Oh I trust you about the thickness of the ice, but I just wanted to point out that indeed there was some serious melting. At least on the surface.

She won the first race by alot. Second one not so much. Lots of the races were real mis-matched. It's was an amatuer event, I didn't think it was that offensive. At the bottom of the run they hugged and picabo said "thats sweet"

I beg to differ. The day after the freezing rain, aka the day they closed due to "inclimate weather" Even the huge packed piles of snow in the parking lot were super slushy. Slushy = thaw.

Freestylers took the coarse backwards. Pretty light hearted event.

5 pm Dec 18 on CBS. Just started.

To be honest I don' t know... I'm unaware of the financial impact that downtime made. If the cost to prevent that down time outweigh the cost lost then yes it is acceptable. However, if the stakeholder haven't made a priority to have a strong web precense, that says to me, they aren't seeing much money coming from the web. I'm guessing it's not financially THAT important. Maybe I'm way off the mark. If the down time was in a few weeks, or over presidents/mlk day weekend totally different story. I can pretty safely say those are VERY important times for the site to be up, even if they don't have a huge web presense. ... do you know something I don't? Oh, and I'm always up for a rational debate/discussion. You're not attacking anyone, it's not an "argument"
-
Which circles back to my orginal argument that it didn't look like the website was a major priority of Blue's and unlike amazon, or walmart, Blue probobly doesn't have (want to spend) the money to spend on it. but ... Good to have another technical mind on the site anyways

Our hosting company simply provides the server the site to run on, and has a maximum bandwidth per month. No mention of load testing...
-
IT personel capable of using/analyzing output from a a test cost money. Based on how often the blue website is updated and the particular updates made I'm fairly certain their IT staff is pretty limited and/or not concerned with the website. You make valid points, but... In blue's case I'm not sure their website is a priority or a big money maker. If someone else is hosting the site, it seems unlikely they would do load testing specific to a particular client's business, but maybe I'm way off.

My shins don't hurt. It's actually at 30 ATM but it is a little over the top.

With a warm thaw and rapid refreeze the entire base turns from a mushy mess to a solid block of ice. You can drive a cat over it and turn up the top couple inches yielding light sugary snow. This is easily pushed aside even with minimal traffic uncovering that nasty block of ice again. You drive the cat over it again, you get that bit of sugar on top, but still ice underneath. I think it would take grooming the same trail several times before its starts to get managable. I'm not sure if that is realistic. Best case scenario is groom right when freeze up starts to happen so at least the block of ice has texture which can be ground up later, this leaves death cookies. It's largely a no win situation. If it's a big issue write a letter to CB management requesting mid-day grooming.
-
As someone mentioned with warm temps and a rapid freeze up, even if things are groomed conditions will quickly turn icey. Perhaps mid day grooming is the answer. Things will likely not be as bad (I wasn't there so I can't say for sure) as yesterday for the entire season. There is only so much that can be done to coupe with the weather, at some point you just have to realize, indeed this is pennsylvania, and indeed there will be icey days, despite whatever grooming efforts are made. Might as well learn to shred the ice as well as the pow

I suppose it would be 25, -15. I just assumed you guys knew I was riding duck. My brother rocks forward stance sometimes, but I've never messed with it.

You can fell if you are twisting your by where the pressure is on your feet. If the out side of your foot it pushed against the edge of your boot, you need to increase your binding angle a little. If its the inside decrease a little. If neither you're probobly fine... unless you want to force a certain stance for one reason or another. I go for comfort. As skitzo mentioned, it might be your high back, although, you will notice it digging into your calf. If thats not the issue it may be something else like technique or lack of conditioning. It's hard to say without seeing/feeling whats going on. I think for the average recreational trail rider, 15 - 0 is the "starting point." 15-15 if you do alot of switch riding. I think my setup is something like 25-15, I don't really play with it that much though.

Hmm, I hadn't even considered out west.... Perhaps it's a liability issue. PA doesn't have legal backing for mountain related accidents like other western states do. Perhaps for safety reasons, having lights on to spot people poaching trails... idk. Yesterday was on mountain training for instructors. That may explain employee/guest unbalance. I don't think early in the season is a very profitable time, but it is important to get things rolling so they can make money when the crowds come. You know, if they didn't open till 3-4 days before christmas they could be real efficient, but that wouldn't be very much fun for us now would it?!?!

The lights are needed for snowmaking, grooming, and its a great advertisment. I can see them from my school 6+ miles away on the other side of the mountain! Also those aren't "consumer" lights. Those lights take time to warm up. The more times they are turned on/off the less life they have. Easier to turn on when it gets dark then turn off when its light rather than, turn off when the mountain closes, back on when grooming/making snow on that trail, back off till morning etc.

And online retailers make big money and can afford to do extensive testing on their servers. I bet the money Blue lost while their server was down was pretty minimal. If walmart or amazon goes down a few hours I bet they can show a pretty significant profit loss.

That too...

Well... you blew it for the team. Topic closed.
