As far as steaks go, just because they think they're fancy doesn't mean they can get away with charging $40. I recently reamed a local place for a piece of pricey steak that tasted EXACTLY like what I'd cook in my own oven. Clearly wasn't "prime" beef, etc. I have had better at Ponderosa. And by the way, I've skied Aspen several times (week long visits). It's nice enough but still not worth close to $100 a day. Unless you're looking to bag rich matrons in fox ski jackets, in which case, there's plenty to choose from. I loved the trips I took there and stayed decidedly "upscale" each time, but I don't think it even compares to many other places in CO I've been such as Telluride, Copper, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Arapahoe...I've skied them and many more out there over the years. Overall, I preferred Snowmass to Aspen, larger for one thing. Glad you're having fun, but $100? sheesh. A fool and his money.... I am wondering why you paid $5 more than their website says the advance price is for a 5 day ticket...oh, maybe you included the $5 refundable deposit. I see Jackson is also $435 for five days at this time of year. Lots more to ski there as well. Looks like next season you should get the pay as you go option... I assume that is what Jeff did.

Well, five days here without a pass would be $250 if you bought at Costco and $290 if you bought at the resort ticket window. Or $255 if you bought a frequent skier pass and then the days.
-
Yeah, a good deal too much. That's practically my season pass.

FWIW, I hit 50 days today. Haven't quite cracked a million feet yet, but that will be done tomorrow.

Here's a LONG video from the first group of guys. They hit Whitefish and Revelstoke on this trip. I make a very brief appearance, supposedly they have no video of me skiing because they were mostly trying to keep up....

We've had two deaths this year here in tree wells. In the areas I was in today with Pete from Epic, you need a friend along. Action shot from today:

Nice day in Stumptown:

For Doug and Kyle: Today, looking towards Canada. Spent the PM taking EpicSki guy around some more. Took him in Stumptown for some nice fresh powder. Canada wouldn't be the nearer peaks, but the more distant peaks.

Just looking at my Pic of the Day album on Facebook, I'd say 30% of the time we can see Canada. The rest of the time we count the chairs we can see.... Those stats may change as spring comes.

Yes. As the crow flies, it's less than 45 miles to the border.

And, a SkiDiva....Too bad we didn't connect. That Sunday was the best day ever! http://www.theskidiva.com/forums/showthread.php?p=160427&highlight=whitefish#post160427

Yes, let's hear why...

Well, they probably are, but the whole SPIRIT of the thing is that they were "harvested" en route.
-
They're too busy skiing, I bet.

I agree with the race program comments. Siblet runs rings around me and she started racing sort of late, 12 years old. One of the fellow race coaches here told the kids she (Siblet) is the best skier of all the coaches. She owes her smooth, powerful, style to race instruction.

Is Alpine still around? Other than that, I'd vote for Shawnee.

Random stoke video from here. I had things to do today, but will be there tomorrow. And it's still snowing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pFfG5rMGIM&

But, you'll never get to them, because you keep going back to the same place. Fortunately, its beauty is little known. Mon-Fri most of the chairs are empty. We regularly have days where there are only 200-600 skiers spread over 3000 acres. Personally, I don't need gapers like Doug to provide variety in our clientele. We've already got the Texans.

Yeah, the snow here sucks.

glad to hear this

I was too far ahead of them.... Actually, they didn't take many pics when they skied with us. They were by themselves (without me) all of Wednesday, which was the blue sky day. And I only skied the middle of Thursday with them and just a smidge of Friday with them.

Although we're a "destination" ski area, the bulk of tickets are sold to Montanans. The locals who skin up are for the most part season ticket holders who like a lot of exercise. I knew about Bridger, don't understand the issue there, but don't understand the ownership there either. The various parties here (National Forest, WMR and the uphill people) outlined the issues on either side of the problem and made it a goal to reconcile the issues so that everyone is happy. Now the biggest problems are with the tourons who are not aware of changes to the policy, which HAD been a free-for-all. You'd come around a blind curve and there would be these idiots all in a bunch on a narrow trail across a cliff face. F-in ridiculous. Now they have routes that make sense and signs designating the routes. Since downhill skiers can see the signs (I think "Caution" or "slow" is on the flip side towards downhill skiers and "Uphill Route" is on the side facing the skinners), it isn't really an issue. You've been told to watch out and slow down for that type of traffic. Most of the uphill traffic here is early AM or late PM, anyway. There used to be idiots walking straight up Ptarmigan Bowl in midday. That's done with. Some of the uphill people had gotten into it with the guys trying to groom. That, I think, is over. I think there might be approved hiking hours as well, so that the groomers still working say, at midnight, aren't going to have problems grooming the uphill routes because of people still climbing when it's totally dark.
