the trail, so you had to edge on the snow to end up flat on the features. Also that flat-down needs trashed or totally re worked. I had fun anyways though. ... Still better than CB's park

Any clue why the quad was operating as a triple in the morning? I have to agree good conditions though.

Let me help... if it's 15 min away and you are addicted to making turns. I can go up every night and have trails to myself for 2 hours, usually longer. If you have to travel or buy a day pass it's not really worth it. I guess if you are a beginner it doesn't matter much which mountain you go to, and CB does do a decent job with grooming so, I guess there is that to consider. The weirdos that bomb meadows kind of nullify that point a little bit though.

No... a few (good) features would not make CB more appealing than JFBB, BC, etc. I don't know how much park you ride, or how many other resorts you have ridden park in, but the "scare" phenomenon works like a charm. Gapped features and and rails/boxes 2 feet off the ground really does do alot to keep (most) of those out of the park that shouldn't be there at all. As someone else mentioned for those that can ride, the difference between 6" and 2' isn't that big a deal. It's clear that CB's managment doesn't ride park, and the same things that scare them away from having a GOOD park are what would scare away those that shouldn't be in there. I'm tired of CB using the fact that LG is a progression park as an excuse for why it is so lame. You can ride progression parks at Blue, BC, JFBB and shawnee that are 10x's as fun, better setup and suprise suprise you can actually progress. I don't want death defying features... flat down flat rails don't interest me, so the Rhodo park as far as I'm concerned is a bit of a pipe dream if they (CB) thinks it's going to save their scene.
-
Whoa... thats pretty rough there guys. You can't expect everyone to know the logistics of every trails snow making. Rather than calling names just let him know what the deal is and leave it at that. I think some of our staff should be ashamed for jumping on... and even starting this. Pathetic.

Marjies was much better today. The way the trail was initially groomed at the turn is a bit suspect, but I thought the snow was worlds better than opening night.

And your body moves with the chair as it continues through the pendulum motion with various points of a greater and lesser "G-Force." Unless you do something weird (ie horse around) physics will keep you in the chair. I will admit conditions with high wind gusts are a good time to put the bar down as they tend to move the chairs in a little less graceful fashion then emergency stops. I suppose if I skied I really wouldn't mind having the bar down, but I can't ever seem to find a comfortable position to rest my board with 3 other people on a lift (or 2 in the case of a triple) and the foot rests. Like someone else said, if they don't have foot rests no problem at all. If someone on the makes the move to put the bar down I never stop them though. It makes some people feel more comfortable (both to rest their feet and the heights). Just please give some warning before you yank the bar into my head . BTW cool topic, please continue with the "series"

I don't know, unless you are leaning forward I don't understand the risk of the emergency stop. I've been on the lift plenty of times with the bar up during emergency stops. The chair, swings forward and pushes you into the seat. If the chair remained perfectly vertical during an emergency stop then I could understand why the bar would be neccessary as the momentum would push you forward off the seat rather than into it. Everytime I've heard of people falling off lifts there was horsing around on the chair lift. If you don't know not to screw around 40+ feet in the air on a bench, then I don't know if anything, including a bar is going to prevent your injury.

Rainbow box (waist high). 2 Flat boxes side by side. 2-3 foot table top. "3 Picnic tables" which is really just a butter box with 2 1" step downs. Flat down box. All the boxes are ride on.
