  1. Stopped at Rek-Lis a few years ago on the way back from Bretton Woods on a weekday. The brewery at that time was a small shed in their back yard. One of my friends called to see if they were open and the owner said, "If you stop by I'll open." Their new place is cool and their beer is good. The Woodstock Inn has a nice smaller bar down a short hallway off to the side near the middle of the building. You can usually get a seat there when the place is crowded.
  2. I asked yesterday and the lady ( I think Victoria?) answered it would start at 3:00. There was no one even working on it last night. Skiing was pretty decent but mostly stuck to the Little Gap side due to the lines at the quad.
  3. Since "Coming Soon" has not been coming soon for literally years now, I would bet they don't want to spend any money keeping spare parts for the lifts on the shelf . I'm thinking the grooming sucks because they don't want to pay any extra for training when they buy a new groomer.
  4. Heading to the ADK this weekend. Otherwise I would be there.
  5. The grooming at Blue has been the worst in PA for years. They never let the snowmaking whales drain before pushing them out. That's what creates all of the cookies.
  6. I agree with Powder. It's different than the other places and has a cool vibe.
  7. If you get there early like you said you might even get a "private lesson" in the group lesson. The typical first timer doesn't show up until later and it takes time for the rentals, etc. so you may be the only one in the lesson. Blue has a learning area at the bottom of the mountain that is completely separate from the rest of the mountain with a chair lift and a magic carpet. I don't think the lines ever really get long there so you should be good. The run is relatively long for a beginner slope so that is good too.
  8. Hey rummy, They don't have any new trails listed as open today. Do you think that they'll be opening a few more for the weekend? If so, which ones? I'm thinking of going Sunday morning.
  9. I used to ski Montage on a Saturday or Sunday morning when they had the $30 half day ticket. They did away with it last year. They lost my and a lot of other peoples business when they did away with that. I'd see a lot of people with the half day tickets in the morning that, like me, aren't going to pay for a full day ticket there.
  10. Blue Mountain Firing Up Snow Guns on Friday Night
  11. Maybe you should also have the sign in Spanish?
  12. I think you'll like Bretton Woods. They have a T-bar that takes you up to a whole section of glades. Most of the other trails are blue cruisers. Cannon being in Franconia Notch can be very windy and icy while BW has little or no wind. Never been to Waterville Valley but have friends with passes there and from what they say I think you'll like the vibe.
  13. The bigger impact to Blue or Camelback would be if one or the other went Ikon or Epic. That would hurt the one that wasn't on a multi area pass. Vail could actually drive more people away from JFBB because they raise day passes to exorbitant rates to push people onto their multi area season passes. I usually ski JF once or twice a year on some kind of deal. (Pocono Card or WNEP Card). I don't expect them to be on either this year if the deal goes through in the fall.
  14. Also in NE PA is the Starucca Viaduct. Not as large as the Nicholson Viaduct but made from stone and older. Starucca Viaduct
  15. Just curious; Do you do any actual cutting at you place other than engraving names and dates? Is all of the carving work done in China?
  16. It doesn't take much rain to fill the barrel especially considering your shed roof is not that big. How to you plan to fill the next one if it won't be roof fed?
  17. Not sure what you're using it for but if you want to stop algea from growing just throw a cup of bleach in once in a while. (Don't do this for watering plants!) My rain barrel has a diverter hose from a rain spout. It would be pretty hard for a mosquito to find it's way to the barrel and if it did it has a screen I made from window screen material at the end of the hose. I have plastic wrapped around the hose at the inlet of the barrel to keep bugs and dirt out. For anyone interested in making a rain barrel I got one of these for about $18.00 for the diverter including the hose. It works great and when the barrel is full the water just runs down the downspout. Rain Barrel Diverter
  18. My barrel is actually blue. I painted it white to match the garage siding. The water that comes out of it is crystal clear. The hose from the gutter diverter to the barrel gets some green around the top just inside the barrel that I noticed when I empty it in the fall. I wouldn't drink it but it's fine for watering the plants.
  19. You'll be surprised how fast it will fill up just from half of your shed roof. You may get to see it tonight if the thunder storms they're calling for happen.
  20. With 55 gallons of water plus the barrel, spigot, etc. the whole thing weighs just about 500 pounds. You won't need the shelf brackets to hold it on the stand but some cross braces might not be a bad idea.
  21. Your rain barrel looks almost the same as the one that I built a few years ago. It collects rain off of half of my detached two car garage. I've never run out of water even before the past two years of monsoon rains. My garden is 100+ ft. from my hose bib and my garden is in front of my garage so it helps not having to drag the hose out or carry watering cans back and forth. I use it to fill watering cans. I need a new hose so I might cut the old one shorter and use that to water the garden. (The tree in from of it has now been cut down. Too close to the garage foundation.)
  22. Probably looking for a nesting site to lay eggs. They like to lay their eggs in mulch. If you neighbor has a mulched flower bed she might want to look for little turtles in the future.
  23. That's a great system but you do not have a "salt water" pool. The salt is used to make chlorine through an electrolysis process. People also use salt in water softeners and they do not get salt water out of their taps. I think the pool industry uses the term "salt water pool" as a marketing tool so people think they getting something special and it's just like being at the beach. It's a great system instead of pouring chlorine directly into your pool or through tablets. But that term drives me crazy for some reason. It's like when people call wet snowman making snow "powder".
  24. That list is BS. They have Utah listed as #49 for Natural Environment. Really??? The state with varied beautiful environments from mountains to desert. Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, and the Wasatch Mountains. Just look at the photos Barb posted lately. Florida doesn't have anything close to that other than that swamp called the Everglades. People go to FL to die. Maybe GSS should open a satellite gravestone location there.
  25. If you weren't banned from AZ you would know.
