It varies considerably both in pitch and tree tightness depending on where you are. That particular section is fairly flat. Over just a few feet is a gully which is pretty tight. I have Google earth projections here.

And again in Evan's (yes, another fanny flap...)
-
If you're over 50 and ski here, you wear a fanny flap on frigid snowy days. He's short, so it looks extra long.

Today in Evan's Heaven: And in Stumptown:

Wrong, it is this season. Red Lodge got dumped on big time right as the season started. By the way, this is HERE, today:

http://vimeo.com/33507085 I posted the link because when I tried to embed it, it kept telling me the video didn't exist. And it does. Edit...now that I post the link, it gets embedded. Bug report here....

up higher two days back

That's the edge of a bridge and it appeared to be wood, but I don't know for sure.
-
Lower mountain today... The back side and upper mountain have plenty of snow, but temps have been so marginal that altitude has become a huge factor.

Big Sky is going after Colorado business: http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/travel/big-sky-resort-offers-free-skiing-to-epic-pass-holders-due-to-poor-snow-conditions-in-colorado/2012/01/04/gIQArQ4QaP_story.html Ballsy move. I guess they plan to make up the cost to them by filling their hotels and restaurants.

I liked Park City when my daughter and I went years ago.
-
I wonder if they are adjusting for water content or reporting period? It sure is confusing.

Things are rough here as well, but I am telling myself it's "conditioning skiing" anyway. They opened up Marmot and Black Bear, but I don't know WHY!!! They are full of bushes and trees sticking through. I think the people skiing them must think there are only the tops of trees and not also large rocks and logs under the snow. They are NUTS. I'm still downloading at the end of the day. I took the front side return cat track one day and it was full of icy moguls and narrow. No thanks, gave up that stuff when I left the Ice Coast. Maybe the 1-3 inches will actually show up Tuesday night. That would be a thrill. I'm glad I don't work for the resort answering phones from panicked tourists wanting to cancel their reservations.
-
Don't know if you're talking 01-02 or 02-03, but I skied about the same amount each of those years, sort of amazing how identical they were. I see I started MUCH earlier in 02-03, though. Otherwise, same number of days and within 2000 vertical feet of each other...

We aren't opening here at Whitefish. I don't know where this La Nina stuff is hiding, but there is only 25 inches at the summit so far. Ridiculous!!! Some of the resorts south of us are open, but not here - they don't even have a "re-scheduled" date yet, because there is NOTHING in the forecast. My skis are tuned and ready and my locker and pass are set up, but....we are just waiting. It's probably something to do with the lack of a bonfire to Ullr at the Pray for Snow party this year....

PC, just saw your sig.... Now I need to find out what brought that on!
-
Then again, PC, maybe you should try and win this trip to Montana; http://www.epicski.com/t/107143/tell-your-out-of-state-friends-to-enter-this-contest

We sort of liked The Canyons when we went, BUT most of it was closed because it was one of their first seasons and apparently they had "closed for the season" and then the snow started dumping, so they opened back up, but they couldn't get enough lifties to run all the chairs. But, we found some great cruising runs in the area that was open.

Hmm, interesting list. I've been to Telluride, Steamboat, Vail, Beaver Creek, A-Basin, Copper (a lot), Aspen, Snowmass, Winter Park, Mary Jane, Breckenridge, Deer Valley, The Canyons, Park City, Alta, Snowbird, Lake Louise, Sunshine, Big Sky, Bridger Bowl, Red Lodge, Montana Snowbowl, Big Mountain, and Blacktail...and that's just in the Rockies.
