Solar power is a good option to reduce energy costs, but the potential is in solar thermal, rather than photovoltaic power. Thermal power is more efficient than solar cells so there is less of a loss. If BC were to use solar water heaters for heat or hot water for the hotel there is potential to save electricity or energy that could be used for other purposes. I also wanted to say that the involvement of Bear Creek's management on the message board and there responsiveness to their customers in general is really great. It would be nice to see other mountains with such commitment to they customers.

Mt. Aire is probably not the best place to hike, as they're building a casino on the site. You can see most of the ski hill from Woodland Road off of 611.

They changed the template for the website, but there are still a bunch of things that don't work. And they didn't take the time to make all of the new features work properly. I'm not a fan of the new site. It's too cluttered and the content isn't obvious. Their new scrolling ads are particularly annoying, especially since they would all fit with out scrolling.

Theres a warm breeze outside.

Thats the idea. King Tut and Birches should make it, Honeymoon Lane is up in the air though.
-
Well this is not good. They only had King Tut and Birches into Meadows and Laural Glade open today, which is what I would have expected because the bottom of Honeymoon Lane was not holding up good at all. According to the website they will open again with 9 trials (4 really) on Saturday. There is very little chance of them blowing snow tonight so my only guess is that they will use tonight to push snow around to cover the bare spots. This winter just keeps getting better.

Still Closed. From there website it doesn't look good until possibly the week of the 15th, although I haven't been following them closely.

Ignoring the fact that proprietary connectors are evil, if you can't find an adapter I don't see why you couldn't hack the wired headset. I would look for a how to online, if you can't find one for specifically for your needs I'm sure you could find a generic one on how to make custom adapters and modify it for your needs. If you need any help feel free to ask.

If there was three feet of base, or even a foot, I would be just as mad at them for not opening, but they have literally inches over large sections of the few trails they have open. I can't imagine that the rain did not do some serious damage to the already thin base, and grooming and ski traffic would do nothing but compound the damage. Now I can't say for sure what the conditions were like this morning to pass judgement, but I sure you can't either, so think a little before you start blindly criticizing them. If the conditions were fine and they closed anyway, then shame on them; unfortunately that probably isn't the case.

I was there this morning too. It was much better that the past couple times I was there, but I left at 10 because I didn't feel like dealing with the crowded slopes. I got close to first tracks on Upper Cleo when they opened it, unfortunately it was after they let us through at the top only to have patrolers by Big Pocono telling everyone that the groomers were still working. Now I'm looking froward to the next two weeks when I can ride all morning during the week without having to deal with the crowded trails (some more terrain would be nice too). It looked like they were trying to open John Bailey and have been blowing on Marjie's, but they haven't been blowing on any connecting trails to Marjie's.

Sort of. The compressed air is warmer that the out side air, but there is a cooling effect that occurs as the compressed air expands back to normal atmospheric pressure. Also in fan guns you are creating a small amount of nucleating spray much the same as an air/water gun and then introducing a fine mist which freezes onto the snow already in the air. When the air temperature is lower you can add more water (and hence more output) that will freeze into snow before hitting the ground than when it is warm out. But the result is the same.

Why are we posting in a year old thread? Anyway, exactly a year ago I was pissed because I couldn't ski, but today I was walking around in short sleeves.

Nice edit, I actually thought the music flowed really well with the footage.

What does the asterisk mean? I'm guessing it has some thing to do with the fact that February only has 28 days.

If your getting sheet stock look into HDPE or UHMW. Both are much more suitable for top sheet and from some quick research I did it looks like HPDE sheet is actually cheaper than PVC sheet.

I get a permission error when I try to view the picture.

Nice trip report. I was also riding this weekend so I'll tack mine in this thread. We left State College at around 4ish and arrived in Vermont at around 1-2 in the morning. We stayed up until 4ish because we already knew that the mountain was closed. On Saturday we got up around 2 and went and hiked the bunny slope for about an hour. It couldn't have been more that 150' vert. but it was snow. I had a great time; it just felt great to ride. It was quite the sight to see about 50 people hiking the only patch of snow in the area. The best part was that the employees were really cool about it and were actually excited to see that so many people willing to hike for just a small patch of snow. The next morning we got up after a pretty hard night, but managed to get out there by 9 or 10. The terrain was limited and conditions were iffy, but I was riding and that's all that mattered. They had the guns going in a lot of trails and there was a lot of thin cover, but there were some sections that were excellent. I did a lot of bump runs and some cruising, as well as trying not to hit the people down hill. I didn't get in as may runs as I would have liked, but I had a good time. The only good thing about not riding Saturday is that I got a voucher for the lift ticket, so I will be making another trip up this season when they have more terrain open.

I'll be out there riding that weekend. I'm just watching the rail jam.

It seems like at my school the kids who drop out of engineering end up in business.

According to Camelback's website they made snow on 6 trails last night. It doesn't look like much but at least a start. There are two pictures on the Daily Pics and, I'm going to head up there later and get some more pictures.

Thats awesome, I've always wanted to get into that, but never had the money or support. It's great that your school has a robotics club, I wish there was some thing like that available like that when I was in high school. Do you have any pictures of the bot your competing with, or have with in the past? Harrisburg isn't far from my school, so I might have to try to get there to watch. Also is the competition you're going to in Alabama the FIRST competition?

Those pictures are so nice. I want to ride so bad right now.

The fact that the article is inaccurate only compounds the fact that it is poorly written and under researched. "Because the article was not "spot on" with terminology (that only a die-hard could understand), it deserves to be trashed." No, because the article makes up or misuses terms that could be easily explained otherwise to a non-skier, it deserves to be trashed.
