  2. Avalanches force lift closures at Bridger Bowl WHITNEY BERMES, Chronicle StaffWriter _ Posted: Tuesday, March 27, 2012 2:44 pm A series of natural and manmade avalanches prompted Bridger Bowl officials to close all but two lifts Tuesday afternoon. A combination of overnight rain and 9 inches of wet snow prompted the lift closures, said Michael Gill, assistant director of marketing and sales for Bridger Bowl. ³It makes for a fairly dangerous situation,´ Gill said. ³It was just not safe to ski the upper mountain.´ Lift closures will continue Wednesday. The only lifts open will be Snow Flake, Quad and Bridger to midway. Lift tickets on Tuesday and Wednesday are $20. Gill said the size and severity of Tuesday's avalanches are unusual for March. ³This year is totally out of the ordinary,´ Gill said. ³It always gets warm this time of year, but not this warm and not with rain falling. It just creates a bad situation.´ Pictures on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150756672175639.456040.219783875638&type=3
  3. Spring conditions, changing over now from the glue to corn. Can get down the hill for a change.
  4. Spring glue by 11.
  5. Warm sunny day, darn it, but the corduroy was nice in the AM.
  6. Ride Delaware is at 95 so far this season.
  7. Oh, the snow issue. Just saw a horrid picture of Killington as well.
  8. I was so busy dealing with issues with my new skis today, I had no thoughts for pictures. But, here's the daily video: http://youtu.be/BrZqjrgq0rQ 63 - 128" base. However, rain is on the way.
  9. Wow...depressing. I like Elk, but this is no ad.
  10. Today. Had been dumping all last night, then all today. And we're supposed to get 7 to 11 inches on the mountain tonight.
  11. I wish I wasn't so exhausted when I showed up to ski today, I know I should have been enjoying things more, it was my kind of weather. But, haven't slept well the last two days and was worn out when I got there. Howling winds, limited visibility, wind whales, and tons of fresh light powder. And I had to leave. And coming up: Winter Weather Advisory Late Afternoon: Snow and areas of blowing snow. High near 29. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 23 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. 12. Haven't been taking as many pictures the last two weeks, strictly groomers until yesterday when we got some more snow. THANK GOD.
  13. Just ordered Nordica Hell and Backs. Hopefully I'll get to use them this season. Didn't get to demo them, which "goes against my religion", but several people who like the skis I've liked got them and love them. I wanted K2's, but just couldn't find a ski with the right specs. As it was, our season has been so dismal, my Outlaws were fine for just about everything but the hardpack and chickenhead days.
  14. Well, you won't catch my lazy ass doing it, but several of my friends skin up and ski down. Clearly that should count as well as a lift ride.
  15. We're supposed to be open 117 this year, but I avoid Christmas and much of Presidents' week, so hard to get 100 in. I'm expecting (barring any accidents) to hit over 75, maybe even 80? But, when is a "day", a DAY? Some days I ski over 30k, and then there have been a few that were under 10k.
  16. 100 days? Never, personally. Got 63 in so far this year.

  18. Not sure why you double posted my pictures, but neither of those guys was Glenn. They are just people standing at the summit.
  19. Just any old picture from today. Was too busy to think about it. Spent the AM (socked-in conditions) skiing with Glenn and Lindsey, the PM skiing with friends from out of town. Glenn missed the soft stuff by a day.
  20. Found on someone's blog: I don't know this person (as far as I know), but it's clearly a local thing. Then (I do know this guy), this blog shows the author in his butt flap. http://northernrockiesview.com/
  21. I think THIS looks funny.
  22. The extra pants keep my hands and toes warm as well. The case of handwarmers expired largely unused once I started that. I only wear the butt flap if it's dumping or riming. I wear the extra (waterproof shell) pants if it's single digits or snowing. What difference does it make if I wear them or not anyway? I know what works for me. You know what works for you. If the "look" here locally is butt flaps, then so what?
  23. East Rim Face:
  24. So, there's like 500 people here who all need "better pants".
  25. TERRIFIC day, here's the video. Zak (red jacket) is Siblet's partner for race coaching.
