  1. I was there Sunday morning by myself. Hitting the "singles" line made things a little easier, but by 10:30 things started getting bad. I stayed over on the Stevenson's lift which normally takes longer to crowd up, then I hit the Raceway lift, then bailed. I got about 16 or 17 runs in, mainly Cliffy, Pharoa, and Raceway. As I was leaving the line of cars coming in was pretty crazy. I am glad a left when I did. The only way to do CB is early morning, I wish they opened at 7:30 like Blue ... oh well.
  2. I am playing "hookie" from work tomorrow, anyone going to be at CB in the morning?
  3. CB was great today. Cliffy was ungroomed and a lot of fun. I actually hit some stuff deep enough that stopped me dead and I fell right over into it. I have never enjoyed falling that much before I was there with my bro and a friend of his. We got there at 8:15 and left at 11:00. We ran into Glenn at the bottom of Stevenson's after our 3rd run and rode with him the rest of the day. Rt. 80 was fine, the roads to get from the house to 80 were pretty crappy, but the trip only took us 15 - 20 minutes longer than usual. It was a kick arse day though, got lots of freshies the first hour or so
  4. NASTAR is very tempting .. but most likely I will be on my board Saturday and I am not sure how I would handle doing gates. Plus, my bro likes to get out of there before noon because we have people back at the house waiting for us. We are going to be trying for first chair Sunday morning wish us luck!!! i think that next year I will be doing NASTAR for sure, I miss racing ... it's amazing how much better of a skier it makes you.
  5. I can't believe I will be there in 2 1/2 weeks!!!!!!!!
  6. Anyone plan on being at Camelback Saturday? My bro and I will be there, we normally get there between 8:00 - 8:30 AM, but I am hoping to be there before 8:00 due to the snow and get some great fesh tracks down Cliffy! I have yet to ski/ride with anyone from this board and hoping to change that soon. If you see me there (blue and oragne burotn jacket, blue quicksilver pants, blue helmet, blue goggles) please give me a shout. Saturday I will be on my board and Sunday skiing. We stay on Stevenson Express lift most of the time. Hope to see you there!
  7. Thanks for the advice, Papa and welcome back I am staying in the town of Dillon which is super close to Keystone, pretty close to Breck, and then Vail is about 30 minutes. Those are the 3 that I will be hitting, I am pretty much at the mercy of my buddy as I won't have a rental vehicle. I am sure that those 3 mountains are going to be more than enough for my first (and very hopefully not my last) trip out there. Now I have to get on Ebay to find a decent digital camera

    Dynastar Skis

Thanks, toast. With the side cut as pronounced as it is on those skis, thats what I was guessing. Just weird to be 6 feet tall and be on 165's ... but I bet they would be fun
  9. And I am the one that is about 75 yards behind him trying to keep up ...

    Dynastar Skis

My buddy is a rep for Dynastar and can get me a great deal . I am looking for some carving skis and found on their website the Contact S10. Here is what the site has to say about them: CONTACT ST 10 Rider Profile For technical on trail carving skiers who love to link perfectly executed turns Advantages Instant carving Exaggerated, technical carving sidecuts, short radius = 13m Responsiveness Autodrive Rebound System plate Grip and precision Autodrive Technology, oversized sidewalls Level Technical skiers-Carve their best Terrain Piste Technical Features AUTODRIVE REBOUND SYSTEM I am not sure what length to go with on skis that have such an exagerated side cut. I am thinking either a 165 or 172 Anybody have an opinion? Thanks
  11. I am going to ski 3 resorts: Vail, Keystone, and Breck. My buddy that lives out there is closer to Eagle county than he is Denver, so I paid the extra to fly to Eagle County so it would be more convenient for him. Its the least I could do since I am crashing on his couch for a whole week.
  12. I won't be there exactly on my birthday ... but close enough. I don't know about snowmobiling, I think that I will just attempt to take in the sites and scenery. Unfortunately I will be in the middle of a class as well, so I am sure some of my day off will be spent doing work for that I will be sure to post updates, I have a lot to live up to after your trip
  13. Well I am finally heading out west! I have a buddy that is on the patrol at Keystone and has been there since the winter of 2003 - 2004. For some reason I have kept putting it off and I finally grew a pair and, well today I got my vacation request approved, I am heading out March 1st - 8th. I had a little scare though when I asked for the time off. My boss informed me that I am supposed to head out to Seattle for work sometime in March, but he did not know the exact date. I found the guy that I am going with, and it turns out that he planned on going March 9th - 12th. So I am paying for the flight from Philly to Eagle County (Vail) and then my company is paying for the flight to Seattle and then back to Philly . I plan on skiing 2 days, riding 3, and having 1 day just to take in the rockies. As a bonus my bday is in March and my girl is going to buy whatever lift tickets I need to pay for outside of the 2 or 3 vouchers I am getting from my buddy. I am so excited, I can't stop using this smiley --> For those of you that have been out there can you receommend any places that I absolutely have to see? Now I have to buy a digital camera for the trip .... this is going to be soooo sick ....

