  1. Potential office closing tomorrow. If that happens I'll be up at some point.
  2. On just a quick glance on weather underground and accuweather, they are saying that there will be more accumulation down in Philly than up at Blue. Not great for the mountain, but maybe it'll get the city folk interested in skiing again and get some of them out which will in turn make Barb keep the place open longer.
  3. I'm a Wyoming Valley expert! What are your standards?

    Elk - 3/15/18

I used to go into the woods at Elk all the time when I was in high school. Some really awesome stuff off to the side of the resort boundary. I remember I came upon a house one time and rode up and over the deck. Also used to drop off the side of the one trail that returned you to the base from skiers right, go over a boulder and jump across the little creek to come out to the bunny slope.
  5. I think it's pretty cool to teach the kids a little about responsible spending and to an extent financial literacy. I got a joint bank account with my Dad when I was 13 so I had somewhere to put my paychecks from working at the golf course. Eventually I even got myself a debit card. I was one snazzy 15 year old walking around with my own plastic.
  6. I was about to guess the same thing. It's a lot easier now for people to travel past the Poconos for vacation out of NYC or Philly to a lesser extent. Why buy a vacation house in the woods when you can fly to the caribbean for $500
  7. Thats so awesome Sally, looks like you're living the dream!
  8. I hope there will be a TR coming about this later.
  9. Some solid points here too. I'm getting a glimpse at this kind of stuff with my girlfriend's little 8 year old brother. The kid is legit scared of physical harm. When I was that age I was probably afraid of the dark and maybe monsters, but I sure as hell wasn't scared of climbing a tree or crashing my bike. I don't know, I'm not a parent but I look at the way that this kid lives his life and I can't tell if its super weird, or if I'm just being an old dude looking back on the good old days. Maybe it's just the difference between growing up with a Sega Genesis and having your own iPad and X-box. Maybe he will want to get out and shred one day, but I'm getting the feeling that his parents will put him in a series of lessons first and after he falls down a few times he's going to get bored of it and want to go home.
  10. A theory I have for why people dropped out of snowboarding is that they primarily did it when they were younger for the social aspect of it, not necessarily because they were personally stoked on the sport. My brother skied for a long time but stepped away from it. Kind of coincided with him going to college and his ski buddies from back home spread out and didn't go as much. I think that the kind of people that stick with the sport long term are the kind of people that can do it alone. I think it's safe to say that everyone here on PASR has been up to the mountain solo and had an awesome time. Obviously it's awesome to hit up the mountain with a bunch of awesome people, and occasionally bbq and drink beer with them there, but it's not a prerequisite for getting out there and shredding.
  11. Halfpipes used to be awesome. I remember being 13 or 14 and getting super stoked to go to Camelback because they had a halfpipe and Montage didn't. By the time I was 17 I realized that I had never once been in a well maintained pipe and it was tough to ride a misshapen crusty ditch and I lost complete interest. I get the feeling that the drop in the park scene around here in PA is directly related to the downfall of snowboarding. You can see it all over. Fewer young kids on boards, less of a selection when you go to shops. Last Sunday I rode the lift with a guy and his little daughter, both on snowboards. I feel like this is where the next generation is coming from, shredding parents getting tiny little boards for their kids, not the hoards of teens getting snowboards for Christmas like when I was coming up. Totally a wild guess, but I'm getting the feeling that kids nowadays aren't really into hucking themselves down a mountain on their own anymore. There are 10,000 things to watch on the internet and TV now so the novelty of seeing the X games or something like that isn't striking a chord like it did for my generation and making kids want to get out and try snowboarding.
  12. Pretty much everyone I started snowboarding with back in the day has completely dropped off the mountain.
  13. Thursday night for me.
  14. Seriously amazing day. Yesterday is what it's all about. Good dudes, great grilling, sunshine, and awesome snow. Also serious hats off to Enjoralas. Man you have some serious skills. Very thankful and impressed.
  15. I could bring a table too, I just need to track down my caution tape before I commit to it.
  16. I'll bring a bottle of Champagne and I'll probably get a growler filled over the weekend. Also maybe bacon? Unless there are too many people who are Kosher.
  17. I monitor that pH daily anyway so it wasn't much of a burden.
  18. Last time I looked on WebMD it told me I had Aspirin poisoning.
  19. Thats what I was seeing. I feel like early afternoon will be the time it starts piling up.
  20. Hopefully both. What time do you guys think will be the sweet spot to be up at Blue tomorrow?
  21. Work is being lenient with "working from home" tomorrow. Hoping the roads are bad enough to avoid the office but good enough to get up to Blue
  22. Most warehouses are, but yeah Amazon is the worst.
  23. it's dumping like crazy in Blue Bell. Lights flickered twice already and a big tree branch already slammed into the window. Gonna be leaving soon.
