  1. For now.....
  2. When you get to the point that the feature would be the same with or without the bulldozer underneath it its pretty obvious that this isn't a serious park feature, but instead a marketing ploy. I"m not knocking blue, its brilliant from a business perspective. Its pretty dumb from a riding perspective though.
  3. They've got those things at Sno
  4. How flexible would they be as far as length of employment? I'll be coming home for Christmas break for nearly a month and my parents are pushing me to get some hours somewhere during that time.
  5. I will definitely agree with you glennt the valley is one weird place. Its a place you absolutely hate when you're here, but you miss it everytime you leave. People from here are different, just plain different. It really doesn't make too much sense but its true. I'm definitely a little different than the people around me here, but I think I can attribute that to the fact that I'm reasonably well traveled, and I seem to be able to adapt to any situation that I'm in for some reason. There are definitely some places I will never be able to be comfortable in i.e. South Philly or a Texas ranch, but for the most part within the extremes I am able to formulate my thoughts into a medium that is well received by the people around me. Weird stuff happens all the time around here and you just kind of go with the flow. Its definitely a unique place. You can drive for close to an hour north/south and its just cities and towns, go 5 minutes east/west and you're in the mountains. This crazy juxtaposition of people and activities makes for some interesting folks. Especially when you have the two meeting every day in school. Another thing is that while we are relatively close to NY and Philly, its two hours as opposed to the lehigh valley's one. Until recently, this has kept the city people out, and all the valley people in. Its the kind of place where You know everyone in your school district, but its still a decently sized metropolitan area. I kind of find it hard to describe fully in words (especially right now cuz its kind of late). The dynamic of the valley is so unique. I think it would be interesting for me to try to describe it though. If anyone wants me to actually put some thought I can definitely try to get something together tomorrow. Nope, no relation to those guys. Even though the time I took my cousin from cooperstown to scranton he made me stop in front of it so he could take a picture for his friends. As for the mafia in the region, they had a very very strong presence back in the day but as of late it has been declining. A lot of the families lose their power when the older members start to die off and the kids don't take over. I know of an example personally where the son who graduated a year before me was just so stupid and incompetent he couldn't take it if he wanted to.
  6. Well then how about you don't charge $70 on a lift ticket in the beginning? Or ever for that matter. $70 is a lot of money to pay to go skiing for one day. You can go to 7 days worth of boulder's college day for that :blink
  7. I am a 100% certifiable Valley person. I live halfway between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, there are mountains around me and when I try to talk to people outside of the valley they think I'm nuts. That being said I have no idea where one would come up with the idea that they wouldn't want to mess with valley people. We're generally pretty nice. While the valley does have a fair number of gangsters, Glenn is right, none of them ever go skiing. The only "sketchy locals" I can think of as of right now would be the rictor beez.
  8. Where are they racing?
  9. Do you have any inside info parkbuilder? Even if you don't want to go into specifics which is understandable, just reassure me that i'm not gong to be blowing my money on an early season trip to killy.
  10. Great news! Thanks insidesno. I am so impressed by the progress Sno has made in such short time. I can only imagine what they can do in the long run.
  11. weather is always iffy, but if thats totally different than having snowmaking temps and not using them to save some money or only opening the top of the mountain so they don't lose much to a thaw. The vibe I got from that article was that killy is going to half ass it at the beginning of the year to save some cash so they can make all the Christmas weekers and people who go for president's day happy. I understand that everything comes down to money in the end, but there are a lot of things in this would that people absolutely live for like skiing. I know everyone on this board would feel very empty without skiing/snowboarding. For a lot of people, this isn't a fun getaway, its a way of life. To tell absolute die hards who keep this sport progressing and moving forward that they can't have the snow that they need because there aren't enough bunny slope families coming up from NYC seems very unfair and hurtful.
  12. :banghead This sounds terrible. Sounds like we'll be lucky to get one top to bottom run for the first weekend of december when PSSC heads up there.
  13. i'll take your word for it tp4, i can barely skate down the street
  14. Its inside a ski lodge, how big do you really want it?
  15. They put up some pics of the deck outside and the halfpipe inside. http://snomtn.com/images/indoorhalfpipe.jpg http://snomtn.com/images/deck.jpg
  16. You should have taken amtrak!!
  17. Its right up by boulder. my memory is fuzzy but i know i passed it going there once. Is within a mile or 2 of boulder though for sure.
  18. Nice tip Ridge Racer. I'll definitely scout one of those out.
  19. Tussey is right, but we never go to boulder. This is going to be a tough call. Boulder had the best park and "park scene" which I feel goes a long way, last year. I'm sure they're going to progress again this year. However I'm seeing a ton of promise in Sno's park. Sno will definately have a bigger park than boulder this year, I guess it will come down to maintenance. Whoever keeps theirs in the best shape will have the best park.
  20. Penn State can be as snobby as an Ivy League, or they will let anyone in like a CC. It kind of depends on what you're into. If you're willing to go to a branch campus, anyone with a pulse can "go to penn state". Main campus as a freshman is pretty tough. Depending on what you're going for its either hard to get into or pretty easy. You obviously don't exactly need straight A's if you want to come here for business or turfgrass, but you better damn well be close to a 4.0 if you want any chance of main campus for engineering.
  21. I could imagine midster. I signed up and paid for it last year but didn't end up going because they cancelled it haha. I guess it was for the best because I missed a pretty weak trip and got all my money back. I'm really hesitant about signing up for it this year too. Last year was a major fluke that people got refunds so I'm not really counting on it again if i sign up and try to bail. I've got to make a decision by thursday though because thats when the meeting about the trip is. I just don't want to drop some "mad squilla" as Doug would say on a bunny hill and snow guns in my face the whole time. Plus its going to be the first weekend I'll be 21 so I'll definitely be having a good time if i stay home...
  22. You gonna party? I don't have class on Tuesday until 1:30pm
  23. Last time I went to killy it took roughly 12 hours to get there from psu. We had to stop 3 times because its a rule for the bus drivers on long trips like that. it was snowing heavy in VT which slowed us up a ton and then there was a little incident involving the new york state police, a stolen bike, and kids with cancer. the trip back was better, but still took just under 10 w/ all the stops and the fact that a bus doesn't fare well in snowy and windy VT roads. Apparently there really aren't a whole lot of big highways in that state.
  24. My main concern is that the disco box will still be there :
