I really miss Doug's daily trip reports. I'm so behind that I didn't even know they opened Switchback. Anyone who's been up please, please, please post a current TR. BTW, see you all on Saturday morning.

I don't think I've ever seen teles in the park. You have to admit... it would be interesting.

It (Cascade) was closed the day I was there.

I just got my "Blue Powder" today and saw this.... Telemark Demo Day Jan 26th. 8:30am-3:30pm Join Luke Foley and Jen Reed from the EMS exploration team and ski patroller Ken Weber for a freeintroduction to telemark skiing . Kinda cool.

But you wouldn't really go to K-Mart to ski GE either. I think another poster nailed it when they said that most people going up to VT midweek are looking for long cruisers. Losing the end really shortens that trail, cuts out the woods, bridge, etc. Honestly the reason we chose Okemo over K-Mart is that particular lift closure. When we went last year we skied most of the trails on the mountain early but always ended up on GE for 3 or 4 runs per day. It's fun, long, uncrowded and well groomed. What more can an intermediate skier want?

Don't hate. I'm a proud gaper BTW. I know I'm not good and guess what... I don't care. I get out and do what I can and have a ball doing it so NAH!!!
-
Were you there during the week? I think I read it somewhere on here but K-Mart's new management only runs the lower part of Skyship on the weekends and holidays. That's why we're going to Okemo for my B-Day and not K-Mart.

I might be retarded but I thought that when you pizza you're kinda on an edge and not just flat out. You wouldn't really stop if you didn't catch at least some edge. I think I would have to just slide sideways to do that much damage. Ugh.

The F chair is notorious for "leg pinch" I've received many a bruise from that damn thing. It's that F-ing mound of snow right after the loading area. Ugh.

I kinda liked it. I kinda like Bode if you must know. I'm no expert when it comes to racing but if nothing more Bode (OK and this post) gets me interested in a sport that I normally wouldn't care to watch. And who doesn't love a car wreck? Hello Britney Spears?!! Oh, and he is looking pretty cute now that he's lost the majority of the beer belly he was sporting. That doesn't hurt.

OK, today was our first trip to Blue this season and it was a pretty good day. The husband and I pulled into the lower lot around 7:15, booted up and headed in. The ticket window was open early which I really, really love. It was freezing but I layered so it wasn't really a problem. They were also blowing which made the lift ride exciting to say the least but it's a necessary evil so I'm not hating. Anyway, we jumped on the 6 pack first and headed up for a few warm up runs. On the way up we noticed that Paradise and Razors were roped off for grooming although once they were open I had to wonder if that's what the groomers were really doing up there. LM was hard, hard, hard pack with a mix of sugar and fresh snow on the top. It was fast which made Bob really happy and not too crowded which did it for me. We went on to ski Main Street just in time to see the race crew closing Raceway but since you have to ride the double and pole to get over there we weren't too upset. MS was a tad icy at the top... OK it was a tad icy all the way down but it wasn't unedgeable. Since it was so cold and early the normal mound of mashed potatoes at the bottom were at a minimum too which was a pleasant surprise. We played around on that side of the mountain for a while and even skied Burma which I kinda wish wasn't a slow trail. It's twisty and fun but the heaps of downed newbies and the patrollers whistling till their lips are blue wreck it. Oh well. Overall the crowds in the morning were moderate. I think we were actually one of the 1st to ride the MS double because the liftie literally had to run out of the hut to hook us up. As for the other lifts... because people are stupid Bob and I rode the 6 a bunch of times alone which I like but with a growing line it seemed like a waste. Note to Blue... please put a wrangler out . The quad had no line the entire time but I think that was because Razors and Paradise weren't open. Around 9 we ducked in the lower lodge to thaw out. Before we went in Bob hit Challenge for a wife free, fast run. He said it was a icy/ hard but not dangerous. When we got back out Paradise was open so we hit it and got to see the snow cat in action. I've actually never been on a trail when they were grooming but it was nice to be the 1st person to ski fresh corduroy. Besides the tiny groomed patch Paradise was a mushy mess hence my earlier comment about the groomers. Around 10:30 I was spent so I sent the hubby for a final Challenge and Razors run before we bailed. He said Challenge stayed the same but that Razors was death cookie heaven which is a little disappointing. considering that they were grooming it when we got there. I think my favorite run of the day was Lazy to Falls. We finally bailed around 10:30. The lift lines were full but not ridiculous. I think if there had been a wrangler there wouldn't really have been a lift line the entire time we were there. Despite that the trails did feel a bit crowded and the lower lodge was ridiculous. I think the new trail and hopefully an open Switchback will alleviate that crowded feeling next season. Too many lift and too few trails is never a good thing. Overall we had really a good day... cold and a bit icy but good. Thanks Blue. P.S. I forgot to say that we got a good dusting of natural snow this morning. I was reading Doug's JH TR and feeling a little jealous so I had to add that fact. Nah, nah, nah Doug... you missed a "powder" day at Blue. Ha!

