I agree with skimom that they should monitor and warn. If a pacesetter continually has a slow run, then speeds up really noticeably subsequently every single day, then the resort should be advised that the course needs to be repaced at regular intervals and a new race set up after the repacing. If the resort decides to ignore the warning, then NASTAR should either remove their NASTAR designation or fix things forcibly. I agree that repacing after everyone has run, been told they have a given HC and medal, etc., is NOT the way to do things. On the other hand, when I finally beat skimom, I want to do it fair and square. (Unfortunately, my mountain has cut back NASTAR so much that it's just about never open when I am there. Doesn't look like I will even get a state ranking this year.)

The link seemed to be to a rational discussion. It did not mention a particular resort until YOU told them. It sounds like if they didn't set up a "new race" then it's against the original pace time.

Skimom either just became another Bode Miller or there's something wrong with the timing at CB. It says she did the course today in 14 seconds!

Skimom and I would prefer to look at beefcake.

Actually if it's just for five minutes, ANY lock is better than no lock. You want them to target someone else's skis. I remember using a chain and padlock to secure my skis some 25 years ago. But, my friend didn't bring a lock. So, we attempted to secure both skis with the same chain and padlock. She had the hottest skis on the market at the time, first day using them. They were cut out of the chain and gone by the time we got out of the bar. So, rule number two is, don't get the hottest skis and if you have them get them scratched up pretty quick. And rule number three is, don't chain up your friend's skis, as when theirs get stolen and yours sit there, it is all your fault.

I'd go to Elk due to its relative inaccessibility. That being said, I don't know how well they handle crowds as I have never seen any there. CB at least keeps things moving. But, CB only closes ticket sales when cars are backed clear out to 80. It's a good weekend to STAY HOME or....COME HERE!

All I heard was it was a "lightweight race helmet". But remember, they were on the chair watching and not part of the event itself..

Now that I have an in-house waxer, I get it done more often. But, as mentioned, it's a bit crazy to worry about a bit of flaking when you have gouges from rocks. I just had base repair work done a couple of weeks ago, and they need it again. I heard all about it from Siblet last night when she was waxing my skis. But, there's more to life than groomers! Naturally, since I am close to unemployed, I am worrying about not being able to force Mr. Husky to buy me a new pair of skis at the end of this season like I did to get these skis. But, I am more concerned about the ski being "dead" than starving for a bit of wax.

Not damage, you just don't move. But, like ski999 said, after 4 days it's a moot point, that wax was gone. I can assure you that the wrong wax is always slower than no wax. And, unlike ski999 says, I don't think you need to constantly have wax on your skis. I outglide people all the time here on catwalks (and many of them are always talking about having waxed their skis the night before) and I am the great non-waxer. On the other hand, I get new skis after 100-150 days, which means way more often in terms of time than other people, so dried-out bases is less of an issue. I don't mean they never get waxed, but they certainly don't get waxed more often than every ten days out or so. It's not like I'm racing.

I have had problems with SOME fresh stuff and the right hot wax has fixed it, but usually it is at colder temps than that. Especially to go on all day, as opposed to just the first run, is surprising.
-
When you say "powder" was it from the sky or a gun? I find freshly laid down manmade stuff to have a tendency to grab your skis if yours are the first skis over it. Otherwise, the WRONG wax is worse than NO WAX. However, if you had skied on those skis after the first day, it shouldn't have been an issue.

Great race, skidude. Best of luck at finals!

I heard he had on a helmet, but it may have been a slalom helmet.

I was there the day it happened. Friends told me they were on the list and he was headed just straight down the Asp, didn't hold an edge on a turn and went into the trees on the right side of the hill and smacked into a boulder. Helmet didn't do a darn bit of good at the speed he was going. Now, remember these were NOT racers watching, so the actual truth may be that he was in fact training, but they said he was just showing off for the coach. This is why you sign these horrible waivers every year from USSA, FIS, the mountain, the team, etc. all talking about the possibility of dying.

The Corchnoy race is named in honor of one of the team members who died on the mountain a few years back. It varies as to whether it is for J1's and J2's or J3's, depending on what the local needs are for races. I wouldn't say it attracts the "best skiers in the East" as it is rare that folks come down from New England and that is where most of the best Eastern racers are. It does naturally attract from PA, NJ, and NY. But since Siblet once finished third there, I can assure you that the competition isn't THAT tough. It's just a notch above normal Pocono competition.

I can't see this listed on the USSA site as an scheduled event? I found it on the PARA site in the revised schedule, but not on USSA.
-
Yeah, you. They will have to buy more gates and that will be in next year's race fee.

I am guessing that the soot mixed in with the P-tex will not perform as well as clean P-tex. Soot isn't just dye. Why would you not have time to do the job right?

It used to be on the right side of 33 coming up from Allentown.

Gosh, they had that billboard about three years back and I remember mocking it on their board, particularly because that season we had a lot of mud. I can't believe they went back to that.
-
Well, winter is back. We only got about an inch at our house, but I think there's about 8 inches of fresh powder on the mountain. Now, if we could just get 8 inches more.....

I am pretty sure that, although that old ski area is east of CB somewhere, that the area to the east of upper Nile is state land. We've hiked there in the summer. I think the old ski area is quite a bit down the hill from Nile, possibly just above and to the west of that condo neighborhood.
