  1. We had The Right Fluff today. Was on my skinny skis and it was not an issue. Wish I had a few more days to get better before this showed up, though.

    7 deg

Good temps. We were up to that today.
  3. I was actually overdressed today. Came home and had to dry my mittens and balaclava, and my unmentionables. Only light winds and the sun was out, so -4 was quite warm.
  4. Just as a quick prediction, given that Whitefish Lake is already covered shore to shore with ice, the fog will be a lot less this season, yay! Last season was pretty bad.
  5. Conditions are excellent, like mid January. Place is 100% open. Didn't ski a lot, will build slowly. But powder, no hard pack, no dirt, no grass, excellent dry quality conditions. Hell, it's been mostly zero and below, the best conditions for snow quality. Warming up a bit later in the week.
  6. Skied today, but too lazy to post my own pic. Besides, tele is cool.
  7. They just opened the lifts to the summit. Delayed due to -50 F wind chills.
  8. Definitely. Some, like Haskill Slide, NBC, and Picture Chutes, that I will never ski.
  9. Franky, Doug, I don't recognize that as Elkweed. Elkweed had trees on it last I looked. Could maybe be Fault 3, which leads into Elkweed, but I've never entered from there. It LOOKS LIKE the top of Hogan's East alongside Elkweed. When I saw that label I had this "It's been a long summer" WTF feeling.. Will keep watching that, but.. when things are deep you can ski steeper stuff. I've skied all the places I've taken pictures of on my site.
  10. Crazy, whole posting was lost? Facebook video https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10152097556849309&id=30030734308&__user=691667487 YouTube video ,
  11. They're expecting 6000 people. I have a hard enough first day without dodging that many other people who are still figuring out how things work.
  12. At the house... not on the mountain.
  13. Clearly not talking about ski tuning. It's like $25 here.. Heck, right on the mountain, it's $29. Cheaper in town.
  14. I won't do binding work but I do most everything else. There are times when I take them in for a grind, but not often. Just did a slight structure refresh with OMG some sandpaper. We'll see how successful that was..
  15. The thing is, Doug, I don't worry about the temp that much other than saying if it's colder I need more clothes on. I'm not tracking it. They'd likely close the main lift here if it got really cold anyway, because of wind or mechanical issues, at which point I'd be cussing that I wasn't on the back or wherever.
  16. Definitely if you mean wind chill (-48f). Not sure if I've been out in below minus 20 if you mean air temp. It was several seasons back, I'd have to consult my notes...
  17. We're about to be slammed with an uncharacteristically cold blast for this early in the winter.
  18. I will make you feel better. We are not opening until Dec. 7.
  19. They only have lights on here where they have night skiing. Even on the nights there is no night skiing. Now, there's a high correlation between where they MAKE snow and the night skiing areas, but they don't need to make snow once they get going. They have groomers over the whole mountain working without any lights beyond what's on the groomers, so it's not for grooming. So, left with advertising. Looks cool though.
  20. These issues are huge in certain parts of the country, clearly not in the rainy mid Atlantic region. That aerated water blown into the sky didn't all fall down on the hill. And as it lays on the hill, it's not all melting into the ground it came from.I actually have water rights, and they are secondary to those of the town below me. I can only take a certain amount of water from the aquifer. The ski area has the same issue. Once the snowmaking pond is empty, that's it for the winter. We also have dark skies ordinances, which apparently don't apply to the ski area. Means I can't see the Northern lights as they are north of me.
  21. They have the lights on here too for grooming.
  22. I was there 24 years ago. Something tells me it's changed...
  23. The mountain doesn't even have complete voice coverage. The white area is probably the back side and Hellroaring Basin. I think the buildings have WiFi, tho.
