So you'll never ever make a trip back up north to ski again Melissa? I feel bad for you.
-
I can believe it. How was your first Parade Day? I know you'll be road tripping back up next march haha.

Glacial Stratigraphy!!!! My favorite!!! Seriously, i'm a bit of a nerd -
There is also some sort of coupon that you can use. The lady that parked next to me in the lot gave me one after we chatted about conditions while we booted up. It is good for a $15 lift ticket for anyone so you don't need a college ID. It was a weird coupon though. A sticker stuck to a piece of a beer box.

So can they be used by anyone else other than the original ticket purchaser? Just curious.

So today I went up Elk to take advantage of their college discount on Wednesdays. You can get a day ticket for $15 with a college ID. So I got up there around 10 am a little wary of the forecast which called for some rain before noon. I showed up to very cloudy skies and a very very heavy fog on the top of the mountain. I met up with my two cousins, one of them being PASR's very own Pyro_boarder, and hopped on the double to the top. The top of the mountain was an absolute soup, you couldn't see more than 3 chairs in front of you on the lift, and it was bad visibility wise on the trails too. On the upside, the snow was incredible. Smooth extremely carvable but not very soft or slushy, it was actually a pretty fast snow. It of course softened up during the day, but never got really bad. We spent most of the morning skiing off of the quad and had a great time. The snow was in mid winter form. Great base depth all over the mountain and edge to edge coverage, with some snow in the woods! Just a few spots where the snow had cracked and slid away on a trail or 2, but other than that it was great. Not a single spot of brown on my board at all at the end of the day. There really weren't that many people there today which definitely helped the snow stay amazing. Everyone I saw today was a top notch skier or boarder so the trails only had smooth carve lines on them rather than scraped away snow. I was being a 2 layer player with my underarmour and just a fleece and nothing on my head for the majority of the day. The fog lasted for quite a while but started to break after we had lunch around 1. After that the sun came out and the fog burned away nicely. I had to open up my fleece a little bit to get air in there. Snow got a little slushy towards the end of the day, but only in really high traffic areas like the tops and bottoms of lifts. All in all it was an unbelievable day, and if you guys need to get out and get the feel of January in March you should hit up Elk.

Non transferable? How does that work?

Last year was a lot easier. They are doing spring fling now though so if any of you blue regulars could snag one or 2 for me when i come up this week that would be appreciated.

Are we still on for Gaper Day this Saturday? Yes? No? Maybe so? Would really help for me to know so i can get some gaperific gear.

Great report! I'm really jealous right now. That trip looked sick on so many levels. Congrats for going out and thanks for the well written report!

Waxing is actually really fun for me most of the time. I multi task with a boarding video or a game, and have a drink or 3 while doing it. Something that is really fun is when I have a little "waxing party" and invite some other riders over the night before a trip and we tune up the gear, have some brews and some laughs before hitting the snow the next day.
-
You can do both. Thats what I was doing when I waxed.
-
Exactly. I did it last week and the scrapings which are usually snow white were coming off black as soot. It looked like I had a pile of ash at the end of it. It will suck up dirt you can't even see and pull it out for you!

Now that I think about it the 14th isn't that bad. I can Gape it up in the morning and then probably be at the parade by 2ish.
-
Well we can't have a Gaper Day without you guys.
-
This is tough. For the 14th, I'm home on Spring Break, but it is also Scranton's Parade Day. On the 21st I would have to drive to Blue from State College. What about making it Sunday the 15th? (I know Saturdays are better but I'm just throwing it out there.)

Blue re-visited. My report. Parks still have same issues.

I'm starting to question whether or not TT C6 actually rides or if he's just posting here for the fun of it. -

TT C6, is there a single park in the world that you actually like? It seems that every time you post about a mountain it is a rant about how terrible it is. -
it would probably be easiest to just call them and try to talk to a manager of some sort.
-
Sounds like fun! Can i come?

I went to Mittens this season and I love them. I've got standard ratchet bindings and have never had any kind of trouble strapping in with them.
-
I've got a "convertible" strap too, on a pair of K2s. Has never been an issue of slippage.
-
Good call TT C6, there is actuallyl a chapel on the mountain that will be having services if you want to hit it up. Toll road will take you to it.
