I think the draw is snowmobiling in the denton area. I'm fairly certain my dad grew up snowmobiling around there and hopes to do the same this year. If the catskills are just as close I can't see a reason to even try. Also with the new high speed belleayre sounds very appealing.

Maybe when the army developed it the pitch was 66 and since erosion has mellowed the pitch. Either way still looking for those opening dates if anyone has any clue. I've been hammering google for a couple of days with no avail.
-
Opps... forgot about spring time at hunter. Well considering that, maybe bellearye is back in the picture.
-
Your dumb, we went to windham (we passed hunter) and you only drove a 1/3 of the way at best.
-
Yeah, I've experienced hunter early in the season too. Hunter I'd have to say from a terrain POV is a little nicer. I think the crowd situation (and trail openings) were just as bad at windham, and bellayre had similar terrain open with the slow lifts. No doubt the personality of the crowd was better at windham (and probobly better still at bellearye) but I'll be going to hunter to change the pace. Plus Zaldon has yet to go to hunter and wants to give it a whirl.

I hit up Belleayre at the end of the 2004-2005 season with a couple people from PASR. It was a good time, but unless they get lots of terrain open early, I think the better picks are windham or hunter. I did windham last year, so barring any lopsided terrain/price differences I'm shooting for hunter on 11-24. Although, with pops tryign to dish out the cash for a cabin (at denton) perhaps I can get him motivated to make that overnight stay worthwhile by making the trip to vermont. Any way you slice it, I'm trying to snowboard on my birthday, and denton is not the way to reach that goal. I just need a little more concrete evidence.

... thats what I'm trying to tell my old man. Unfortunately he is stubborn. Having opening dates for the past few years would provide a convincing argument.
-
...and I'd be willing to be neither of those trails will be open on 11-24
-
So it would be really great to know what Denton's opening dates have been for the past few years. I'm trying to avoid a bad time and financial screw-up.

Definately, I have problems with my 4 whole bindings loosening over time. The burton 3 hole pattern is worse. 2... I would 100% have to bring a tool with me when I ride. Maybe I'm a pansy but I can't seem to get screws tight enough to where they don't come loose when I ride. I'd put a dab of screw tight on the bindings but I move them with some regularity so I'm not sure thats the best option.

The information that I (thought I) read indicated it wasn't a daily thing. Like maybe for two weekends or something a summer there was lift serviced DH riding. It was not a race though. I remember thinking it would be cool, but I don't have a DH bike and I'm not the greatest rider, so I didn't want to die. After being to both mountains I feel confident I could bike down them with my hard tail. Being the local though, I'll default to you and assume I'm just delusional.
-
When I was first looking into mountain biking in the area I believe I saw JFBB (maybe just one of the mountains) offered DH biking serviced by the lifts. Granted this was a number of years ago. Can anyone confirm they used to offer lift serviced DH biking or am I just dumb?
-
I've heard this a few times but for the most part the various ski company fanboys (you know who you are) drown out this message. Confidence I suppose is one thing, but confidence that it's the best ski for YOU is different than confidence that it's the best ski ever is a different thing.

Too cool thanks for the post!

I kind of assumed elk wasn't included, but if it is then I would be willing to pay even more.
-
Hah, maybe I'm the only one but $1000 isn't my cap. Although too much over $1000 and I want ALL the mountains on board... BC, Blue, CB, Shawnee, JF/BB. I'm gonna take a guess the small ones like alpine would love to get in on it, I could be wrong though.
-
Yeah it's a shame. I would pay a pretty penny to ride any pocono mountain at will.
-
If you teamed up with someone to find the left behind boxers in the locker room that would be even worse.
-
It could be worse skifreak... we are just poking fun. Doug really screwed up and had a whole message board chase him across the internet. I'll unpin the topic ... in a few days
-
Ditto Skifreak I like you dude, but sometimes you're a little out there. ... great thread.

... so upon further review Nub Nob's locals proobly got organized and sent in tons of votes.

The pictures on their website look pretty legit. I think I'ver heard some things about this place on NS. I'm not saying it truely is the best, but perhaps the total mockery of the statement could be out of line. The ridind doesn't look too hot but the features look decent Halfpipe Flat down rail This is definately the weakest example, but I wanted to include a picture of a jib. Kicker Then again... maybe it really is as silly as everyone thinks. I'm certainly not the park expert, and I've yet to see (first hand) any resorrts with great parks.
-
Eh, not quite that simple. I would think the magazines have a little more integrity than just making list positions for purchase. However, depending on how the list is compiled money may matter. If for instance the editors choose, and certain mountains wine and dine the editors nicely during their visits, well you can guess which mountains really were the most fun (for those editors). If it's a public pole than any number of factors can come into play. All in all though, those lists are generally pretty useless.
-
Well put. Now that is established, what can be done? ... sure am glad CB is getting park passes this year.
-
... my point is smart style is worthless because there is no enforcement. I think park crew could be a piece to the puzzle in that change you desire.