Probably two cause the drive tends to take it out of Bob. If we get up there early enough though we might hit the slopes Tuesday. Actually, I think our package included tickets for 3 days so if we don't use the 3rd day I'll post it up here.

Just booked our Okemo trip and I am sooooooo excited. YAY!!!!! We are staying at the Jackson Gore Inn which looks close and very nice. I can't wait. Suggestions, tips, etc. are appreciated.

Since I went and people might be curious how it was here's my TR for 12/06. Enjoy... or not. Got there a little later than planned due to a member of our party oversleeping. Oh well. The four of us joined the 10 AM session at about 9:45. There were 4 single lanes and 4 family lanes open contrary to what CB's website said. The other lanes that weren't open even though they were advertised as open looked good so I'm not sure why they weren't using them. I guess I should have expected unannounced closures though. Typical CB... typical. Anyway, the lanes were semi fast until about 11 when the sun came out and made slush out of just about everything. The lines were moderate and the magic carpet handled the small crowd pretty well. Some foreigners caused it to stop once or twice which made me feel right at home since that's who usually stops the ski lift too. I didn't realize that there was a mini lodge and fire pit. Both were kind of a nice touch. I could see going here during the weekend and at night with a group and having a really good (and possibly drunken) time. I guess that's it. The end.

I was just reading an article on the science behind "girl" skis and it made me realize that I really love mine. I am not, by any means, an expert but my skis feel sooo good compared to almost all of the other brands and models that I tried. Do any of you girls on here ski a "girl" ski? Why? Why not?
-
Baahhaaa. I used to hate wearing goggles. I don't really see well as it is and to have something obstructing my vision really bugged me. Now though I am used to wearing them and can't imagine skiing without them. They really do protect the eyes from wind, twin tip roost, cold, etc.

Pale winter legs and mandals... what a lovely thought.

Of course Douglas you are correct as usual. See... if you were a mod you could just fix that for me.

The giant one. Haha. Great TR. Thanks. I agree that the warm weather is going to wreck BC's conditions but when the weather is cooperating I feel that BC is a much better mountain for beginners and people who need a few trips to get them back into ski shape (like me). The steep runs (I know... steep... haha) are especially good when you are just getting back on the snow because they are way shorter than those at Blue and the snow is much more consistent.

We got to BC at 8:15 AM and right away noticed that the parking lot was packed and quite crazy. To BC's credit though there were a ton of lot attendants directing people which really did help. Anyway we booted up, got our lift tickets (4 hour of course) and hit the mountain via the main quad. We were very surprised how few people were out given how many people were in the parking lot but we weren't complaining. Once at the top we noticed that Cascade was still closed but since we don't really ski the park it was fine by us. The snow was really, really, great in the morning and stayed phenomenal throughout the day. BC really does groom well when they have the snow to push around. Speaking of snow to push around... the piles everyone was talking about in other posts were there but pretty damn small. I think the warm up coming is going to really hurt BC but what can you do. Anyway, our first 5 runs were on perfect, untouched corduroy which was nice and although the snow softened up a bit as the day progressed it not mushy and pretty damn good. There was also no ice to speak of (that I could see) nor were there muddy or bare spots. Pretty much all of the trails had full coverage though some were a little less wide than they normally are. Even the infamous "uphill" and flat sections of some of the connecting trails were better this year which was nice. Also, the big drops at the lift lines (from last year) were gone. Yay BC for listening!! We were a little bummed to find that Timberline was closed (the whole time we were there) for a race, but it didn't ruin our day. Our favorite run was Grizzly down to the quad that used to be the "F" chair. My only complaint is that by like 11 we were kinda bored but BC can't do about that. We ended up doing our final run and bolting around 11:15 AM. When we left the lift lines still were tiny, which was pretty much they way they were all day but they were parking people in the outer dirt lots. Where all those people were I'll never know but it didn't seem like they were on the mountain so whatever. Overall it was the perfect way to start the season and I'm really glad we went.

I'm intermediate (on a good day) so Okemo sounds like it's going to be great for me. We did Killington last year and I hung on all the Blues and a Black or two but I can't say it wasn't work a good bit of the time. I have some trouble with varying conditions which would be easy to work on if I skied more. Oh well. It was a good time though!

It's a coat check for skis and boards.

Uhhhhh... not quite 20 minutes. I wish it was but nope. Which can't happen on that drive unfortunatley. Oh... and you call Bob a fair weather skier. OK, not the same thing but it was fun to pick on you for a change.