    Vert

I believe that is a VERY generous 510 ft ...

    ski sizing?

Another thing to consider is surface area of the ski. A straight 200cm, from back in the day, and a 180cm shaped ski, depending on the side cut, could have the same surface area and be suitable for the same skier. Thats why it is difficult these days to just go by height, but as Jeff mentioned, it is a good place to start.

    Bode's R&R

Yes he is, but hopefully this will get us more coverage of the alpine skiing in the upcoming olympics.

    rusted edges

I agree. These can be found in almost any ski shop and are very inexpensive. They are soft leaving almost a 0 chance of damaging edges. I have 2 of my own and have come in very handy over the years.
  18. I raced in college for the club team and had a blast. I was a member of the inaugural team and the first season we only had enough people once to actually qualify for a team score. It was in Ohio where the mountains are mole hills, but it still was a great time.
  19. I would have to go at least one time to check it out. If it wasn't super crowded I could see going once, maybe twice a month. Definitely once is started getting colder out, late October/early November, and I got antsy to get out there, I could see going more often, but I bet it would be super crowded that time of year.
  20. I have had fried Oreos, but not at Blue. My roommate and I were at Drinkers Pub in Philadelphia and they had fried Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Oreos, and Twinkies. We couldn't help ourselves and had to order the oreos and twinkies. The twinkies were ok, but the fried oreos were unreal! Fried candybars/cookies have to be the ultimate white trash food.
  21. As far back as I can remember the week between Christmas and New Years has always been a "Holiday" in the eyes of ski resorts. I knew that back when I started high school over 10 years ago. Right from BC's site ... "Holidays include 12/25/05-1/1/06, 1/16/06 and 2/20/06"
  22. I'll be a C-back all winter as well, starting Jan 1 & Jan 2, then (hopefully) every weekend there after. If you see poconoceancity, I shouldn't be too far behind! I, too, look forward to riding/skiing with so many from this board. I am very excited that I have been on the snow 4 days already and have a solid 3 more months to go!
  23. Just like when I worked at Best Buy while in college, the employees had to park in the furthest spots away from the store. I don't think that there is a better way to show customer appreciation, especially to the die-hards that get there so early, before the customers set foot in the lodge or on the mountain.
  24. My bro and I were there this morning, pulled in the bottom parking lot at about 7:30 and were on the snow around 7:45 or so. The conditions were great first thing in the morning, it ALMOST made getting up at 4:30 AM worth it. Not sure how many runs we got it ... maybe about 12 before the line at the quad got crappie. We saw you several times, once we were one chair behind you, and other times we saw you ripping Challenge and Razors. I really like how you ride your edges and eat up the mountain, I can't wait to get my new (ebay) skis tuned and get on them and give my snowboard a break. 2 weekends away from our 3 month rental in the Poconos .... as Doug and Flava Flav say ... "Yeah Boyyyyyyyyyy!!!"
