Colorado Road Trip - Telluride, Silverton, Crested Butte, Aspen
Schif replied to AtomicSkier's topic in Other Mountains
Say hi to @skiincy while in Denver. I'm itching to get back West again. Can't wait to keep following this thread. -
Sounds like a familiar problem of some here. Also I'm out. Can't swing the day off right now.
-
My feet aren't that giant. What's the average boot size? I'm in 28.5. Sneakers and snowboard boots are size 12
-
Please do. Just take it to the train thread.
-
Pump up that tire ASAP. Otherwise all I want is reports on food, hotel, snow, and lifts.
-
I cannot tell you guys how bummed I am right now. I know I shouldn't complain because I was able to get out but I was on the snow for an hour and 45 minutes tonight and only managed to get 4 runs in. 3 of those were fun dips into the woods but still. I felt like I had gotten to a steakhouse late, they had run out of steaks and I had to wait an hour for only a salad.

All this talk about shoveling, and snowblowers and stuff and I'm over here with a well plowed parking lot and sidewalks that are shoveled for me. I didn't even bother digging my car out. I have a cover for the windshield I just peeled off, shooshed the snow off of the side windows, rear window, and hood with my old mittens and backed my AWD over the snow behind me and scooted my way to work today.

This place is a zoo right now. The average age/demeanor could be described as Bud Light

Turnpike is just wet. Be at Bleu in half an hour. Anyone still there?

I support the decision to start a new trip report thread. Keep things nice and neat by separating trips. So Please don't fuck it up with dumb posts. Dak action only please

That video was fantastic. So happy you guys got after it
-
That's pretty epic guys. Glad you were able to get after it today!

It's all sleet here in Exton
-
The parking lot is always giving out free refills. I've never seen anyone's cup run dry out there.

So technically you can add me to the list of who was in the house today. I was up in NEPA to deal with a death in the family and wasn't planning on getting out at all today but with the impending weather and a slew of nervous relatives around I was shipped out early. Stopped at Blue and got on my snowboard around 2:45. 5 quick runs while the snow was falling really steadily. My schedule in the next few days is up in the air and I very much doubt I'll be able to get out and enjoy this snow when it's fresh but who knows. I'll be traveling with my snowboard so we will see what happens.

Razors was ROTD for sure but switchback was fantastic too. Did anyone else notice the root rollers down at the bottom of the falls? That were certainly interesting.

That one picture with the snowy trees could legitimately win a photography contest. Maybe send it Blue Mountain so they can use it for their website to promote night skiing.

That's a great groomer cruise, but if you ever go into the lodge for a beer or something my favorite run is to take the Shuttle Lift from the lodge and then do the highlighted route below
-
Are they really making as much bank as we think though? Sure they are selling a decent number of tickets for inflated prices but they are losing out on the very high margin concessions in the lodge. This might be slightly offset by decreased staff but if I had to venture a guess a full cafeteria looks a lot better on the books than a full lift line.

One trail that I noticed you missed on the report is a sneaky and most times hidden one. A few years ago they cut a connector between Lower Runaway and Cannonball called Rattler. It's narrow, twisty and usually has some fun banks on the sides. Pretty easy to ski right past the entrance to it and not even know it's there but it is a fun little offshoot.

Great report. Night Skiing at Montage brings back some awesome memories.

Saturday morning for sure. Sunday might be a night session.

Season Pass Someone else can jump in on SUJOPO

Good for CB for making it a resort vacation destination. More people want to go there than they do all of the other mountains so that's a net positive for the sport. We are just a small minority that are going after a completely different dynamic. I think it's safe to say that Camelback has not been a ski resort since the early 2000s when Camelbeach really took off. I would say that the moment it switched over from a ski resort to what it is now was when they removed the alpine slide. And yes the mountain coaster is weird but Park City and Snowbird have them too and no one really complains.
