  1. Well if anything at all happens they only have 6 months to figure it out and implement it before we all show up there again.
  2. I saw a guy biking on the trail last night with a bandanna around his face and I thought, "no matter how much it doesn't make sense to be masked in certain situations there will always be people who do it". Less than a minute later I slammed into a swarm of gnats so thick I heard them ticking off my helmet and had to look down to keep them out of my face. Moral of the story, I'm not going to judge maskers, they might know something I don't.
  3. What do you guys think of the question on the ballot this Tuesday about making sure the state legislature has power in terms of emergency declarations? https://www.dos.pa.gov/VotingElections/Pages/Joint-Resolution-2021-1.aspx
  4. Top notch film
  5. Interesting Read https://www.5280.com/2019/11/a-complete-list-of-everything-alterra-mountain-company-owns/
  6. To a non skiing management group though they probably don't quite care about that and would not be able to quantify any kind of return so it'll get skipped over.
  7. But would Blue's hotel have a ski through tunnel? Or a hot tub on the roof?
  8. Beaver Stadium has a few on the ground level in the really old bathrooms. A bar in State College has a stainless steel angular trough as well.
  9. I just turned my heat back on
  10. Good to see the US trending downward. India literally can't seem to get out of its own way with Covid. With a population density 4.5 times that of the US people are just constantly in contact there. I'm sure there are some other factors but that one certainly can't be helping.
  11. The real wager is top bunk vs bottom bunk on this ski trip.
  12. I forgot they had midwest places. OK you've got me there. Using this logic though, do you think they will care to run boulder well, or just be happy that it breaks even?
  13. Bean counters yes, operations folks, maybe not is what I'm trying to say. Super weird in that the Poconos are quite different than Vail's other properties. For the rest of Vail's portfolio people are traveling a long way to get there, often flying, definitely staying and likely spending multiple days. Mountains are located closer to each other, are relatively similar and are pulling from day tripping major metro markets in the Poconos from people with a different mindset as to what a day of skiing entails. I just get the feeling that there could definitely be some things lost in translation.
  14. I would love to be a fly on the wall of a Vail meeting where they talk about Big Boulder and Jack Frost. To me the issue is that you've got a resort group that doesn't fully understand the ins and outs of the super weird market that the Poconos is. At vail corporate I would be shocked if there are many people who naturally think that snow tubing is a big part of the ski business. Even if that was communicated to them when they bought the place it's hard to break preconceived notions. Eventually they will either figure it all out or they simply won't and the place will be seen as a loser to them. I doubt they will think too much about last year since it was a pandemic and everything was all sorts of messed up. Maybe they give boulder 5 years to see what happens but their attitudes need to change about daily operations if it's going to survive.
  15. I think as soon as we see lights being installed at Jack Frost we know the end is near for Boulder. Until then they fill a regional night skiing need.
  16. Regardless of where on the two mountains this lift ends up it will surely be a different length than what it was replacing. When lifts get bought and moved do they typically order a new cable or is there a safe and economical way to cut and shorten or splice and lengthen the existing one?
  17. Anti-vaxxers in a few months will just be like people who ski in jeans. You can tell them to get snow pants all you want but at the end of the day they are the ones doing it to themselves.
  18. Quick numbers here: Total Population of PA: 12,702,379 Adult Population eligible for Vaccines: 10,060,284 Adult Population Fully Vaccinated: 3,239,152 Percentage of Adult Population Fully vaccinated: 32% Worst case scenario we can give 100k shots per day across the state which is probably fairly low, and we can be fully vaccinated as a commonwealth in 5 months.
  19. At a certain point it might sound harsh but this is how it's going to be.
  20. 100% agree with this. Not only do you not really build a relationship with your professors but you don't get to know your cohort as well either. Hopefully that changes soon but we've really only hung out once so far as a group. You'll have to shoot me a message and let me know her name so I can take one of her classes.
  21. I don't like virtual at all, but that's just me. I know a lot of people do like it and I completely get the convenience factor but I just get much more out of actually going to a class.
  22. To jump on the college news bandwagon here. Villanova has brought its graduate schools back onto campus for the summer session and are anticipating 100% of classes will be in person in the fall.
  23. I just took a peek at the stats page and one thing that really stood out is that almost everyone skied more days this year than last year. That's pretty awesome. WTGAI PASR!
  24. If you go to the pine hill vista there are a series of gates along the road. For the most part they are open and way back in the day you were able to drive all the way to the the top more often than not. The very last gate which has been closed the last few times I've been there has some large boulders along the side of it. I have a feeling that they were placed there due to the tracks I left and a (few broken small trees) by driving my jeep around the gate when I was in college. Went back about 3 weeks after that and the gate was locked again and the rocks were on the sides
