  1. How do you know she's agnostic? ... and even if she is, Christmas seems to have less and less to do with faith each year. but still, I nearly laughed out loud at work when I read that!

You ain't kiddin' But I got what I wanted out of it!
  3. If the temps do rise a little, hopefully the mountains will have blown enough to withstand a warm spell. It looks like over the next 10 days it should not be too bad (weather.com) with temps still dropping below freezing overnight in the Poconos (using Blakeslee, PA as a refernce point) We had an awesome "Autumn" skiing, now lets do everything we can to make it an ever better winter!

    Ski tune up

I have not seen the skis yet. Hopefully they will arrive late this week, or early next. I will only get the base grind if they are gouged. If they look good, I will just go with the sharpen and wax. I am starting to get excited Well, thank you for the compliment ... but I am not sure how fast I am any more. Its been 2 years since I have been on skis and 5 years since racing. I think that NASTAR would be a good place to start if I got into racing again, but I think for this season I am just going to concentrate on ripping the whole mountain on the skis and improving my snowboarding.

    Ski tune up

I raced two seasons for the University of Toledo in Ohio. I was actually recruited to play tennis for them, which I did for 3 years, but I had to take some time off in the middle to complete my co-ops for my engineering degree. So I figured I would join the ski team since I had skied since I was a little kid and giving racing a try. I had a blast and loved it. Now I have moved towards snowboarding to learn something new, but maybe these xscreams will give me the bug again. Sweet, thanks for the advice Will the tip get me same day service?

    Ski tune up

I have tuned my own skis in the past, when I used to race in college. What I am asking about here is what if the skis need more than just a wax and edge sharpening. I have heard of a machine that can practically make the base of a ski new and I am wondering if anyone knows of a shop that has one of those. Thanks

    Ski tune up

I purchased a pair of salomon xscream series 179 last night off of ebay, I have always wanted those skis since they came out and got a good deal (at least I think I did). The auction said "only skied 1 day," whether thats true or not ... who knows . My question is where would you recommend that I take them to get tuned (waxed and sharpened) and/or resurfaced if they need it? I know that only certain places have the right equipment to do the job correctly, I just don't know which places. Thanks for the help!
  9. No, I do not know something you don't. Just lucky for Blue that they are not more of an "All inclusive" resort that offers reservations through their website like Killington and some other larger resorts. Then the downtime this week could have affected reservations for the Christmas week.
  10. Not trying to start an arguement here, just want your opinion. If you were a stakeholder with Blue Mt ... Do you think that the down time, especially this time of year, was acceptable?
  11. And thats why I wrote... Depends on how the contract was set up. There are always different service levels that are available for additional $.
  12. Actually, it would be very likely for the hosting company to do that type of testing, thats what they do and thats how they convince companies to use their service. Also, a lot depends on how the contract was written. The company doing the hosting should know that the site will see more traffic during the winter months and Blue should have made sure that down time was included in the contract.
  13. Stress testing is not a difficult task, nor is it expensive. There are several utilities, some free, that can mimic high traffic and bandwidth loads on a server. If someone else is hosting the site for Blue, which I assume is the case here, they should be performing this as a service as uptime and Mean Time Between Failure is written into almost every contract for web hosting. Blue Mt and other ski resorts now rely on their websites to free up staff from having to answer phones to answer questions about rates, lessons, and conditions. You can also buy lift tickets online and pick them up at kiosks in Blue's main lodge. The Internet is becoming more of a resource in almost any industry, and if used properly, can drive profits and the bottom line.

    capstraps?

My bad. I just read on snowboard magazine's website that Burton and Technine developed them "jointly" I was close ...

    capstraps?

I have them, got 'em at the end of last season cause my toes were going a lil numb. Other than relieving that, I have not noticed any "performance" gains with them. I was in Sports Authority last weekend and noticed that they sell the Burton branded ones. I bought my online and got the technine ones, which I believe makes them for burton.
  16. You would think that they, or who ever hosts their site, would do stress tests on their server before the winter season to make sure they can handle the additional load. This is standard practice for any organization that has a web site that deals with increased seasonal traffic. Online retailers, such as Amazon.com and Walmart.com, do this generally some time in early October to avoid being down during the holiday rush.
  17. Their site has been down for 2 days now

  19. 1:15 to Bear Creek 1:35 to Blue 2:10 to Camelback This is all if I leave before traffic gets terrible on the Schuykill Expressway through Philly.
  20. Wawa has been growing. They are now in PA, NJ, MD, and VA. When I was in school in Ohio I missed Wawa big time. The first thing I would do when I would get home from school on my breaks was go get a hoagie and a tastykake from Wawa.
  21. Meatball hoagie with mayonaise = uber amazing don't knock it til you try it ... just ask poconoceancity
  22. It is impossible for them to open with 95%. If you look at the math you need at least 20 trails to get that percentage. The only way for them to be above 95% is for them to open with 100% of their trails. I believe they have 17 trails (though on the website it says 18 but that counts the snow tubing) so for each trail closed that is 5.8% closure and Saturday they had at least 2 trails closed.

  25. Thank you for the information Mary. Is there any particular reason this was not offered to us? We explained to the woman at the ticket window that my gf was a beginner.
