  1. You and the vast majority of skiers that were missing yesterday, praise the lord. Looking forward to another great day if they open the main lift. Not so great if it stays closed. :-(
  2. Wish there were more days like this one. -9F in the parking lot, -18F at the summit, wind chill -38F. Perfect!
  3. It would never occur to me to use anything other than the NOAA point forecast.
  4. Facebook weather? Huh?
  5. This week should be interesting. Tomorrow. Real temp -2, wind chill -25 Tuesday. (Not scheduled to ski, have to go to Kalispell) Real temp -7, wind chill -35 Wednesday. Real temp -6 Thursday. -3 Friday, whoa, heat wave at +4. Love this stuff.
  6. Looking up the pitch from the gorge area of Glory Hole. (I kept forgetting to take pictures today, so didn't have much to choose from.)
  7. No cold toes on me. No cold fingers. No frequent breaks. Remember, I dont have testosterone on my side.
  8. It was brutally cold today, 5 F with 20 MPH winds. Riding on Chair 1 was quite an experience. Butt flaps (I don't wear one, I have two pairs of pants on) help with that. There is one guy who wears one front and back and puts the front one up over his face on days like today.
  9. Can't deny, we've got the snow.
  10. Interesting picture from a few days back. Hoarfrost growing on the trees, the lichen, and even on icicles. .
  11. Yesterday. View to the south and west. Finally snow in the forecast, thank goodness. Yes, GSS, I ski this.
  12. Sib does NOT ski it, it is steep with densely packed trees at the base. Lose it and you'll slam into a tree. Not me, Jack. It is NOT hike to terrain. It is inbounds and has multiple access possibilities. Siblet skis it, of course.
  13. Pre-avy conditions on Haskill Slide. Due to the early, frigid dry powder we got, followed by wet, heavy snow then lots of sun, cracks have developed in Haskill Slide, which was closed today. Would not have wanted to be the guys setting up the netting.
  14. Some limited visibility today, but it was a traffic reducer.
  15. Lots of excitement here http://www.flatheadbeacon.com/articles/article/maggie_voisin_tabbed_for_winter_games/37518/
  16. A couple more. Click to enlarge
  17. Not sure. These things are so gradual, you know. I was using them today and the edge wasn't holding well, but I'm sure it just needs tuning. Could possibly be a sign of a loss of stiffness, though. Things are a bit firmed up lately due to ten days of no snow. Brought them home to be worked on, so will report back on the results Thursday. They still have camber. Bases and edges have plenty of material. They're my skinny skis, so normally only use them early season. This year's a mess weather-wise. Tons of snow and frigid temps early then no snow and blue sky for January. Crazy!
  18. When I had a job my skis wore out every 100 days. Now that I'm unemployed, it's amazing how long they last. Oldest pair has 155 days. Next pair has 197 (whoa, didn't know they were that bad..). Newest pair has 38 days.
  19. I only have a base grind every other year and even then tell them only enough to freshen the structure. You don't need all your scratches taken out. Just think of them as open structure!
  20. Yes, sometimes it's like skiing on sand here.
  21. Let me know how fast they are when it's minus ten.
  22. MLK Sunday with inversion:
