  1. Actually, it's not bad. I've spent time in the parks trying to do the right thing and I know some of the kids appreciated the effort. Heck, I enjoy watching them do their thing and am kind of envious of their athletic ability. Wish I could do stuff like that. I'm kind of lucky in as much I'm normally not there on weekends when it can be a real zoo. PAX
  2. So having listened to all of this Rob, are you sure that's what you want to do??? It can be a pretty rough crowd here, even if you do what's right. Unfortunetly, you'll be guilty by association. PAX
  3. I stand corrected. Actually, during the 80's, I spent most of my time skiing Elk and really didn't get back into the CB thing until 1990 when I purchased a cabin near CB.
  4. I may be wrong but I don't think they really started selling lift tickets until shortly before 8AM. I used to hit the Stevenson lift about 7AM and started skiing about 7:15. Usually no one there until about 9:30 except for two turn and some of the other regulars. Wide open slopes and pretty much first tracks except for ski partols'. By 10:30, it was the usual weekend zoo. Don't worry about that much anymore. Papasteeze may know what I mean. PAX
  5. The early opening for season pass holders is not a new concept at CB. Going back to the mid 90's, season pass holders used to be able to ski at about 7:30 AM or whenever the ski patrol opened the lifts. Park right there at the Glen lodge, you had the entire east side of the mountain to yourself. It was great on weekends, you could get a lot of runs in before the masses arrived around 10AM. No idea why they did away with it in the first place. PAX
  6. That may be true that here on the east coast they use fences, lolly pops and all kinds of closed signs. BUT, it's absolutely amazing how many people say " I didn't know this trail was closed" or " I didn't see a closed sign".
  7. COOOOOOOL!!!!!!
  8. That's when you get a ranger and let him/her handle the parent even though sometimes it's hopeless. They think because they purchase a ticket, they can go anywhere regardless of their ability.
  9. Get well quick RacerChick. Just don't try to do more than your PT wants you to do. If you get a little depressed after awhile, do what I did in the same situation. Buy new skis, boots and poles! It's fun trying on boots with the new brace. They kinda look at you funny when they realize you just had surgery for a skiing accident. SMILE
  10. Long, long time ago, Camelback stayed open into early April a few times. They tried to make it a destination for spring breakers instead of heading to Fla. Yeah, like that was gonna happen. Unreliable snow conditions back then doomed that idea, however, it did result in the famous bikini photo shoot. Check out the book "The ups and downs of a Banana Belt Ski Area" for that bit of info. PAX
  11. The pain of kissing a tree would be nothing compared to that 18 hr drive home with your tail between your legs and your ego shattered. That's why I bailed. I may be older, but not stupid. Luckily, I got tied up and couldn't make the run even though the dude kept saying lets go. There's always next year!!
  12. I know how CB can save lots of money and still guarantee great snow conditions. Just fly me up for about three weeks to ski in the rain and then fly me back south. It certainly worked that way this year. It's been snowing with great conditions ever since I left.
  13. Go for the Lasik. No problems with your glasses fogging up and you can look up into the snow and rain.
  14. Way to go "Dude". And to thiink I was crazy enough to challenge you to a race when I was up at CB a couple of weeks ago. Glad that didn't happen.
  15. Hiking trails, I've been on them. They're even pretty hairy for a mountain bike. I guess you could ski them if you had a death wish.
  16. What does one have to do with the other???
  17. Ahh, someone about my age on the board. The wife and I honeymooned at CB in 1969. Couldn't have been that bad, we're still together although she did get hurt there in 96 and hasn't skied since.
  18. I skied from 8am til about 3pm. They were pretty good then, especially by Thursdays conditions. PAX Two weeks to go to get it all out of my system for another winter.
  19. Possibility of rain/frozen precip( AKA ice) early next week.
  20. After Thursday's freeze up Friday's conditions were great!! Hell of a way to get my skiing legs back, Wed, slush and trail ponds, Thursday boiler plate and great on Friday.
  21. That trail is a hiking trail, not very wide with heavy underbrush on the sides. I think Sam's Way is wider than those trails.
  22. Back when I first purchased my cabin by CB, my bonehead son-in-law went up with some friends for a weekend of skiing. Besides drinking every drop of liquor I had in the place, one of them boosted my season pass out of the cabin and got busted. Since CB management wouldn't sell me a replacement for the remainder of the season, the bonehead ended up paying for a daily pass for the rest of the season for me and I made a point to go at least three times a week, two times on the weekend. It got very expensive but at least CB didn't have them arrested. They were lucky. I never let my season pass out of my possession after that.
  23. You'd be surprised how many people (day trippers) buy one ticket and rotate it between others in their group. Sounds like theft of services if you ask me.
