Here's a video for those of you on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/photo_search.php?o...oid=30030734308 Not mine. And I added more pictures to link I posted earlier.

They are currently running a great special here: Stay & Play Packages 877.754.3474 It's easy to see yourself in Whitefish this winter when you've got 40/40 40/40: 40% off lodging and $40 lift tickets Sunday through Thursday until the end of the season

When I lived in NJ, we flew out of Newark and never had more than one change of flight. Delta changes in SLC and NWair changes in Minneapolis. I hope to be back in "ski with" form next season, but I don't see me being much fun in the upcoming weeks. I was looking longingly today at Upper Hollywood under the lift, but I know I don't have the strength yet for that. We had Pocono-like conditions today on the front side, as I said to someone, "well, you can get an edge in, that's all you ask for back East." Backside was wonderful as always.

As already suggested, leave your East Coast skis home. Then, demo each day and try different skis until you fall in love. Powder does take some work at first. One important thing, don't put all your weight on one ski as you turn, it'll sink. Try to keep your weight roughly even and even think of your skis (plural) as a joined board, not as independent entities. In spite of the fact that you'll feel nervous on the powder, you do need to keep up your speed and you should go a bit steeper than you might think as well. Those thoughts never did me a BIT of good however, prior to moving here and getting the right skis on. I used to visit my brother in Colorado a lot and he'd always tell me these things, but since I had skis designed to hold on boiler plate back East, they were pretty horrendous out West. That being said, resorts do tend to make sure the greens are groomed out for visitors. Start out on those and increase as needed. Speed IS your friend, and will be needed on the flatter slopes especially. I bought new skis within weeks after moving here. My Vipers just couldn't handle it...they'd call runs "groomed" from being groomed the night before, but if it's dumping all day, "groomed" becomes meaningless with the wrong skis. I can't emphasize enough that you need the right skis if you are getting dumped on, no matter what the hassle in renting. That is why I say, leave the skis home. That way you'll have to rent no matter if you get powder or not. Don't accept anything less than 90mm under foot.

...well, I haven't gotten a friend request yet, so he must be having problems.

You must be making a hell of a salary at that tombstone place.... You're right, $360 isn't bad. For six days here, spread any way you like, it would come to $336, not much of a difference. But I bet the food and hotels are cheaper. The daughter is 21. And, I am afraid, is very unforgiving of certain personality types. Good luck finding me on Facebook.

To all, a full day ticket here is a mere $61. No waiting in line midweek. Sure, no one's heard of it, but with 3000 acres of mostly treed skiing and some areas you can kill yourself as quickly as you like, why pay more?

I think you should extend your trip. Spend tomorrow looking for a job and an apartment.

It's just a little blood, not bad. I've had worse hitting a tree.

So basically, you'll be able to STAY higher at Targhee. It's raining here and my neighbor's blocking my road (perpendicular and wedged into snow banks), so I guess I'll have to wait and ski tomorrow.
-
If Targhee's higher, then I'd go there, the snow might be lighter.

I don't know. I watched some people with wide rockered skis try and get back to the chair via the groomers (can't be done without hitting the groomers) and they were all over the place. I think maybe some Mantras you'd like. Siblet LOVES her Auras. But, I think the heavy stuff is tough if you sink to a level you can't counteract with speed or gravity.

How wide are those PE's?

? What if you were sick? I'm not telling you to pretend you're sick, but if you haven't missed much school and your grades are good, then 4 days is nothing. Just have your parents write a letter that they are taking you out. We certainly did this with two different schools systems for Siblet and I know my parents did it for me for THREE WEEKS one October when I was a junior in high school.

Depends on the ski. For most everything, since it's the Rockies and ice is rarely an issue, I have 1 and 1. For my "spring" skis, I have 1 and 2 and a wet structure on the base. The sharper your edge (2 or 3), the more it will need sharpening, that's why I leave it at 1 since I don't have ice to contend with.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -25. Wind chill values as low as -49. Northwest wind between 17 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Monday: Partly sunny and cold, with a high near -12. Wind chill values as low as -50. Northwest wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -28. Wind chill values as low as -44. North northwest wind between 7 and 10 mph. And our power was out for 4 hours today. Thank goodness we have radiant floor heat and have been keeping a fire going in the fireplace.

More bitter cold a'comin.... Tonight: Patchy blowing snow and a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -20. Wind chill values as low as -49. Windy, with a north northeast wind between 29 and 31 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Sunday: A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy and cold, with a high near -16. Wind chill values as low as -49. Blustery, with a northeast wind between 17 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Sunday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around -22. Wind chill values as low as -50. Northeast wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Monday: Partly sunny and cold, with a high near -15. Wind chill values as low as -50. Northeast wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. HMMM. I planned to ski starting Monday. I wonder if the mountain will still be closed????

Nine degrees here and dropping.... Meanwhile, according to the NOAA, on the mountain: This Afternoon: Areas of blowing snow and a chance of snow. Cloudy and cold, with a steady temperature around -12. Wind chill values as low as -41. Blustery, with a north northeast wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. Then the snow report: 9:30 Update: We will be closed for operations today. We have done everything we can to open today and unfortunately it will not happen. 50 mph gusts and 40 below windchills have ripped the summit. Efforts in the village have also been hampered by heavy snow and wind. Check in the morning for updates on Sundays terrain. The weather outside is frightful. We ask that you be careful if you are in the village today. High winds have been knocking trees down and blowing snow has cut visibility way down.

Wow, yeah, I see you have 13 days and 147,000 feet. If you died tomorrow, I am sure I can beat THAT. That would be assuming I wasn't allowed to start until February and you died 12/12. I am sure I won't CATCH you this year, assuming both of us survive the season.... I'm allowed to start off easy in a few days.
-
Well, I always start out slow and build up. I think it's skiing that gets you ready to ski. You just don't want me on the vert list.....
-
I would say most of these "top" resorts in gaper mags are the places that are more "Disney World" than real town. There are few of us left. And I give thanks that we just about never make a top ten list.

Well, they couldn't open here. We used to open on Thanksgiving, but with new ownership, they pushed the date back over a week last year and the expected opening day this year was Dec. 6. That did NOT happen. They opened this past Tuesday with TWO trails, one green, one blue. However we have started to get snow. Of course, I haven't been cleared to ski yet. I go to the Physical Therapist (actually I go to the facility 3 to 4 times a week, but I don't always have a session with the PT) today and I've asked that he do tests to clear me for skiing. I am the ONLY one so far who thinks I might be able to do it. The surgeon said February, my husband says take the season off, and the OTHER PT (the guy's partner) says I'm not "going to get out of (there) that easy". I know I may find that they are all correct, but I'd like to give it a shot. But if my PT gives me any kind of clearance, my goal is Monday.
