I used one like over 10 years ago when they were still working the kinks out of the thing. From what I understand they are much better now. I would try to see if you could get one on Ebay or something because like you said they are way too expensive.
Although it beats the hell over hopping side to side over telephone books like I used to do.
Up until like 11 or so it is good. Then all the bennys get there and it the trails get packed with noobs and start getting skiied off. After about 5 or so the crowds thin out again.
The snow is supposed to start dumping tomorrow afternoon so that may actually chase people away early as bass ackwards as that sounds.
Thanks for the report!! I'm so stoked!!!!
Reports are calling for the heaviest snowfall on Sat night!! Supposed to get an inch or so more Sunday AM.
I'm losing it right now. All I can think about is hitting the Asp with some nice fresh stuff on it.
Sunday should be awesome after the natural snow mixes with what they are blowing on the mountain now. It'll make up for last weekend!
Yeah that is a good idea. You really can't see the terrain until you are at the lip. I've already seen a bunch of people heading down it in a snowplow.
Unless you hit it early Hump gets skiied off fast. It's total hardpack on top by the PM. Personally, with the bumps now, I think Rocket should be marked double D.
Cliff is a lot wider and you can usually find some good surface.
This is too funny!!!!
It's really maddening when somebody is making sure that there isn't any debris left in the middle of the trail from a groomer running over a branch or sign or anything else in their path. Those power mongers are the ones who post the conditions for the trails and mark off any nasty ruts or hidden pipes. (Sometimes finding the stuff the hard way, ouch!) Not to mention they have to drag you down in a sled when you bust your butt.
The solution to the parking problem = get there earlier. The people who work the late shift in the day have the same problems you do with parking. We just suck it up as part of the deal. Just like the ice on the trails. In a perfect world there would be a mountain side parking space for everyone. And we'd be getting 6 inches of fresh powder each day.
Don't get me wrong, I really like patrolling but you guys (instructors) seem to have a lot of fun. Well when you aren't getting yelled at for hiking up the mountain above the closed lifts. Doh!!!
I can honestly say the majority of the staff at Camelback is really nice. Anytime I needed a hand to take care of someone the rest of the staff always helped out. I even had a groomer go in the woods to get some guys ski one time at the top of the Stevenson.

Check your email. I am looking for a ride up to Camelback for Friday after work and comming back Sunday. I live and work in the Princeton area. I could help you out with $$ for gas.
Also I know some people who are buying a place up there and are trying to get the spare space rented. I don't think they are asking for a lot either.
I started ski patrolling there last year. To patrol you need to take the OEC course which is based on the basic EMT course but has special protocols for ski patrollers. The patrollers at CB are very cool and that is one of the main reasons I came here. They are always looking for people to patrol so feel free to stop by the patrol room.
