A dusting here:

If this post over on Epic is what it appears to be, a re-typing of the Powder list, along with the poster's comments, then we are pretty consistent: http://www.epicski.com/t/113869/best-resort-to-ski-powder/180#post_1494570

Hmmm...I got mine for going to a Warren Miller movie, certainly doesn't come with the pass. At one point I had three copies coming because of NASTAR, the movie and my own subscription, but once NASTAR left, the issues gradually disappeared. It might be that for DV and Vail, but just our visit numbers should tell you that our 11 spot jump is sort of weird.

I doubt if it's the ads we buy. For one thing, how big could our advertising budget be, given Vail gets 1,600,000 a year compared to our 290,000. More likely to be some kind of function of the way they get the surveys filled in. Personally, I haven't seen a survey in over 20 years. But...I get the sense that at some point it can be filled out online if you're watching for it. Does anyone know? Once it's online of course it can be jimmied. Not necessarily by the resort, but enthusiastic supporters.

One of the top vert guys occasionally wears TWO!!! LOL!

It depends on how many gapers decide to come here whether this is a win or not. After all, our weather was apparently voted #46. You have to be pretty hard core to ski here.

Our leap was so huge that I'm wondering how they weed out people answering the survey multiple times. It just doesn't seem possible for us to have gotten to number 11, above some of those other resorts. I guess they put a lot of weight on the Value aspect. I'm wondering if the same folks who got us to win the Native Eyewear Locals Only Project had a hand in this.

What actually happened is they dropped the speed events and the NorAms entirely. They have spun off the teams to the parents. Parents now pay all the coaches' salaries. Not sure on if the mountain is providing events support for free or what, of course, it's always been mostly volunteers. They still allow training on the hill on the weekend. They still provide space for offices and kids locker room. Oddly, Siblet made more after the spin off than before and still got a free lift tickets and employee prices on food. Now, she's out of it, of course, being back in school. We can't do that because of Forest Service agreements. Hey, did you see we came in at #11 in the latest SKI mag poll, ahead of Aspen??? LOL! That's probably because we had snow last year and all the Coloradans had to come here or to Big Sky. Hopefully, the fame will go away.

GSS, guessing don't make it so. We used to have national events here, but even the lodging and food being added in didn't counteract the cost of course prep, additional personnel, etc.

It's a revelation that any resort makes money on racing. The two resorts I had a racer at were fond of saying how much they lost.

My husband has this thing about not turning on the heat until....well he used to say Thanksgiving when we lived in New Jersey, but now at some point I'll get pissed and just turn it on and put up with the flack. Propane costs. Need to start building fires, but even more important, next weekend needs to be chainsaw weekend.

House is 59 inside, up from 57. We haven't turned the heat on yet, but when I watch TV, I put my hands in an electric handwarmer left over from when I broke my wrists.

Baffin? As in Island? My husband had a dog sledding trip there many years ago. They changed Durango back to Purgatory? New owners or something?

It'll be what it'll be. My own theory is that good years alternate. On the other hand, last year apparently was a "good year" here in terms of totals. IMO the snow arrived too late, even if it did arrive. It meant we had weeks of insufficient coverage off groomed. If all the snow suddenly shows up in the second half of the season, even if the total was okay, does it make it a good season? I don't think so.

Told you...once again the Times eats their words.

This is all fascinating to me as I sort of knew both those guys when they used to ski at Camelback. Surprised to hear that Dick Ford was a silent anything.... -
not enough to make it part of my signature.

There's no such thing as "good" GoPro footage. it makes everything look flatter than it is you look slower or faster than reality depending on the terrain and how you edit things you look like you are just going in a straight line and your skis are wiggling Seriously, I don't know why anyone looks at that stuff. The angle is usually way too wide and you lose the entire "feel" of things. Why bother other than to justify the fact you bought the darn thing?

Hmm, at least for Lackawanna, it looks like they are not disclosing liens. EXPLANATION FOR REAL ESTATE SALES Sales are conducted by open bidding and you will be bidding against the bank. The bank has a predetermined amount that they will bid to. This is called the “upset price”. Only the bank, on day of sale, knows what this amount will be. It may be more or less than the judgment amount. A deposit of 10% of the bid price is to be paid in cash, cashier's check or certified check immediately to the sheriff at the time of the bid. In the event that 10% is not paid immediately, the property will be sold again at the end of the current sale. Said deposit will be forfeited in the event the balance of the bid price is not paid by 2 o'clock on the afternoon of said date. Full compliance of the total amount is due by two o'clock on the afternoon of the said date. The debtors own the properties until they are sold on the day of the sale. The Sheriff does not have physical access to the properties listed for sale. Properties are sold “AS IS” and the Sheriff is not responsible for a clear title. The Sheriff’s office does not search records for debts or liens prior to the sale. Professional assistance in searching properties may be obtained through attorneys or title searchers to determine possible liens for which the buyer may be responsible. Cost sheets containing an itemized list of the Sheriff’s fees, taxes and the amount of the debt owed to the executing creditor are available at the office approximately one week prior to the sale. A schedule of distribution of the proceeds from the sale will be prepared within thirty days. Money collected by the Sheriff is paid in priority order to creditors unless objections to the schedule are timely filed. If you have additional questions concerning the purchase of property at Sheriff’s sale or the filing of any legal pleadings, please contact your attorney.
