  1. Kind of, but my life has essentially happened and it's just a question of whether I die of old age or skiing.
  2. What's an NF?
  3. Times three. I feel like I lost a friend. Skimom, if you're out there, let us know!
  4. Thank god Siblet isn't racing anymore. Now I just have to worry about the fact that she wears a POC helmet (see discussion on the Ski Racing forum and Epicski) and has decided her new interest is off piste in the powder and trees.
  5. I noticed he's not racing USSA this year?
  6. Why is Hosp "our girl", when Vonn, an American married to a guy from NY, not?
  7. If you're driving from Jackson to Schweitzer, you might want to swing by here. A bit more acreage than Schweitzer, but the same weather systems.
  8. Heck, yeah! I postponed the work until I got home. Here's the snow report for today, all about YESTERDAY: Snow Report updated by Caeli: (8 am update: 2 more inches have fallen since 5:30 am--total is 4 inches...) Unbelievable. Hands down, yesterday was the best day of skiing this year. The good news is: there are sure to be more world class days. Last night we received 2 inches of fresh powder at the summit, bringing our snow total to 245 inches. Brace yourself--we are only halfway through the season. It remained cold all night and there wasn't any major wind, so I'm looking forward to what today will bring. The forecast calls for 2-4 inches of snow accumulation today. Yesterday morning began with deep powder, bottomless at times, partly sunny skies, and people hooting and hollering all over the mountain because the skiing and boarding was AMAZING. The front side opened first, so the first full chairload of skiers migrated to Big Face where soft pillows of snow beckoned from the chair. At least 20 skiers descended at once, laying down rhythmic lines and sending up billows of powder. Next it was North Bowl Face and Haskills. Skiers and boarders were launching off the rocks into soft snow piles (don't try this unless you know what you're doing and you have great health insurance...) The constant onslaught of face shots made it hard to see, but who needed to see? Bad skiing was forgiven. Good skiing was immortalized (especially when retold at the 'stube last night). The sound of dynamite subsided and then Hellroaring opened. Like traveling wildebeests, the entire mountain migrated to the West, driven by the desire for a fresh line. Watching this mass movement from Chair 1 was like being on safari in Africa. Packs skated down the cat track, dropping into Sling Shot, Picture Chutes, and Gray's Golf Course. The cliffs were almost invisible under the snow. Even the bottom of the Glory Hole and Hellfire were transformed into a gentle roller coasters--skiers and boarders seemed to converge seamlessly. Rare, indeed. The East Rim opened just before Hellroaring, and the pack beelined to the east, where First Creek and East Rim brought some of the best snow and shimmering rime covered trees. The Backside was in deep. I heard stories of thigh deep powder in the trees, floaty turns, and untracked lines all day. It was good, really good.
  9. Pictures of my house today
  10. Adding some more pics to the thing right now in case you have any display issues. Upload may take about 10 minutes, starting from 7:45 PM MT.
  11. Since Doug can't post photos from his Jackson Hole trip, I thought I'd provide some Big Mountain pictures
  12. Seems to me it's so hard to even find a place that rents tele equipment that it would be worth giving up a day to try it all out conveniently located. Too bad they're not offering lessons, too.

Can I have a link to where you saw this. I'm googling around and not finding any info other than the cousin (NOT BODE) shot the cop. As near as I can tell, Bode wasn't there and the only part he played to do with the cop was contesting a ticket the cop gave him once. Here's the most thorough write up I found: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...mp;pagewanted=1

Actually, I thought it was a pretty funny remark.
  15. I think some resorts use a summit that is not lift-serviced to determine their "vertical". I am pretty sure that they used to do that here, count the summit with the cell phone tower, which you have to hike up to. I notice in recent years we lost three hundred feet....

What ARE you talking about? I made no comment whatsoever about Bode himself, only that the US ski team wants four event skiers like Bode. I also cannot imagine why my daughter should tell her boss (??? what boss?) to fuck off. And she is "grown up". WHAT ARE YOU ON? Ski, I thought he was talking about Siblet, he was quoting ME, not you. Of course, maybe since the person's name started with "s" he thought he was responding to one of your quotes, which would make more sense to me since I never thought he had issues with me.

It's different out here. Sure colleges concentrate on tech races, but in the West, where we can hold speed events, the kids MUST run a speed event to qualify for JO's. If you don't run a speed event all season, you are automatically NOT considered for JO's as the goal is to build more Bodes, i.e., four event skiers.
  18. What's it like? Hell on earth. Get there for first chair, leave at 10 AM. Ski the Cleo lift as needed.
  19. Definitely worth it, no more watering eyes when you go fast or it's cold out. Also protects your eyes from gapers doing the Pocono Tuck.
  20. Well, La Nina is being good to us, finally. Even though they were barely able to open the resort "on time" on Dec. 8 (past years the goal was turkey day), we've had the snowiest December in the last 10 years so far. Siblet has been doing the off piste waist deep stuff and I hope there will still be some for me when I'm ready. It's the light fluffy Utah kind of snow. Too bad there are so many people enjoying it. I get to ski tomorrow, but then it's off to Washington State School of Veterinary Medicine for one of my pooches. He's in bad shape and it's a seven hour drive each way, but we've got to see if we can save him, so once again no skiing.
  21. As a bystander here, is what you are saying that Sno closed as well and only CB got taken to task for that?
  22. Best wishes on her racing career, ski! Seems fitting that as Siblet is ending, Ty is starting. We need a young racer to watch.

I guess it depends on how you feel about looking dirty all the time. Or if you expect to wear them more than twice.
  24. That sounds low to me. Just read an article on our mountain here and they were saying 260,00 last season. Now here, if we get 7000 people in a day, we're bitching about the 10 minute lines and I remember someone at CB saying 10,000 to 12,000 on a weekend day was common. If we forget Xmas is "all weekend", and multiply 10,000 times 28 days, you get 280,000. So, you've just come close to that 300,000 leaving out all the midweek skiing, all the President's Day, all the Christmas, all the MLK. If we throw those in, assuming 200 midweek per day or 1000 for M-F, we add 14,000, plus 50,000 for Xmas, plus another 20,000 for the holiday weekends. That's 364,000 and that's really conservative. I bet there's a ski industry database somewhere that has this info? Edit: Just found this quote, dated 2005: "Camelback recorded 350,000 visits last year while Camelbeach logged 300,000." And another one: "Camelback’s idyllic location, along with a keen attention to detail, is a main reason why the resort attracts on average 350,000 skier visits each year." Last was in this article: http://www.snoweastmagazine.com/articles/G...a/Camelback.pdf
