  1. Whiteface can be really good but most times I've been there it's lived up to it's moniker, "Iceface" in one way or another. I like Gore better than Whiteface. Gore when it is 100% has a lot of diversity and pods to get away from the crowds and out of the wind if it's windy. It also has more trees if you're into that.
  2. Nice report. You hit it right. I was planning to be there on Friday and Gore on Saturday but -10F high plus high winds (-45 wind chill) made our group decide to postpone that trip.
  3. If it does go farther inland it will be windy and the dry snow will blow off the slopes into the woods. I wouldn't look for an epic powder day.
  4. You can buy discount tickets at some of the township recreation departments. Discounts are not as good as they used to be but it saves a few bucks. The attached list is from Perkasie but other towns sell them as well. Perkasie Borough ski-ticket-prices.pdf
  5. Bear Creek is open. I went a few years ago. There were a lot of non Christians staying at the hotel over the holiday and everything was open.
  6. After I ordered mine I got an email saying that some cards went out with Montage on them but that is is NOT included and will not be honored at Montage. I think Montage is making a mistake. It would get them exposure and most people would buy food or a beer when there.
  7. I'm kind of surprised by the results of that survey since most teenagers are always looking at their phones. I always take a real book with me when I get on a plane but it seems most of the others are reading kindles. Last book I read is "Beneath a Scarlet Sky" https://www.amazon.com/Beneath-Scarlet-Sky-Mark-Sullivan-ebook/product-reviews/B01L1CEZ6K It's based on a true story and there is some skiing involved and even a train. Highly recommend it.
  8. What kind of swag will you be giving out at the show? Most of the shows around here don't have much in the way of lift tickets of even B1G1's Morristown, NJ has the best swag within driving distance of SE PA.
  9. I bet they can make even bigger cookies with that thing!
  10. I bought one. Mainly because Whiteface is included (used to be Gore). Whiteface tickets alone are $94 walkup. I'll likely use it at Jack Frost, Shawnee, and Big Bear as well. Less than $25/ticket. They used to include two JF/BB tickets that you could use at either. Now I think it is only one ticket you can use at either.
  11. They may be still be available through the ski clubs.
  12. I would have thought they would have been more likely to spell "Belleayre" wrong.
  13. Blue has a great snowmaking system. It's a shame that their grooming sucks.
  14. Read the link I attached. It outlines the master plan. They plan to do the same as they did for Laurel Mountain and find an operator to lease the ski operations. The same company that runs Seven Springs runs Laurel Mountain. I've always wanted to ski Denton. Looks like a cool place in a remote area. Problem is I can be in VT in the time it takes to get to Denton.
  15. They also own Denton Hill http://dcnr.state.pa.us/cs/groups/public/documents/document/dcnr_20033012.pdf
  16. Thanks for correcting the info and keeping the rumors quelled, KC. It appears that latest management team is doing a good job and the mountain is on a sustainable plan for the future.
  17. That gondola and it's placement is the biggest waste of money I ever saw at a ski area. I guess that's what happens when it's state run. A privately owned mountain would spend that money much more wisely. I wonder what state official is getting a kickback on that gondola installation? Someone has to be because it makes no sense at all as far as improving the ski experience.
  18. Knock, knock, knock......Open up! IRS here.
  19. You skied Loveland???? I guess no one told you they don't have any high speed lifts?
  20. Your a day late. Heading to Gore tomorrow. Leaving early this afternoon. I have a B1G1 but several in my group do not. Like skiing in VT without the crowds.
  21. Here's a map of the railroads in Catasaqua. The LNE line is where the tunnel in your photo is.
  22. The train in the photo is a Lehigh Valley train and is heading south. The CNJ ran on the other side of the river. I believe the house in the photo is the Lehigh Gap Nature Center building now. The road on the other side of the river is 248.
  23. The line through Danielsville was the Lehigh and New England RR not the Lehigh Valley RR. The bridge in the background of your photo is the Lehigh and New England RR crossing the Lehigh River to where the Lehigh Gap Nature is now. You can still see the bridge abutments there. Some of the trails in the nature center are the old right of way.
  24. Thinking of heading up after work today. Anybody skiing today please post a report on conditions. I don't mind skiing on "wet" snow but if the mashed potatoes are too bad I might pass on skiing today.
  25. I always used a soft bag and never had a problem.
