I am finally attempting to ski the trees again. Here is the route I took today with friends: Here is the old lady in Windowpane:

Snow looks great, you'll have to tell us all about it.

Didn't used to be, but get there early and wait for a window of emptiness in front of you. There's a trail here I like ....hmmm, maybe two.... to bomb when it's midweek and no boarders are leaping out of the trees into my path. I got my first taste of nice fast cruising on Nile Mile and it's still good for a run or so even when there's freshies in the woods.
-
I nominate each of you to take a bomber cruise down Nile Mile for me.

I know you're joking, but that's about 1/3 of the resort. More: Panorama of Hellroaring Basin Panorama of the Front Side from the Home Again trail

Kind of incredible that Camelback is staying open.....

It's about time they tried to extend their season. You notice that it's a 50 year record for number of days, but only a 20 year record getting into April. Gee, was that round about the time that Sam Newman took over? It took new management to get back to having longer seasons, I guess.

Movie from riding the chair today. Don't know what's with the pink, it happens sometimes and not others.... Started uploading at 7:45 PM MT tonight, it was still uploading when I went to dinner...... Movie From Chair

It's what is called an inversion when the cold air (and the accompanying clouds/fog) slides down into the valley and the warmer air is at higher elevations. Usually it'll be totally clear on the mountain on those days, but occasionally it's more like a "parfait" where you descend into clouds, out of them, then back into them again. It's nice because the people from out of town who stay in town think it's a miserable day up on the mountain and they decide not to ski, while we're up there soaking up the rays.

It depends on the amount of flats you are on. I don't know enough about snowboarding, but you know those cat tracks you all hate? Wax helps. Now, given the PA winter conditions, red wax is probably as good as "universal" most of the time.
-
I just about never hike. Let me know the year, month, picture/url and I'll tell you more.

Pictures of Big Mountain in Whitefish, Montana. I've added some more pictures to this year's tab, the last three dates. You want empty slopes? Here they are.

I use Dr. D's stuff, usually the red or the green hydro, occasionally the "universal", but only if the weather is just plain all over the place. Only time I ever wished for another wax was Sunday, temps were REALLY REALLY low (not as bad as today, but hovering around zero by 1 PM) and on my first run I went into the shade on a flat section. Major mistake. Had to shuffle my way out of it. All was fine an hour later, but Swix CH4 is better once you get into the sib-zero range. I just hate using it, it feels like it'll never come off, won't even scrape unless you reheat it. I thought I'd trashed my skis at the beginning of this season, the stuff is like painting on enamel or something. (This is the Swix CH4). But, it glides where no one has glided before, to paraphrase an old TV show.

3/9/09...Shout out to ski patroller Rob Cook!
sibhusky replied to AtomicSkier's topic in Blue Mountain
The interesting thing about this is that at Camelback it was the "rangers" ("yellow jackets") who used to do the ticketing NOT Ski Patrol. To me, mixing a job that should be a positive thing (Ski Patrol) with the state trooper thing ("ranger") is all wrong. Also, it sounds like Blue is now worse than CB for ticket yanking? Or are there just more of you on this board who ski at Blue? All this happens because you ski at crowded areas. Maybe if they start limiting ticket sales (first come, first serve) they can afford to provide a more free and easy environment. Drive up to Elk. I used to really love bombing their cruisers. -
Brings back memories. Reinforces the joy of moving to a better mountain.

Just wax with warm weather wax (red or yellow) and LEAVE IT ON. Make sure there is wax left on the metal edges, sides and base, to help ward off rust. Store in a DRY location (not the garage) and prop up on something to prevent the bottom edge coming in contact with cement (which can release moisture from the ground below) or, of course, any flooding.
-
No. Basically, you want to open up the pores with heat and use the clean wax to grab the dirt and pull it out. You scrape when it's warm so that the pores are still open.

Well, he's got this one year old daughter and a bad ankle. Time to rest and pay attention to her and his health.
