As per a late phone call last night I've got myself a ticket to head up to WVIA day. I'll be up around 9ish i guess. I snowboard, with a red and tan jacket and black pants. I'll be cruising the mountain alone today so feel free to say hi! Any other PASRers going to be out today?

Whoo! Elk was awesome today. Snow was soft and falling for most of the day. Tunkhannock was phenomenal, soft ungroomed snow with some nice bumps. Pretty cold, and I had to be a 4 layer player and use my facemask for the first time, but overall it wasn't a really big deal. Flat light all day was kind of lame but some primo conditions and hardly anyone there definitely made it a phenomenal day. I think I saw Moe a few times, he was a chair ahead of me and I saw him on the trail from the lift but I never got a chance to say hi.

There is a chance I'll be around tomorrow. Wednesdays are college days there, can't beat it.

Other than gaper day, skiing drunk sounds like a terrible idea. not to mention the fact that the guy's poor camelback will never be the same again after being filled with cranberry and vodka.
-
I definitely will! I'll be out a fair bit, around my trip to the Penn State Bowl game in Florida of course, but I'm sure I'll see you at Sno.
-
Did anyone go up there? I wonder how the snow was on day 1 since I am stuck studying for finals and not riding.

Even bad news is better than no news. Thanks Mark!

Ah, basketball, the death of a ski season. 100% worth it in my opinion, but its nice to just have rec league games now, frees up a lot of time for the slopes!

Don't get me started on mileage. I pull 30 miles worth of commute each day, and I haven't been closer than 130 miles from home on a weekend in months so I'm averaging something like 430 miles a week and I haven't even been on the snow yet!

Are they really blowing into that thing again? They could save themselves a boatload of time and effort and not to mention money if they invested in a few sheets of plywood.
-
If I had to venture a guess, they probably have guns on mainline, the bunny, whistler or spike (probably whistler) and on the bottom most likely cannonball getting the most attention followed by smoke or boomer. Just a total guess though since I haven't been up and their website doesn't show which trails are getting the snow.

Didn't know these were such a big deal, my brother has a pair like them. I think they are rossis.

I could see the website making a world of difference to someone trying to plan a weekend away. In general people are pretty dumb, shiny vs. dull is what they see. Its like trying to sell a house. Should the pictures on the wall and the way the furniture is arranged help to sell a house that will be completely empty when you move in? No, but we'll all agree that it can be the difference between selling or not, and and at what price.

That was supposed to be a joke about tree runs and natural awesomeness that we don't have in PA. guess it didn't get conveyed well in text form.
-
I bet they don't even groom a lot of the mountain there.
-
at first glance that new logo reminds me of the Shoppes at Montage logo.
-
I don't see anyone around here making sacrifices to the snow gods this year, maybe that's our problem.

I was specifically thinking of myself on Gaper Day I suppose. What would be better than cruisng Lazy 1.6K with a pulled pork sandwich in one hand and a brew in the other.
-
I think the stands on the snow will definitely get used by some of the people that ordinarily wouldn't eat because they didn't want to deal with getting off their gear.

Putting the turbines in the middle of a migration route would be great for the birds! The outrageously stupid ones who get hit by gigantic windmills will be killed off and the population would be better off genetically. I'd say its a win win.
-
That would be awesome to see a Turbine or 7 at the top of Blue. The benefits to them financially (after they paid them off) would be entirely worth it to them. Not to mention the huge publicity they could get by advertising as a fairly "Green" mountain. I think wind turbines are awesome. I'm glad America is getting on the ball and installing more and more of them. A few years ago I saw them in the Netherlands and I was awestruck at the outrageous amounts of them there. It just seemed like the perfect solution. I love alternate energy solutions. I'm actually working on a little geothermal project now down by Arrowhead lake. As much as I love fossil fuels, I just got my acceptance letter into the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, I know we need to get on the ball and start using all the other energy sources out there.

For the first 2.3 seconds I was like "wow, thats intense and kinda cool". Then i just got pissed. That is truly the biggest waste of time, effort, snow and resouces I've ever seen in my life. For the fans of the X-games and the ones who think that halfpipe is sweet, good for you. I hope you get pumped to see this and you buy gallons and gallons of redbull. For those of us that actually get out and ride, I'm glad they found a good place to take Blue's old pipe, hope that remote peak enjoys it, because we're going to have more fun without it.

Tele just seems like it would be a sick skill to have under my belt. Its hard to argue and say that its not the best way to do some alpine adventuring. I kind of see it like navigating by the stars. Not really all that useful in today's society, but something that I would feel great about knowing how to do.
