  1. Highly unlikely. 1) I am still recovering from my accident. I do not have full use of my left hand and wrist and I still have pain. 2) The mountain hasn't even opened yet and so far there is NO SNOW. My goal is 1 million and I think that is iffy. I know I will be slowing down a bit due to fear, for instance. I consider it a "healing" year. Tonight's web cam:
  2. Two: Avocet watch and the Brunton thing you wear around your neck. Both about the same price. You can change your own battery on the Brunton. It is supposedly "more accurate" than the Avocet, but frankly, I'd calibrate it the first few days to figure out how much it is usually off. I think it's called the Summit or something like that. They make a lot of altimeters. I've had THREE Avocets. One was great, one was kind of great the first two years, the third was miserable from day one. I am currently using the Brunton Summit.
  3. Be sure to look at the cost of lift tickets and lodging and not just at airfares when determining cost. It might cost more for the airfare, but if the lift tickets are $84 a day, you can eat up the difference in air fare pretty quickly. There is no way I would pick Europe over Colorado or Utah, because we all know the SKIING is better in the US, although the ambiance is usually better in Europe. Slopeside lodging here: http://www.bigmtn.com/index.php?a=lodging/...arch&loc=ME and here: http://www.bigmtn.com/index.php?a=lodging/...arch&loc=TH and some here: http://www.whitefishvacation.com/pub/index.php?id=2
  4. Hey, Chris Becker, how do you ski at Killington and only accumulate 18 vertical feet? Were you just climbing to the lift and skiing back to the edge of the snow 9 times? Two feet per run? Vertical feet, for the uninitiated, is the amount of feet from the top of the lift (or the place you then hiked up to) to the bottom of the lift (or your car if you go straight home after one run). Doesn't matter the LENGTH of the run, all that matters is the DROP. Contact your resort for lift stats or wear an altimeter.
  5. Vail is pushing back its opening day. Better keep checking their site. Colorado, like us, is starving for some snow and they have bigger rocks than we have here.
  6. I'd think anyone with WHITE pants would want to GIVE them away! They'll be anything but white within a week.

    Brad

Anyone know if Brad is still at the Loft in Tannersville?
  8. Down in Glory Hole here, they sometimes run the groomers between the trees and it is great fun picking your way through a different route each time.
  9. Probably not. We don't open until 12/8. That's a change in policy from prior years, but since they are replacing two chairs and realigning another, I can see why they are snipping off a few non-profitable weeks from things to allow themselves more time. As it is, we haven't had the normal amount of snow yet that we've had in past years by this point. Just a dusting last night, whereas in previous years we've had a foot in October. They haven't even started making snow yet, it's been so warm. However, the forecast is now improving noticeably and I think they'll start this week.
  10. Well, Siblet now does all her friends skis because the fact that the team traveled together all of the time and sometimes they had a "regional tuning tech" at the races with them, she learned a lot. I actually don't like her to do mine, but she sneaks it in occasionally.
  11. Could you be a bit more specific? Does this refer to the seasonal tuneup or Mark somehow?
  12. Mark is terrific, I really miss having him around for my skis...on the other hand, $125 is a lot of money if what you mostly get done is a wax and an edge touch up each week. You don't want to stone grind constantly or you won't have any skis left, plus you have to restart the wax impregnation again and you want your bases to be loaded up deep down with wax. I think if you get them waxed each night and not just once a week, you might break even compared to doing it yourself. If you need edge work done regularly, you will come out ahead as diamond stones are pricey. This is a SEASONAL tune up. That means, they'll keep tuning your gear for you all season long. Basically, you could treat them like a locker as well. Drop off your skis Sunday night, pick them up the next Saturday or whatever.
  13. It certainly makes them sound like they have more problems than they know how to handle. I wonder how much catering to their "main clientele" has intensified the critical mass of that clientele? That is, the fact that they cater to boarders and park rats, attracts more of those and drives the skiers away.
  14. Being old and blind it took me a minute to see the edit of the top name. What's MLSC?

    THREE DAYS!

Versus is an internet subscription, not a channel?
  16. We've had damp snow three days this week. Nothing sticking yet, just dingy out. La Nina is good for us historically. Go here for La Nina predictions: http://webpages.charter.net/tcrocker818/MEI_corr.htm
  17. Yeah, Arc'teryx, maybe Spyder, Columbia. None of the brands you're looking at would I take off a rack.
  18. Well, if they only get one ticket a week, say for the MWF 4-9 shift, they could still use it for that missing Saturday.
  19. http://www.bigmtn.com/?a=events/park_pipe Info http://www.stumptownphoto.com/gallery_skii...id=13&num=1 This will take you to a photo store which has lots of Action fotos showing skiing and boarding, most of which will have been taken at Big Mountain. http://www.snowboard-mag.com/node/26093 about what they are doing for the park and pipe crowd this year....not that anything NEEDS to be done, we've got the mountain already!
  20. Seems like they could give it to themselves if they weren't scheduled to work? Sounds fine if you think about it that way.
  21. Actually, the spelling kind of gives away this lady's educational achievements, and therefore sort of shows you the demographic that those stupid resorts appeal to. NEVER, at ANY point in my life did the idea of me physically entering one of those Pocono honeymoon offerings ever cross my mind. If you can't make a place look anything but tacky in a print ad, then imagine how awful the reality would be! It always kind of scares me that those places get enough business to stay open! YECCCH!!

    Bode update

Maybe the "competition" is not always the official event. Maybe the competition is press and accolades by their peers without regard to particular venues. Being "famous" as opposed to be being the winner.

    Bode update

Bode is supposedly, now that he's all on his own, giving up drinking: http://www.bostonherald.com/track/inside_t...ticleid=1033655
  24. Most pictures of ski runs look flat, even looking at a trail from the chair it looks flat. UNTIL YOU ARE ON IT.
  25. IMHO, whatever feels the best on your head. I prefer FULL helmets, especially after my accident, and they seem to be hard to find. EVERY other helmet in the store was what I think of as a 3/4 helmet. So, I bought the ONE full helmet they had, a Giro Streif, and fortunately it was the perfect size. Interestingly, the right size for this helmet was quite a bit smaller than my last helmet. Does that mean I lost brains???? I think it shows that once you are in a particular brand you should assume that the size only applies for that brand, just like a black at Camelback is not the same as a black out west.
